<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> THE MISSING LINK O'Neal can't say enough about his new boss, Heat president Pat Riley, and the team Riley has put together. ''I had a conversation with Pat and I'm looking at the team, looking at what [Dwyane] Wade did last year,'' O'Neal said. ``All they needed was one piece. I'm that piece. I need them, and they need me. ``Pat is smart. He knows what he's doing. He has given me a lot of shooters, a lot of role players and a lot of hard workers. I've got like three or four 6-9 big guys that aren't even looking for plays being called. They're rebounding, Malik Allen can hit that wide-open jumper. We've got me, we've got Eddie [Jones]. We're straight. ``It's not something I'm going to talk about all year because I don't like to count my chickens before they hatch, but I was looking on paper the other day and I like it. 'I've been getting passes from dudes that I haven't seen in a while. I actually have to get used to them. Like [Thursday], I was standing in the paint and Damon Jones is coming down the middle of the lane. I'm used to guys not even dropping it off, but he threw it by the rim and I said, `Oh,' and went up and got it. I'm going to get easy buckets like that.''</div><div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> IMPRESSED BY WADE O'Neal's next diatribe is dedicated to Wade. The 7-1 center has played with Penny Hardaway in his prime and reached an NBA Finals with the Magic. He played with Bryant and won three NBA titles. And somehow, O'Neal can make Wade sound even better. ''He's a good dude, and I can tell his game was brought up the right way,'' O'Neal said. 'A lot of kids nowadays do the And 1 [stuff] and it's all about that; `I want to put the ball between my legs and I'm going to score.' John Wooden told me a great player is someone that can make other people around him better. We've just been messing around playing [on the AmericanAirlines Arena practice court], and he has been hitting me with passes I ain't seen in eight years. And I'm hitting him with stuff he hasn't seen from a big man. So he already likes playing with me, and I already like playing with him. ``All he needs is a dude like me to let him know he's got it and let him know I've got his back, and you're going to see things you've never seen from him. I'm going to pull it out of him. I know how to do it because I've done it before. 'Now, the mistakes that I made with my other two sons, Penny and Kobe, I won't make with D-Wade. The first day I got here I had a conversation with D-Wade. I said, `Listen, what happened between me and [Bryant] out there [in Los Angeles] can never happen between me and you. We can't let them break us up and we can't break each other up.' ''</div><div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> ESCAPE FROM L.A. Which brings O'Neal to a much less pleasant topic. Irreconcilable differences between he and the Lakers led to a messy divorce, one that included public barbs between he and his former team's general manager, Mitch Kupchak, and some especially choice words for old running mate Bryant. The past two years weren't the best of times for O'Neal -- and he'll tell you about it. 'The year I missed 12 games [2002], they had a doctor that couldn't do my surgery because he didn't have enough insurance. There were two types of surgery: You could cut that bone off and do it that way, and I would have been out the whole year. They didn't want to do that. `I don't want to be the doctor that cuts Shaq's toe off and he might not come back and play. I don't have the insurance for it.' So I had to go find my own doctor. And the Lakers knew it. They said, 'He did it to miss training camp.' If I don't want to go to training camp, I just won't go to training camp. I don't do that selfish [stuff]. 'I went to UCLA, got a doctor, and he said, `You know what, the doctor you're talking to is crazy. We're not going to take your bone off. We're just going to shave the bone.' I told Mitch, I said, 'I'm going to sit out 10 or 12 games.' He said, 'We love you. Take your time, man. Don't even worry about it.' So I sat out and they go 2-12, now they're looking at me [questionably]. So then I had to come back. I came back empty. I admit it. But they told me not to do anything. So then when they go 2-12 it's my fault.'' </div><div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> WHISPERS ABOUND The Lakers' 2002-03 season ended in the second round of the playoffs. Whispers soon followed that O'Neal was overweight (360 pounds) and deteriorating. The Lakers seemed poised for another NBA title this past season but were shocked by the Pistons. And finally, the team's dismantling began with the exit of coach Phil Jackson. ``People ask me now, why are you down to 335? Because that's what Pat wanted me to be. You don't want me lifting, I won't lift. I'll do more of that cardio. I'm going to try to get back down to 325, 320 by the first game. 'When I was in L.A., they wanted me to keep lifting big. How can I be out of shape and averaging better than Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett, the [guys] you're giving the MVPs to? It doesn't make sense. That's the stuff [the Lakers] threw out there so when it comes time to do what they have to do, they say, `You went from [averaging] 27 to 21. You're getting old. We don't want to pay you this, we're going to pay you this.' But I'm smart. ``I told my wife the other day, I'm the Halle Berry of the NBA. Everybody wants this, baby. Everybody wants me. You're firing Phil without telling me. You're doing this and doing that. I'll tell you what, you can have this. I've been the scapegoat for too long. 