If Kobe gets his team to the playoffs and he averages over 30pts and 6 assist hell get it. Kobe is a great scorer and playmaker, but shaq is also. He also has duncan and garnet to contend with too. In my opinion, the mvp award is a toss-up.

If Kobe's had a year to get the MVP, I think this will be it. The team is totally based on his skills and style. In my opinion, he has reached his prime and will have the best stats of his career. With unlimited touches, the fate of the team is in his own hands. Really, the only things that will stop him from earning the award is the team struggling and injuries(not that he has a problem).
Comparing Shaq and Kobe is hard, because of their age and different positions. However, the one they can be judged by is the ability to build a team around them. If Kobe shows the Lakers they can build around him, then I think it would be fair to compare his year to some of Shaq's best years.

So...first game into the season, the Lakers win against the Nuggets, who are supposed to be a great fast-break team with good inside presence (offensively and defensively). Kobe puts in 25 points on 36% shooting (which is the only negative thing in this game for him), but also throws 7 assists and grabs 4 boards...14/15 from the line.

Now, we'll see if Shaq is selfish tomorrow night...that is, if he even plays.

Give me a break. Shaq is one of the few players in the NBA that makes people around him better. He is questionably the most dominant player to ever play the game yet he still looks to make others better. He is probably the least selfish superstar in the NBA today.

Hey, I'm just doing what Steven A. Smith, Charles Barkley, and BSPN has been doing since Shaq was traded.

They've been doubting Kobe, and even more, predicting that they will have the most trouble against teams LIKE the Nuggets.

Sure, it doesn't take one game...there are still 81 games left...but it's the sweetest thing when everyone sees an MVP-caliber player still perform like an MVP-caliber player...AND lead his team to a victory that was predicted to be a loss by analysts and critics everywhere.

I was just stating that your analysis of Shaq is ridiculous. There should be certain limitation to "hating".

You had me until the last line. Remember, Shaq was the one who said "if I get hurt on company time, I have the right to take time off on company time" or something to that effect. That was the statement that really irked me (and apparenlty Jerry Buss as well)

Why, because I said that we'll see if he's selfish tomorrow night?

Maybe the point is that I was emulating all of the media, and the members on here that were doubting Kobe's abilities to lead and distribute.

People were pushing Kobe around...so now, I'm pushing Shaq around a little.

What I liked was Kobe's hustle. did you see that block from behind after he was striped? SICK!!!!!! He also put trust in his teammates to make the plays. Keep double teaming Kobe! Go ahead. Opens the game for the other four players. When you go one on one with Kobe, he'll own ya!!! haha.

    Ha! Give me a break.
Look at all the critisicm, negativity and "hating" that goes on against Kobe in these forums and think twice about posting that again.
When everyone hates on Kobe by the masses, no limitations are necessary but yet when Shaq (who is injured once again [surprise, surprise]) is being doubted, it's "hating?"

I used to think that you hate Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. I take people by their words and I guess like all normal people you wouldn't want to look ridiculous and stupid either. It's cool, please continue your support of us

^ Oh never mind I was just following what you said, haters look ridiculous and stupid. You didn't specify exactly which group of haters that fall under "looking ridiculous and stupid". So since every hater looks ridiculous and stupid I guess you looked that way when you hated the Lakers. Glad to see that you're not looking ridiculous and stupid anymore since you stop hating the Lakers for not being as dominant. One question though, do you still hate Kobe? He's still a dominant player, you know.
