It's official. Speedy and Foyle will join Richardson, Dunleavy, and Murphy as starters. Personally, I'm happy Montgomery went in this direction. These five are the core of the team and they should be the ones playing together. Looking down the road two or three years, I can still see this as the starting line up with Biedrins, Pietrus, and whoever else the Warriors draft coming off the bench. They might as well get used to playing together now. Of course the fear is that the second unit will lack offensive firepower, but apparently that's not going to be a problem. Montgomery said a few days ago that he's not going to have a 5 in, 5 out rotation and that a few players need to be on the court at all times. Here's the link. I can't find the other article I had read about it, but I believe Montgomery actually said that he planned to have at least one of the core three (Richardson, Dunleavy, and Murphy) on the floor at all times, and usually two or three. I'm not real worried about not having a better defensive team in the starting line up. I rememeber hearing Al Attles in an interview a few years ago and he said to be a good defensive team you don't have to play good defense the whole game. The key is to play normally, but then have a 2-3 minute stretche each quarter where the team focuses on not giving up any points. The idea is to go basket for basket with the other team, then have a 2-3 minute stretch where you shut them down and build your lead. I think this would be an excellent strategy for this year's Warriors. It would use the team's depth to it's advantage. The starting five goes basket for basket with the other team's starting five, then Montgomery brings in the defensive players (Pietrus, Cheaney, and Robinson) to shut down the other team while whichever of the core three that's still on the floor takes over the scoring duties.
Much like Walker, i like this line-up. I am VERY happy to see Speedy starting. I thought that he should have been starting last year even after we picked up Nick the Quick. He is going to bring the Warriors instant energy on the opening tip. I'm excited to see what these guys can do.
I like this line up. I think that speedy will provide the spark that the Warriors need at the start of games and then they have the steady Fisher comming of the bench. For me, Foyle starting was something that had to happen just because of the money that we signed him for.
Foyle and Speedy are both high energy players defensively. I love watching these guys play. If we go with the strategy that wtwalker stated, i would love to see this line up come in to do it: speedy pietrus cheany robinson foyle