'Phil took us to the Finals three out of the five years and you want to fire him and want to bring in Mike Krzyzewski? Come on, man. That's like being married to J-Lo, then dropping J-Lo for a girl that's 5-10, 480 [pounds]. They asked me when I was out there, `Why do you want to be traded?' Then a father can take his son in the arena and the son says, 'Daddy, who's No. 32 O'Neal?' And the father will say, 'He was bad!' That's what I want. 'Where I got that from is my father took me to see Dr. J one time when I was little because we lived in Jersey, so we would go over to Madison Square Garden, get the $5 ticket and sneak down until we get as low as we can. And I would say, `Dad, Dr. J is a bad cat.' That's what I want to play for. ``Everybody says I'm getting older. Of course, everybody gets older. So what? That doesn't mean [anything]. He would have dunked that.' When I can't be me anymore, Shaq's running for sheriff. Vote for him.'' Maybe public office is in his future. Based on this short time sitting by the pool, O'Neal has already proved to be an accomplished orator. For now, though, he's done talking. It's almost time to back it up. ''You guys already had a sweet team,'' O'Neal said. ``But you add a dog like me to the sweet team, it makes it sweeter. Once we get to know each other we're going to be the sweetest team. ``That's what we're going to do -- we're going to go to work.'' </div><div align="center">Source</div>
I can't wait for this season... I believe what Shaq says... This season will be truly amazing. P.S Here comes the bashing by realdeal and all the other Lakers fans. Wait wait, I'll say some stuff he will say about Shaq. "Just wait until they lose, then Shaq will point fingers" or "Shaq is lying about the things in L.A, he wasn't all muscle, he was pure fat" just some tidbits, I know exactly what the criticizers are gonna say... P.S.S Honestly though, I can't wait for this season. Seeing Wade and Shaq working together, inside out. Damon Jones will also feed the post magically. This is gonna be a sick year.
This season will be truly magical for the Heat. I can't wait to see Shaq, Wade and Jones working together on the court. When does the season start anyway? lIKE mR.wADE SAID all the LA fans will come into this board critisizing shaq and the Heat. The first game the Heat lose all the laker fans will say shaq's a big baby and all but when the playoffs come around wel'' see who goes farther.
You guys do realize that if Shaq would just keep his mouth shut, I wouldn't even be posting anything about him. Kobe hasn't said a word about Shaq since the quote about Shaq paying off his women, which was last summer (and the little things Shaq and Kobe were saying to the media during the season). Since the end of the season, it has been all Shaq...and I don't know how many times I've got to say this, but I really did like Wade, Jones and Wright. Last year, I wanted the Heat to go to the Finals. In fact, the only thing that angers me about all of this...is that no matter how much you guys would've given up for Shaq, you still would be saying that the Heat are championship-material, which is not true. Shaq, Malone, George, Kobe and Payton didn't accomplish what they wanted to last year...so how in the world will Shaq, Haslem, Jones, Wade, and Damon Jones? Plus, Wade is good...I won't doubt that. But there's no way he'll be as good as Kobe. To say that is <u>ridiculous</u>. In turn, I'll even sit here and admit that Shaq (Heat) will be better than Shaq (Lakers)...but not better than the Shaq that played in 2000 and 2001. Another thing...I won't even doubt that the Heat will be champs in the East, but it won't happen in a year's time. A team just doesn't send off three of their top players and get one in return, and automatically become champs. Shaq and Kobe didn't do it...it took 4 years for them to finally find their chemistry...same with Jordan and Pippen. I don't care how much Shaq likes Wade, or vice versa...they won't click at the beginning. With all of that said, sure...I expect the Heat fans to really believe that they have a shot at the title, but I wouldn't place a guarantee on it. I've already stated that the Lakers may not go far into the playoffs...and I've even stated negative things about my team (such as the PG position, SF/PF confusion, etc.). You can't say there's nothing negative about the team, yet I have not seen anyone post any negatives about the Heat but me. I seriously wouldn't mind Shaq being on the Heat...I am really happy that he's gone...and I wouldn't be posting anything about it, but the man just won't shut up about Kobe. There have always been negatives and positives about Shaq...the man can score when he wants, just 5 feet or less from the hoop. He can dominate any player his size...but has trouble with guards driving the lane. He can lose weight when he is determined, but still has trouble shying away from injuries. He can get along with any player he wants to, but will obviously take back any good comments he made once they get on his bad side. Positives...negatives. Every team has them, every player has them. I don't really post negatives about the Heat, but I'll be quick to post them about Shaq because he is making himself more vulnerable to them by keeping his lips running about Kobe, Kupchak, how bad it was to trade him, etc. When a man makes himself out to be the greatest person that's every stepped out onto the court (in other words, an automatic championship contender), then it's time for him to hit rock bottom and come back to Earth. If you guys can't admit that, then I don't see how you'll be able to take ONE loss this season.

