I guess Mullin doesn't want two malcontent players lingering over the season, particularly one that could be a defining year for the Warriors. At the end of the day, if a little extra cash keep Jason Richardson and Troy Murphy that little more happy, you've got a pretty decent ballclub, considering where they've been (in the wilderness). Have to keep Pietrus and Dunleavy, though.
I don't know how the contract numbers will work out from these resignings. Maybe it will end up being not so great. But these players are still very young. JRich is 23 and Murphy is 24, right? Also these players played very very well in the preseason. I believe this year both JRich and Murphy will have big years. I think JRich will average 21 points, 5 or 6 boards, and 3 assists(hopefully with a better long range shooting game, he did shoot 6 for 13 on threes in the preseason), and Murphy will average 18 points and 11 rebounds, and we will pray to the greater beings that he'll be healthy. The question now is; what do we do with Biedrins? Is he going to be a future back-up to Murphy for a long time, or is he going to work out at the center position? Also what is going to happen with Pietrus and Speedy Claxton? I also suppose if things go bad the Warriors will be in a position where Pietrus and Claxton and everyother decent player will be asking for a lot of money, not just because of Richardson and Murphy but also because of Foyle and Fisher. The good part would be that Pietrus and Claxton turn into real good players. But the bad part is-where's the money going to be? Anyway, for some reason this has gotten me rejuvinated for the season. I don't know why. Maybe it shows that the Warriors are ready to play now and can focus on winning games with the players they want, rather than the players they sorta want but still are like, eh...i don't know about them. I think that gives a better enviorment for the players as well, especially if the coach still pushes them. Now let's get Pietrus back and running and gunning, and I'm pumped. I think this is what I needed before the season, hopefully it lasts. Next thing is to look at who's going to be the PG of this team. I personally like Barbosa and Heinrich, even though either are probably not on any trading block(maybe unless Ben Gordon and another wing player plays very well for the Bulls). Also this is the test for Speedy Claxton to see if he can remain healthy. I don't have any problem with Speedy, just his health bothers me. If Speedy can put his injuries away for x amount of time, that would be a very good sign. Let's get the season started! Speedy Claxton: 14 points, 5.2 assists, 1.59 steals Jason Richardson: 21.3 points, 6 boards, 3.5 assists Michael Dunleavy: 12.8 points, 6 boards, 3.1 assists, 1.08 steals per game Troy Murphy: 18.3 points, 11 boards, 2 assists Foyle or Davis? hah i don't know what to expect here...bummer! Hopefully some good stuff. And hopefully better rebounding than what was shown in the preseason, especially from Foyle.
I agree But let's hope we get to the playoffs and hope that Pietrus won't mind playing 2nd fiddle to Jrich. I wonder about Biedrens myself, but we'll see. I think he will do fine as he matures.
This is very good news. There will be no problems with people worrying about their contracts and wondering if they are going to be traded and so forth. Now they are all on one mission, making the freaking playoffs!
I don't know how well we're going to do on the road, but we have to win at home in order to have a chance at making the playoffs.
The first quarter of the season will let us know where we are at. I want to win now but realistically it looks like we are still looking towards the future.

I think our defense is better than it was with Foyle and D-square. But our inside game is going to be hurting. Especially when we have no quickness at the point guard spot, except for Speedy. Maybe Murph will have some low post moves by then.
If Richardson and Murphy become the #1 and #2 options on the team, and they are LEGITIMATE #1 and #2 options, then the Warriors have a good deal, considering McGrady just signed an extension that will pay him nearly twice as much. If Richardson can be any more of a go to scorer than Jamison and Murphy (god forbid) keeps having injury problems, these guys could haunt the franchise for years. Right now I think there's just as good a chance for success as their is for failure. What I'm really worried about is that the new CBA will drop the max contract size and make these two contracts seem really bad.

But they're in the East, it's different.
This signing is good and bad, but more good. 1. This is a HUGE vote of confidence in 2 of our best players. By not signing them, they would either play cautiously, or like people said, pad their stats and add bad chemistry to a good locker room. Yes, we could have re signed them but at what cost? Would we have another Marc Jackson situation? Would we even re sign them? Frankly, I would not want to resign someone with that attitude. My predictions for just Jrich and Murphy are going to be less than what all of you predicted. I agree that Jrich will score more points. He will do this by becoming more consistent than last year. If you remember, he would score 20pts 1 game, then he would only score 10pts the next game. I predict he will average 22pts per game and about the same rebounds and assists per game. Murphy on the other hand WILL NOT average 18pts and 11rebs per game. But I think he will be around 14-15pts and 9-10rebs per game. Remember he was only averaging about 10/10 when he was healthy. A 4-5pts per game increase is great. Lets just hope he keeps getting better and better each year like Jrich and the team learns to play well together for years to come...
Actually I think murph will score more than 15 because he's moved up the ladder on who takes more shots. I wouldn't want Dunleavy taking shots if he's going to miss them badly like he did in preseason.
Yeah, I think our offensive options SHOULD be depending on who is hot... 1. Jrich 2. Murphy 3. Dunleavy 4. Foyle 5. Speedy/Fisher
The Warriors have made a great move here by signing,argubily2 Of the best Warrior players to a long term deal.this is a great move on all acounts, and maybe this is a trend of things to come for the Warriors.
Okay, here's the exact numbers for Richardson and Murphy. It's a little better than what was reported last night, but it's still pretty high. Richardson got 6 years and 70 mil Murphy got 6 years and 58 mil It might have been the same starting amount with 10% raises instead of 12.5% or a lower starting amount, but the difference is small enough to not really matter. I dunno, there's something about Murphy getting less than 60 mil that makes me feel a little better about things. It also helps to know that Richardson will be making less than Arenas this year.
yeah, and if you add the fact that Richardson was supposed to have a 71-72 mil contract, that's another $375k a year... It's small, but it makes me feel better. I'd feel really good if Richardson had signed a 68 mil contract. Is it just me or do other people feel that way? It isn't the fact that 2 mil really makes a difference, it's that he's a 60-something mil player instead of a 70-something mil player.
I think the contract length for Murphy was a little bit lengthy, with his injury problems and all. However, EVERYONE signing contract extensions, are getting 6-7 year deals. If the Warriors didn't give Murphy that kind of money, another team would have. Although I don't agree with the contract, this is basically the only way Mullin could of kept him.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Warriorfansnc93:</div><div class="quote_post">$2m over 6 years is $500k per year. That is enough to sign someone to a minimum contract right?</div> There are no restrictions (other than length of contractt) on signing a player to a league minimum salary... doesn't matter if you're capped or not.
I am happy about the Murphy signing but a little less about the JRich one. Murphy has always been all about the team and he has an attitude to go with it. JRich has been for the most part a team player who does not whine but he started to do so with the negotiations heating up and it doesn't matter when the whining starts, once a whiner, always a whiner. He could have received the same amount of $$ without saying "look at me I want to be the go to guy." Anyone ever tell him that you become the go to guy but doing, not saying?
I've got mixed feelings about the whole deal. I think we're in for some pain if Murphy gets hurt or Jrich starts becoming a headcase or gets taken out of the game too easily based on the other team's defensive strategy. Then again, I've seen Jrich do a lot of neat little veteran moves this year and his defense is a lot better. This preseason he made a lot of "are you kidding me?" shots to help seal those victories.
