Now Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury wants to win. Marbury yesterday acknowledged for the first time his frustration at never coming close to winning an NBA title, or even a playoff series. "I want to win more than anybody else," Marbury said as the Knicks reported to training camp and flew to Charleston, S.C., for today's first practice. "Nobody will ever know how much I want to win. And it ain't because you've been saying I haven't won before. This about me, not about y'all." Marbury believes, at 28, he's in the right place, at the right time, in his home city, to accomplish everything he wants. "This team is capable of winning [the Atlantic]," Marbury said.</div> Link Well, don't the great ones all say this stuff?
I personally take exception when players ramble on how they want to win and what not.... dont get me wrong I love Stephon Marbury, and I think he is a top 3 pg, despite the fact that he hasnt won anything saying that he wants to doesnt really mean anything in my opinion, the only good thing about it, is that Stephon Marbury may be playing with more determination this season, but he could have the desire to win the NBA Finals this year, but on an individual stand point that doesnt mean anything, it can only mean something in my opinion if the rest of the team have this desire that he does, otherwise he is going to be dissapointed, in what he may consider another under-achievement season. Good to see him ready to win, and wanting to, but I can only give it validification if the rest of the New York Knicks share the same passion. Here are two examples of where one guy wants to win, and where one team wants to win. Detroit Pistons - Rasheed Wallace I am sure everyone knows about when he guaranteed a win, but what is notable is that the rest of his team mates shared that ideology and determination, and ultimately that same team won the NBA championship. LA Lakers - Kobe Bryant Being down three games to one, he promised that they would win, but clearly the rest of the team did not have the same frame of mind as himself, and ironically his team lost to Rasheed Wallace and the Detroit Pistons. I really hope the entire New York Knicks have this same determination shared by Stephon Marbury, because the Knicks have arguably the most depth from position one to twelve in the Eastern Conference, on their roster, and if all play as one unit, there is no doubt that they will win the Atlantic division, and have a possible shot at the Conference Finals. But is that enough.... does coming close to being a winner make you one....?
I think all of the post Layden Knicks want to win. It should be interesting to see how they perform this season
