I think Kwame will be given one, as for Haywood, he deserve one...I think we should give him one too, I would hate to lose these two playes next year in Free Agency.
Kwame Brown should defintely be given an extension. He's made steady progress over his career, and his best days are ahead of him. The Wizards would miss him if he left, and he could break out on another team meaning the Wizards would regret not giving him an extension for seasons to come.
Kwame definately should get one. He will only get better. Why would you spend so much time on trying to develop him and then just give up on him now? They have to keep him IMO.
Kwame Brown is still young and the Wizards would be stupid to let him go. Haywood, on the other hand, doesn't deserve a big contract. He has not improved much over his time in the NBA and seems to be at the roof of his potential. Although the Wizards will be lucky to have him, they wouldn't need him if he asks for too much money.
The Wizards need Haywood, he is so underrated and is passed over all the time. He is a 7 footer, with a decent offensive game, but goes after rebounds. He catches unfair heat, and I think he is essential for the Wizards, if they give Etan a big contract, then Haywood deserves one.
Haywood is definately needed, his +- ratings are great, and when he was on the court the team was much better defensively than when he was off, that's got to say something. Haywood might have his bad hands, but he can rebound, block shots, score down low decently, and he plays pretty good defense.
They both deserve extensions, Haywood will be a serious force off the bench, and Kwame will be a very good starter. It would be a tragic loss if they don't offer extensions to either of them.
I don't watch a lot of Wizards games, so I don't see why Haywood should be so hyped up. According to nba.com, Haywood played 19 minutes per game last year, and this year, with Jamison on the team and Brown and Thomas figuring to play more minutes, I expect Haywood's minutes to go down even more. What's more is that Haywood hasn't improved much stat-wise every year he's been in the league, so I don't see a point in investing in him much further. Now that the Wizards have decided to match Thomas's big offer, it would be stupid to play Haywood more than a guy who's making the MLE.
Kwame is horrible, but I think Wizard managed management feels that he has the potential to break out like JO.

Kwame is the Sam Bowie of the 90s. The first overall pick should come in and prove that they are start calibre. The most games that he has ever started is 57, and it wasn't due to an injury plagued season, he only missed 8 games that year. I dont have the time energy or desire to list all the reasons why Kwame sucks, and frankly if they aren't obvious to you then there is a serious problem.

It took JO 6 years to break out..Tmac 4. How is Kwame supposed to show himself with 8 shots a game? please explain that to me...I could go on and on..but until you give me some reason I wont waste my time with you.
These are all the young compareble [no Nene and Chandler] PF's numbers per 35 minutes: Bosh: 12.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.82 steals, 1.56 blocks, 1.5 turnovers, 4.0 FTA, 3.0 fouls, 51.3% TS Gooden: 15.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.01 steals, 1.18 blocks, 2.1 turnovers, 4.3 FTA, 3.2 fouls, 48.4% TS Murphy: 16.1 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.98 blocks, 2.0 turnovers, 4.6 FTA, 3.3 fouls, 50.1% TS Kwame: 12.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.03 steals, 0.80 blocks, 2.2 turnovers, 5.2 FTA, 2.3 fouls, 54.7% TS Swift: 16.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 1.29 steals, 2.7 blocks, 2.0 turnovers, 6.0 FTA, 4.24 fouls, 53.0% TS Kwame is also the best or 2nd best [Swift] defender out of all of them while getting the least fouls, and has the highest true scoring percentage, and assist to turnover ratio. Now this year he's bulked up, and he's actually going to be getting the ball fed to him in the post. I guess those guys are all horrible players too 7'1, 273 lbs PF/C who is strong [duh], plays very good defense, moves like Bosh does, and has the same athleticism, and is only getting better, I'd hate to have that guy

Tmac was playing in Vince's shadow. Once JO became a starter (with Indiana), it really only took him two years to break out. Once Tmac left Toronto he immediately broke out. Kwame has no real excuse, because the Wiz are not exactly a stacked team.
Interesting that this thread is about Haywood, who was instrumental in the fight that happened in last nights game. Hughes cheap pushing foul that got tempers flared and then it was the almost now laughable actions of Haywood, throwing a punch at Davis and then running like a sissy. :thumbsdow which caused the end of the game to be delayed. Here's something to understand Mr. Haywood: If you feel the strength of conviction to throw a punch at a man the size of Davis, you better be prepared to take your licks. Otherwise, you're just a punk.

Especially when things are expexted out of you right away? Kwame was the teams scapegoat for their failures during the yeras of Jordan..everything was put on him for not developing fast enough. 2nd of all, when the coach hates you, how do you develop? When your coach has no confidence in you, there is no way you will mature as a player. Doug Collins blamed his own failures on Kwame. Last year was Kwame's first year without MJ/Collins and it was impressive, he demanded double teams multiple times throughout games, he threw up impressive streaks, career highs 3 times, including 30 and 19 against Chris Webber and the Kings. His defensive presence last year was awesome, he outplayed Jermaine O'neal ( his closest comparison ) multiple times, along with other top tier PFs. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting hagrid:</div><div class="quote_post">Interesting that this thread is about Haywood, who was instrumental in the fight that happened in last nights game. But the worst action came from a Bulls player..that player..Eddy Curry...he took a cheap shot into the general direction of Haywood's private parts...not cool, Eddy..that is a punk move :thumbsdow
That fight was crazy, I understand Haywood shouldn't have pushed Hinrich but Davis took it way too far. He did kind of embarras Haywood a little. And I used to like Eddy Curry, but now I have no respect for him. Anytime you come out of nowhere in a fight and hit somebody in the balls, you lose all of your respect. Let's give Curry the biggest suspension out of anyone of them.

First overall picks are supposed to be NBA ready. Even if they aren't they should develop quickly. As for MJ, he's hard on everyone. I've heard Magic's testimony about their dream team days, and Pip's opinions on their bull's days. MJ motivates through hardcore trash talking. If you cant take it from your teammates how are you supposed to take it from opposition? I could care less if he had a good game against Webber or JO. NOBODY GETS UP FOR KWAME BROWN. I have seen Mobley drop 24 on Kobe, that doesn't mean that he's in Kobe's league.