It's not ridiculous for Wade becmoing better than Kobe... it's possible, considering Kobe is vastly overrated. Besides, telling Shaq to shut his mouth is like telling Kobe to pass.. not gonna happen, and it will take away who they are.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Mr.Wade:</div><div class="quote_post"> It's not ridiculous for Wade becmoing better than Kobe... it's possible, <font color="Red">considering Kobe is vastly overrated</font>.</div> Don't knock Kobe's game until he's had his chance to prove that he can be the best without Shaq. You're basing your opinion on one season...Wade is a 2nd year player. I don't even compare LeBron to Jordan or Kobe...I haven't compared Shaun Livingston to Magic, etc...because they haven't done anything yet to make me come to that conclusion. LeBron had an impressive year, Wade had one...Melo had one...so does that mean that all three will be better than Kobe Bryant? That's a joke. If Howard and Gordon average over 16 PPG next season (which they may), does that mean they'll be better? If anyone is overrated, it's the guys that are said to be great right out of the draft. LeBron was overrated...they were already calling him one of the best in the game, which he was not. He may be ONE of the best later on down the road, but it'll be a while. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Mr.Wade:</div><div class="quote_post">Besides, telling Shaq to shut his mouth <font color="Red">is like telling Kobe to pass</font>.. not gonna happen, and it will take away who they are.</div> I wish all of you would get on an instant messenger so I can send you all of my Shaq/Kobe videos. I have about 50 of them...no lie...and every one of them show Kobe passing to Shaq nearly 65% of the time. Most of the Lakers' top plays come from Kobe and Shaq, and half of them from an alley oop or lob pass. The only time Kobe didn't pass to Shaq was in the Finals against the Pistons...and suddenly, everyone calls Kobe selfish. In fact, they were still calling him that, even before the series...and that's why he refused to take shots in the Kings game near the end of the season. Nearly 80% of Shaq's shots were created himself...which means the guy that passed it to him did NOT get the assist. Kobe would be racking up bigger numbers in the assist column if Shaq would have just put the shot up instead of taking 5 dribbles and 10 elbows. See? Now this is called "Shaq bashing" because people talk trash on Kobe (<font color="Red">see the lines in red</font>), once again. This thread shouldn't even be about the Lakers or Kobe, or me, but I come in here and (as usual) read another topic that has either the name "Kobe" or "Lakers" in it...or "realdeal" in the post. I wonder what will be the first topic about the Heat that DON'T mention those three things. The Lakers and Kobe must be pretty important to the Heat...if all of the threads talk about them more than they do their own players.
I dont care whats going on, I'm going to wait and watch the christmas match up. That will probably be one of the greatest nba games in history.
