Hey post how you think Tmac and Yao will do next season. Heres what I think... <u>Yao Ming</u> PPG: 20.2 RPG: 10.1 APG: 1.2 BPG: 2.1 MPG: 37.5 FG%: .525 3rd year in the NBA....I think he will improve alot just like he did last year. He will start to score more and also grab more rebounds now that he has a teammate (Tracy McGrady) that shoots ALOT every game and that will make him have to just stay in the lane alot and grab Mcgradys boards. His minutes will also go up. I was suprised when I noticed Yao only played under 33 MPG last year. I think now he will go up in minutes for sure being his 3rd year and being that the Rockets need him in the lane to rebound and score. Thats another reason why I also put his rebounding and scoring up because he will play at least 5 more minutes that he did last year. <u>Tracy McGrady</u> PPG: 26.8 RPG: 5.9 APG: 5.0 SPG: 1.49 MPG: 40.2 FG%: .422 I know some of you might be mad about me putting Tmacs points down but I dont think hes going to score as much as he did in Orlando. In Orlando he had really nobody that always wanted to score. Well now he does because Yao wants to score and wants to be the Captain of this team. Doesnt everybody? Well Tmac will be the Captain for sure but he will go down a little in points due to the fact that Yao Ming is still improving and will improve in points and many more things this year with Tmac or not. Tmac will also go down in rebounding because he wont be rebounding much...he'll leave that up to Yao in the paint...he'll just be worrying about scoring and other things like that but this year he wont worry about the rebounding as much as he had to last year. His minutes will also go up just a little because Rockets will want him playing alot being that he is a big part of that team. He may have a 42% shooting year also because he'll shoot alot more even though last year he had a 41% last year. Itll be a good year for Tmac playing with an actual Allstar quality player and hopefully he and Yao can take this team somewhere like Francis and Yao did last year. Whats your Stat predictions for the two?
I think you predicted T-Macs assists way too high, he has never been a great passer, and can be selfish at times. Yao PPG. 18.7 RPG. 9.6 APG. 2.1 BPG. 2.3 FG%. .516 T-Mac PPG. 26.1 RPG. 6.1 APG. 4.0 SPG. 1.6 FG%. .434 They both will have outstanding years, and they will flourish with eachother to feed off of.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting S.Livingston14:</div><div class="quote_post">I think you predicted T-Macs assists way too high, he has never been a great passer, and can be selfish at times.</div> No actually he averaged 5.5 apg last year on Orlando
Livingston, Tmac has consistently averaged more than 5 APG in the last 3 years in Orlando. If anything, you underestimated him. Sure he might not average another 5.5 APG, but if I were to predict his APG next year, I'd put it at around 5. If he can average 5.5 in a crappy team like Orlando I'm sure he can at least average a decent number around 5.
These predictions are predicated on Yao's conditioning being significantly improved next year. Yao: 19.6 ppg 10.4 rpg 2.7 apg 2.0 bpg 35.6 mpg .524 fg% McGrady 24.8 ppg 5.6 rpg 5.8 apg 1.5 spg 39.8 mpg .458 fg%
I disagree about Mcgrady's rebounds and assists. In the Houston defense oriented style, he will definitely grab more rebounds as A) rebounding is a bigger focus and the opposing team will miss more shots. With much more scoring options, Mcgrady will reach over 6 assists i think. He has so many more people to get involved who can score. Also, without a true starting point guard, Mcgrady will be the #1 ball handler. I think Mcgrady will have something like 24 ppg, 6.5-7 rpg, 6.0 apg 1.5 spg 40 mpg, and 45 fg% Yao i think will get 20 ppg 10 rpg 2 apg 2 bpg 35 mpg 53% fg
Yao 19.2 PPG 11.0 RPG 2.5 APG 2.2 BPG 37.2 MPG .534 FG% McGrady 25.4 PPG 5.2 RPG 5.0 APG 1.2 SPG 40.3 MPG .435 FG%
Hard to say if Yao will ever improve those stats unless he's rested a bit and if T-mac gives him more touches. It has to be communicated that Yao runs the offense and T-mac comes second to bail him out if they start double teaming him.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting drm2dnk:</div><div class="quote_post">haha oh-neal no way, tmac will get the scoring title again this year im sorry 28.9 ppg</div> You wish ....Hes actually now on a team with good players unlike last year with the next best player being Tyronn Lue
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting drm2dnk:</div><div class="quote_post">haha oh-neal no way, tmac will get the scoring title again this year im sorry 28.9 ppg</div> I won't sit here and say that it's not possible for him to get the scoring title...but I will guarantee this: if he does get the scoring title next season, the Rockets will not make it to the Western Conf. Finals.
I said it before and I'll say it again: If McGrady has the audacity to take touches away from Yao(and he'll have to average as many points as you guys are predicting) McGrady will be gone by the offseason. Same reason why Steve Francis is gone. Yao will get the touches. McGrady will not get the scoring title if he wants to stay on a winning team. That is just the way its going to be. If McGrady averages more points then Yao then Yao will have a whole lot of assists. Either way this team is Yao's not McGrady's. McGrady wont dare shoot unless Van Gundy tells him to. McGrady's days as scoring champion is over if he doesnt want to get traded. And Gundy has no problem sitting McGrady down on the bench and playing without him. Yao will have more impressive stats or have a new teammate soon.
Yao: 38-40 mpg 21 ppg 11 rpg 2 apg 2.5 blocks/game 52% FG 79% FT ================= TMac 42-44 mpg 20 ppg 6 rpg 5 apg 1.7 steals/game 43% FG 36% 3PT 82% FT

Yao 20.2 PPG 9.8 RPG 2.4 APG 1.7 BPG 35.5 MPG .521 FG% McGrady 24.4 PPG 6.6 RPG 5.2 APG 1.4 SPG 1.1 BPG 40.3 MPG .446 FG%
Here are my predictions: Yao 18.1 PPG 9.3 RPG 2.4 APG 2.1 BPG 34.7 MPG .528 FG% McGrady 24.8 PPG 6.3 RPG 4.8 APG 1.4 SPG 0.8 BPG 40.3 MPG .437 FG%
Okay I would say 20 points a piece then if Yao gets more touches. Or Yao can score even more if he starts getting fouled alot. Lucky the big fella can hit free throws or he'd missing a few points per game.

If they wanted someone who can jackup shots they would've stayed with Francis. McGrady truly has one purpose in this team: to shoot the ball. But most importantly, to shoot from the 3. It's amazing how many people think that they brought him over for his PPG. T-Mac, two seasons ago, was 45%-FG and 38%-3PT <- that's what they want him for (and the fact that he backed it up with 32ppg so it is not a fluke) BTW, Van Gundy learned from Pat Riley so expect the Rockets to do the same thing Miami is gonna do this season: Surround Shaq with Shooters (more importantly, 3PT shooters). I won't make any preds but I will guarantee Yao will get somewhere near 25ppg and the Rockets will be a force in the West. T-Mac can match or come close to Yao (as he is the second option) but he must start shooting at 50%-FG or 40%-3PT because Yao is a tougher player to guard and will see the ball more than any single player even if it is by one attempt. Don't get me wrong though, there will be times when it will be better for T-Mac to score and he might see more touches. Depending on which gives them the better chance at winning.
Yao has had history of poor stamina... he'll get fatigued real fast, and when he sits down in the third to rest for the fourth quarter, that's when I think the scoring load will fall onto McGrady. I guess TMac will get to score plenty next season, much like Kobe when Shaq commanded double team. But the O is still run through Yao.
