Jason Collins deserves nothing more than $2 million per year. He hasn't proved anything at all in his two seasons of starting at center, and is already 27 years old at the peak of his abilities. The only reason he's on the court at all is because the Nets have no one else better.
If Iam Rob Thorn JC doesnt get a contract till seasons end, give JC something to get motivated for this year. So he can prove his worth, right now, I dont have faith in JC for the long term. I know Centers are hard to find nowadays but investing in JC for another 4-years made hold back our rebulding process. Once we invest those years in him, we may be stuck for the entire 4 years, it may effect the type of big men we draft or chase in the free Agent market. Right now, I just dont feel comfortable that we can get better as a team down the road with JC as our starting Center. I would like to see more inside tuffness from JC on the boards this year.
He's look for something around 4 years 24 Million (6 million/Year). He has no right to ask for that kind of money unless he has a big/breakout season this year. 6 and 5 in 30 MPG with limited shot blocking skills for a center is definitly not worth 6 Million annually.
They should keep Collins. This year, he'll get even more touches and improve his game. Now that Martin is gone from the Nets, he's gonna need to get more rebounds, and he can definently do that if he can put on some weight and get stronger. Plus, if they lose him, they won't have much big men. Expect around 12-8-3-1.5-.5 from Collins this year.
I dont think hes gonna get any better than he is right now. we've seen it all from him and he doesnt deserve the big money. the nets are making yet another mistake.
Collins came out of college as a senior at the age of 22, then he played another 3 years in the NBA, which I think would make him 25 right now. Next year, when he receives the extension he wants, he'll be 26. Is a 26-year old who has mediocre skills worth a MLE?
exactly. collins has only shown to be a ok player at best and he wants a MLE? i guess he is trying to get the most of his contract now that the nets are a weaker team. he is forcing the GM to keep him or dump him. look like the nets have another problem on their hands, and so this reinforces my belief it is time for the nets to slip down

And his offensive rebounds rarely lead to put back points for himself. He going to get alot of his points shooting that little 10-15 foot jumper he takes in the mid-range, free throw area. Iam thinking something like 8 or 9ppg for JC. I hope he can pull down 8 boards a game, thats pretty solid from a starting center but this is JC, we are talking about. JC going to get more touches with K-Mart gone but he isnt the type of player who going to create opportunties for himself. He going to need guys like RJ, Kidd, Zoran etc. to create opportunties for him. When you see JC set up in the low block area or high post with his back to the basket, it usually means its a play for him to be the passer in the motion offense, not for him to make an individual move.
Those are my projected stats, if he gets stronger. With his body right now, I don't really think he can accomplish 8 bounds per game.
