http://www.nba.com/preview2004/gmsurvey_position.html I found it pretty suprising that all the GM's voted Bryant as the best SG. I know he's a great player (my favourite) but I would have expected someone else being on that list. I also find it cool that Duncan gets more votes than KG, and I find some of the rankings wierd (based on positions).
Why did they put Tmac as a SF, so that Kobe wouldn't have any competition? Anyways, KG is not a SF, so he definately shouldn't beat Tmac there, but I guess some GM's feel his game resembles a SF's, since he is so perimeter.
I agree with the PG, the SG....and even though I dislike Tmac, I agree with the SF as well. I think the TD/KG matchup was ahrd for GM's but they probably chose it based on rings and right now Timmy's got 2 of them and Garnett has zero, that was most likely the deciding factor. This is a good list but feels wierd not to see KG at the top of any position. Even though he's not a SF, he should have beaten out Tmac for that spot if they were gotting voted on head-to-head? Am I the only one that thinks KG is worth a lot more then T-Mac?
Kidd is true, no question. Kobe is true, no question. I never really have considered McGrady a small forward, but if you did that would be true. Garnett deserves to be higher than that. Okay, maybe Duncan should win, but it shouldn't be by that much of a margin. And no one can even compete with Shaq. Overall a pretty good list, I only have a few disagreements.
o'neal is the best center alright. But Garnett...the MVP...not the best in either the PF or SF position? So he's an MVP coming off the bench in the all-star game? No way. I personally think Tim Duncan's a better PF since he's more of a post player, but KG's probably better overall. And if they werent gunna give him PF they shoulda given him the SF. And yes....they listed t-mac as a SF so that Bryant could take the 100%. Same with LBJ...they listed him as SF No way is Bryant that much better than other players at his postion. HE's up there, probably the best....but i find it hard to believe that EVERY gm feels that way. Ray Allen, LBJ, Vince....I'd vote for one of them over Byrant. My 2 cents

Each GM was asked to name the top player at each position. He wasn't given a list of candidates to choose from at each position. And these choices weren't made collectively by a committee, each one gave their own vote independent of the others. Most GMs believe Duncan is a better PF than Garnett -- understandable. Also, most GM probably didn't even consider Garnett for the small forward position -- also understandable. If I voted -- I probably would have said: PG - Cassell SG - Bryant SF - McGrady PF - Duncan C - Shaq My reasoning is that Bryant is clearly better and more proven than Mcgrady at this stage of their careers, and McGrady *should* play small forward given his size and rebounding ability and he's so much better than Peja that I have to take him. While Garnett is better all-around player than Duncan, Duncan is better at the 4 position. I pick Cassell over Kidd because I think he's more clutch, a better floor leader, and superior in half-court sets. Kidd is a better passer and rebounder, and gets more steals, but I'd rather have Sam leading my team. And Shaq requires no explanation. Edit: Also, given the percentages one can deduce that 21 GMs participated in the survey. That means ... PG: 16 thought Kidd was the best 2 thought Nash was the best 1 thought Cassell was the best 1 thought Marbury was the best 1 thought Parker was the best SG: All 21 thought Kobe was the best SF: 11 thought McGrady was the best 4 thought Garnett was the best 2 thought Peja was the best 1 thought Artest was the best 1 thought LeBron was the best 1 thought Kirilenko was the best 1 thought Pierce was the best PF: 14 thought Duncan was the best 7 thought Garnett was the best C: 20 thought Shaq was the best 1 thought Duncan was the best
I Think for the most part this NBA GM Player rankings list is pretty accurate.I'm not suprised at the Kobe Bryant ranking at all,and Duncan ranking was accurate in my opinon.a good list overall in my opinon.
I expect that from Kobe. Whoever said Ray, Vince, and the like are above Kobe, quit smoking and posting. You are really hating on Kobe there to say Vince "Half Man Half a Season" and Ray "I-was-drafted-before-Kobe-but-I'm-not-as-good" Allen are better than him.
Well if I understand how they rate this, it is their performance based on last season? If it is, then Cassell is for sure. But overall Kidd is one of the best point guards ever. Magic, Stockton, Kidd.
I may be wrong, but see how Kevin Garnett is listed as a sf and a pf? I'm guessing that LBJ and T-Mac are listed as sg too, it's just that everyone thinks that Kobe is the best...which he is.
im just suprised kg is not 1st in sf and tmac didnt receive any votes in sg, i mean come on tmac IS a sg
Yea, they weren't given options. They just asked who they thought was the best and they responded and all 21 said Kobe.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Vince "Half Man Half a Season" </div> One of the worst generalizations in the league. I absolutely hate it when people say this. It makes you look like you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about in my eyes. Fact: Vince only missed 9 games last year which is a lot smaller compared to Kobe, who missed much much more due to injuries (not counting any court proceedings) Therefore that label should be placed off. It preaches ignorance.

Yeah Kobe got 100% of votes for sg, but he is not necessarily the mold for the ideal basketball player. People need to stop saying: "well it's okay that (a certain player) had a crappy night, Kobe had a crappy night one time." Please stop with the Kobe comparisons.

He also only played 60 games the year before. And last year -- yeah he played 73 games, but he's clearly not the player he once was (not sure if its mental or physical). He and is cousin T-Mac really need to snap out of their funk this year.

Carter missed only 3 games due to an injury which he had before (right quad), and that was in January. The other 6 games were due to the Bruce Bowen incident, freak incident I may add, which has been fully healed by VC. His knee isn't much of a concern as it was before. He may have lost some of his explosiveness, but he's a very good shooter. He can make any type of shot and he can go inside to, but just not as much as before. Expect his stats to rise this year, and all the Raptors starters with Sam Mitchells offensive uptempo system. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Vince has never been labled as a 2, he's a 3 ALWAYS</div> That's not true. Over the past few seasons, prior to the Jalen Rose trade, Carter played as the starting SG for the Raps for about 2-3 seasons. Anyways, the people at NBA.com making the surveys don't know what they're doing. Tracy McGrady is not a SF, and has not been playing it as his primary posistion in preseason. KG should of only been listed as PF, because he rarely plays the SF now. LeBron James, Vince Carter, Paul Pierce and Shawn Marion, should be the top SF Canidates.

Those who listed KG as the best small forward probably wanted Duncan and KG both to make the team, and they figured KG could handle the SF position easily anyways. Also, T-Mac did play SF mostly last year, even if he was officially listed as a SG. This year, however, he'll mostly play SG and Jim Jackson will play SF.

I thought the people at NBA.Com gave them a ballot or something, similar to the all-star voting thing except with all the posistions, and they picked who they wanted. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Also, T-Mac did play SF mostly last year, even if he was officially listed as a SG. I'm just saying that it's not fair to have a label hung over Vince's head when all the other superstars in the league have missed more games last year then Vince did. And people need to stop dwelling on the past. As Banks stated earlier, he actually only missed 3 games due to injury, the other 6 were due to the Bruce Bowen incident.