Mr. Wade I hear ya, I can't wait for the season to start neither I think D. Jones is gonna be rackin up assists...last season he had 5apg, 7.4apg in the playoffs (against Detroit) and this year he's got shaq and a great offensive supporting cast. I think we also have one of the best locker room presence. D Jones, Shaq, Wade, Haslem, Jones, etc...the team brings a positive, fun, energetic, winning attitude that the players haven't seen in a while. You cant be serious. Dwayne Wade wont be better than Kobe Bryant EVER. Some people compare Kobe Bryant to Michael Jordan for crying out loud. Dwyane Wade will not be compared to MJ either because hes not that great. Wow he had a great rookie season thats great oh wow hes gonna be the best ever...I dont think so. Yes Wade is a great player but his career wont turn out like Kobes. He wont average over 25 ppg nor will he win 3 rings because hes really not capable of doing that. I dont care what any of you Heat fans say Dwyane Wade will never be close to Kobe Bryant. As a matter of fact....he wont even be better than Lebron. Right now...the only 2nd year player that has A Chance at being better than Kobe is Lebron James. Everybody else like Wade will end up like Corey Maggette. Close to being an Allstar but not close enough, stat wise, or popular enough to make it. You wait...Dwyane Wade will be a good player...but he will never be as good as Kobe Bryant.
Why you saying kobe doesn't pass? Heres a eye opener: who had the most assists to Shaq on the Lakers Team? Kobe Bryant.
Why don't we give Kobe a clean slate this year considering he's not gonna have Shaq around to draw away defenders? Let's forget about what he did in the past and give him a new start to prove himself.
I still find this very funny, that even in the threads in the Heat forum, Kobe is the main topic. Haha. Hey guys, you know what players were really good as rookies? Vince Carter. Mike Miller. Damon Stoudamire. These guys were ROY's...but they aren't even close to being Jordan. Iverson doesn't even get the comparison to Jordan, and Iverson is a great player...much better than Wade, by far. It's as simple as that. I don't care what you do your first couple years in the league (unless you pull off a 1980 Magic Johnson), you aren't even close to being the best, and shouldn't be considered to having that possibility of being the best. I figured fans learned by now, after watching Kwame Brown and Michael Olowokandi.

I think everyone should agree that both players need to lay off each other and don't even think about each other, until Christmas. Facts are...they both are on different teams now, they both never won a ring without the other, and they both have something to prove. Shaq is playing with Wade, and Kobe has Odom. Shaq's in the East, Kobe's in the West. I expect the Heat to go farther...so if the Lakers do get to the second round, they will prove their critics wrong. If the Heat get to the Eastern Conf. Dwyane Wade: 16.2 ppg, 4.00 rpg, 4.5 apg <u>IN 34.9 MPG</u> Kobe Bryant: 7.6 ppg, 1.3 rpg, 1.9 apg <u>IN 15.5 MPG</u> Double his minutes and stats would be CLOSE to Dwyane Wades. Wade would have him beat but thats because Kobe Bryant came into the league when he was 17. Give him a break man he was just a kid. Wade was in college for what 3 years. Thats like 4 years experience over Kobe and Kobe still almost would have had the exact same stats if it wasnt for the fact that he played 15.5 MPG. The next year Kobes stats raised but still played ALMOST A QUARTER LESS than Wade and still Kobe averaged 15.4 ppg, 3.10 rpg, and 2.5 apg. Add 8 minutes to that and Im sure it would have again been good stats for Kobe. Now lets think about Kobe at the same age as Wade is right now Shall we? Dwayne Wade at 22 yrs old: 16.2 ppg, 4.00 rpg, 4.5 apg Kobe Bryant at 22 yrs old: 22.5 ppg, 6.30 rpg, 4.9 apg Maybe this doesnt matter because Kobe was already in the league for awhile but still Wade could have done that. Who did Wade have on his team? He sure didnt have a 7'1 Monster on his team like u said right? Well thats exactly why Wade scored so much...because he didnt have the most dominant player in the NBA scoring over 25 ppg and voted as one of the NBAs top 50 players. Lets see how Wade does this year with him and when this season is over he wont even score over 20 ppg due to the fact that Shaq will ballhog the whole time and leave Wade out of the picture. Thats exactly what happened to Kobe sometimes. He never really got a chance to prove he could do it by himself. Like I said we'll see next year what they both accomplish and also see how "Baby Kobe" does with Shaq on his team. Ive got 2 words for Dwayne Wade.....GOOD LUCK. <u>EDIT: Sorry didnt notice what heatfan and realdeal said </u>
