"It's Kobe's team now. He'll love Rudy Tomjanovich's offense, which will provide as many shots per game as he wants. The question is how much help he'll receive.

Lamar Odom is a gifted but undersized power forward who will force matchup nightmares for defenses. But he needs the ball in his hands a lot, so he and Kobe will have to learn to share.

Those two will need shooters surrounding them, so Chucky Atkins can play a major role as a shooting guard. Brian Cook has gained confidence in his shot and can step out to the three-point line, a development that will really open up the floor for Kobe and Odom. Chris Mihm and Brian Grant are being counted on for defense and rebounding, and a host of small forwards will compete for the starting 3 spot.

They're not the Lakers of old, but they still have Kobe."

This is his summary of the Lakers. He rated them number 1 in the Pacific division. You will also find by searching around he rates Miami number 1 in the southeast, what a surprise. The one thing that surprised me was The Suns being number 2.

I guess if we got Steve Kerr's Acceptance as being number 1 team in our divison, that means we are cuz we all know he is no Laker fan.

I can't believe he put Houston on top of Memphis.

Well, he's said some pretty wack thigns before so I wouldn't wouldn't get too excited about everything he says. Jus cause he says so doesn't automatically mean the Lakers will be the best in the Pacific divsion, there is still a chance for any of the other teams to take that. I never take any of these previews too seriously cause it's a make it or break it deal. If they break it all they'll say is "I guess we were wrong" and move on while if they were right they credit themselves immmensly.

If the Kings can stay healthy, they'll be tough to compete with...but if they lose some players down the road, the Lakers will win the Pacific.

^I think it got deleted ...

on topic (sorta): Sports Illustrated picked the Lakers to finish #5 in the West. I think that might be a bit of a stretch, but that's noteworthy nonetheless

Yeah, I saw that. ESPN says we may not make the playoffs, but yet a few weeks ago, they said we may win the division. I don't know...sounds like BSPN to me. [IMG]

SI is a great mag, but their basketball analysis is often lacking. That said, the Lakers may very well get 5th seed, but I wouldn't rely on rankings by SI.

I love their behind enemy lines scouting reports, but I agree that their rankings are often suspect. I will say this, I agree with their NBA finals prediction of Spurs vs Pistons, with Detroit taking another back-to-back.

i dont really know if kerr has ever made a good prediction, but i believe that we could win the division if the we stay healthy while the kings dont. but there is always the lingering presence of phoenix, i wouldnt take them too lightly.

There's a thread about it, actually. Another Kobe vs. Shaq one...but Dre started this new one with an explanation of what really happened.
