<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Longtime Toronto Raptors assistant coach Jay Triano was dismissed as the head coach of Canada's senior men's national basketball team today, Executive Director Fred Nykamp announced. Triano, a Raptors assistant since 2001, had been the National Team's head coach since 1999. He believes the team dismissed him in part because of his inability to focus his attention full-time on Team Canada. "They thought it would be better for me to devote my full time to the Raptors, and to have a little bit more family time," Triano said. "I appreciate them looking out for me." </div> Full Story
Isn't a mutual agreement suppose to take place instead of firing him? Triano is overrated. He thinks he knows stuff about basketball when he doesn't. I was frustrated when all the Raptor coaches were fired except him prior to the 2003 season.

Leo Rautins? I don't think he has had any coaching experience before, but with Nash getting older and Magloire looking like he'll never play for us, I don't see a need for a coach anyways; we'll never make it to Beijing in 2008.

He has been one of the figures of Canada basketball for a long time. He is sort of eessential to the whole "canada's team" motif that the Raptors have got going on now. Leoo Rautins was even considered, er rather, rumoured for the RAptors cocahing job, so i don't see it as a big surprise, he certianly ahs the knowledge, dunno aobut the coaching.
