...for Baron in Thursday night's preseason game against the Orlando Magic. If I'm seeing this right, Baron came close to getting a triple double with 14 points, 9 assists, and 9...blocks? Nine blocks? Holy cow, if this was a regular season game, that would have to be some kind of feat for a point guard. Or perhaps the stat line is wrong? But both Yahoo and ESPN show the same... Box Score
yea, that's exactly the first thing I noticed as well when I saw the boxscore. In the AP recap, they make no mention of the 9 blocks, which leads me to believe it's a mistake. Otherwise, how could u not mention it? A point guard getting 9 blocks in 28 minutes is unheard of.. anybody actually see the game and can shed some light?
Yeah, it's a mistake. I knew that was kinda funny and that it just couldn't be true, but I don't know why both ESPN and Yahoo show the exact some box scores. If it was true, it would have been all over Sportscenter highlights. NBA.com's box score shows Baron with 0 blocks. Box Score Anyway, to make this thread into something, it seems like J.R. Smith could make an impact sooner rather than later. With Wesley out in the preseason, Smith has been putting up some really impressive numbers. Especially on the offensive end. Depending on how Wesley's injury pans out, I wouldn't be surprised to see J.R. awarded the starting SG spot when the season begins. ?He?s forcing us to make more room for him,? says a smiling Byron Scott. ?J.R. is absorbing things quicker than you would have thought for a 19-year-old.? The Hornets believe they picked a winner in the draft. J.R. Smith = bust? Very unlikely.
Regardless, Smith has been playing with the first team with Wesley out. He's went up against the likes of Michael Finley and Allen Iverson and has contributed very well. I'm not making any definite predictions that he will blow up this season. But I am positive that he will not be a bust.
I think he might make it, but just don't think you can make a fair assessment based merely on some mickey mouse games in the pre-season.
Interesting stat-lines? Try Calvin Booth against Cleveland last season. 0 points, one rebound, 10 blocks JR can ball and he'll get his time to shine with Mash and Wesley injured, but as stated it's hard to judge a HSer on a few pre-season games. He has phenomenal hops and a nice shooting stroke, but he is still undersized and his defense needs a lot of work. Time will tell, but he's certainly an exciting propsect for Hornet fans.
I dont think he is undersized he's 6'6" and 220lbs he plays SG, and SF. I think he's got perfect size for a swingman. But I do agree with you on one thing that JR's defense needs work. JR can shoot the lights out and he has a 44" vertical, I dont care what anyone else says but Im saying JR is going to be a great player and wont be a bust.
