The Spurs GM is underrated, he has compiled so much talent. It's great too, because they players on the Spurs actually earn what they are making. Good money managing skills, and we never really hear about team disputes coming from the Spurs.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">News out of San Antonio late Monday evening confirms that Tony Parker has reached an extension agreement with the Spurs on what works out to be a six-year, $66 million contract.

The final details were worked out and agreed to just shy of the NBA's contract extension deadline.

All indications are that the league will approve the contract.

The Spurs have ensured that at least seven Spur players are locked up with guaranteed contracts that will prevent them from leaving San Antonio as free-agents for years to come.

Thats a hell of a lot of money, but IMO he didnt deserve it. My boy Parker is a great player but to make 11 million for playing at a top 10 PG caliber, is unfair if he was in the top 3 he would deserve it but I dont even think Jason Williams is making that much and look at how good he is.

Actually the contract is back loaded so it'll start off at about 8 million next season with 10-12% increases every year after.

This season he's only making 1.5 million.

Now that Parker has the contract, he must prove he was worth it. The Spurs didn't like the chance of him leaving, and we're forced to offer than kind of money. I think Parker is capable of being worth that kind of money, it just depends on how committed he is now.

I think that Parker will prove to be worth this kind of money in the later years of his contract. He just keeps on improving, his quick hands just get quicker and his passing more creative (and sharper), and his courtvision is just amazing. He's been earning some serious money. He may not seem to be worth it early on, but I think he will live up to the contract after a while assuming he gets no serious injuries.

Hmm, I thought that the Spurs won't pay a cent over $64 million for Parker? Turns out they paid $2 million more. Ironic, isn't it?

I have to disagree somewhat with all you guys. While Parker is only 22 and will need to grow further to establish himself as the top pg, you should consider the chemistry of the spurs team and just how much Parker means to them in that sense. I think it was a great move by the spurs considering the kind of money that has been going around for average and truly unproven players.
