<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Michael Sweetney somehow survived the great purge of 2002-03, that hectic eight-month period in Knicks history last season when Isiah Thomas traded, released or fired just about anyone and anything with Scott Layden's finger-prints on it.

"I didn't know what was going to happen next," Sweetney said. "I was on the injured list and all I did was sit on the bench."

Sweetney avoided banishment because Thomas, the Knicks' president, believes he knows talent when he sees it and he wasn't about to ship out a young player only because he was linked to a former regime. In fact, the consensus among the coaching staff and the organization's top officials is that Sweetney, who turned 22 last week, can be a starting power forward in the league for 10 years.

"He's going to be a better player than I was," says Knicks assistant coach Mark Aguirre, himself a three-time All-Star. "I had a pretty good career, but Sweet is going to be better."</div>

Great article. Isola has really been writing good stuff recently. Let's get a Sweetney discussion going here!

I think that Isaiah Thomas might trade Sweetney. I think that he might be willing to ship out every single one of Layden's products. Even Sweetney. Isaiah might let his ego get the best of him. Who knows maybe if Atlanta was offering Walker for Sweetney I think Isaiah might do it.

I dont think Zeke will, I have a lot of respect for Zeke and I dont think that he would go back on his word. Sweetney is only getting better, Marbury has entered his prime and Jamal Crawford is up and coming, Zeke is a lot smarter than me and I know if I think that the Knicks are good he's gonna know the Knicks are good. He's not going to break up the knicks, well atleast I hope not.

Isiah would never do that. Trade a young talent for an overpaid forward who is slowly slipping as his career continues, it just doesn't make sense. That, and that trade would never work straight up with the amount Walker makes.

Sweets is not going no, he is that breath of fresh air along the frontline, that Mcdyess was surpose to bring when he came over from Denver a few years back. I think that Zeke is going to give Sweets every opportunity to develope and show what he will be able to bring to the table. The only way Sweets gets on the trading block is, if he is developing at a slower pace then expected. But I think it will be at least two year window opportunity for Mike. If he is at the same point he is now, say in 2006-07, then you may start to hear, some trade rumors. But his potential has bought him a good bit of developement time.

The parts of his game that arent strong right now is his laterial quickness defensively. He going to pick up alot of fouls this year because his laterial quickness isnt at the level it needs to be at to keep the stronger, quick 4's in front of him down in the low block. Also all the undersized 4's in this league that have true become effective, have added some shooting range to their game thru time. Sir Charles is on of those players that really up out at me with his development in his shooting range to the point it could stretch to beyond the three point arc. Iam not saying that Sweets has to develope that type of range. But I think he has to truely become affective in the 15-20 foot shooting range, Corliss Williamson is a very good undersized forward scoring in that area. Sweetny cant live on just trying to score under the basket with his back to the hoop, he has to develope a face up game.
