It was a great start to the much anticipated season for the Mavs fans. The emphasis on defense was clearly seen from the tip-off. It was a great debut for young Devin Harris. Not a single turnover, some nice steals and pressure D on Bibby. He could clearly wind up being rookie of the year if he plays this way. Jason Terry was a bit disappointing though. Hope he plays good coming of the bench and produce spark offense. Marquis sick crossover and dunk in the first half was the play of the game! And he's not even 100% fit yet. What a monster game by Dirk. Its his team now and he needs to take control. Overall I was very much impressed by the Mavs in the opener and should definitely make a run for the division title.
Great game! Dirk dominated, as he will all season. The defense was great! With Devin Harris and Jason Terry, our point guards held their own against on of the best point guard combos in the league. This is a refreshing change. This team is so athletic and deep, it was clearly a mismatch. Marquis was sick! And Devin Harris broke Bibby's ankles on another crossover that led to a dunk. Disappointing notes: Booth and Mbenga didn't play. I was hoping Nelly would keep a center in at all times, but he played Dirk at center quite a bit. Finley and Stackhouse didn't have great games. They were trying to force their own shot. Nellie will need to run some plays for them to help their rythm. Finley lost his man on the defensive end a few time and had four turnovers.
I could have told you Dirk would beast in this game. I feel this season will be wonderful for the Mavericks. Just think, this is the first game of the seson, and they are playing well like this? I feel we can make it all the way this year.

Now those are the kinds of comments you like to hear from the team. The last two years, we won 60 and 52 games. I thought this team would be in the middle. I think we are as good as the 60 win team, but I thought it would take time to come together. Well, perhaps San Antonio will have some competition for the division title after all. One night Dirk leads, then the next Stack and Finley play great games. One night it's Devin Harris, the next night Jason Terry is the leader. So many interchangable parts, so deep, such good chemistry. This is a 60 win team.
This forum needs all the topics It gets, It would be best for there to be game threads instead of all the games being talked about in one thread. It's no way to creat more viewers for this forum to post all the stats in one thread.
Nellie does a good job rotating to keep everyone happy . Terry responded strong after a lackluster opener. Nellie was smart enough to give Devin Harris a break on a back to back game. I expect Devin to play more minutes Saturday. The group certainly enjoys playing together and things can only get better
Good idea by AllNet. This is fun while it lasted but AllNet is right about how we should start up threads for the games, attracts new members.
I've been watching Dallas games on League Pass with a friend who's from Dallas and is a hardcore fan. I gotta say, while two games early in the season mean very little, it seems like you all have a great team. Deep as all hell. My friend kept shouting all throughout both the games "We have a center!!!" and "We're playing defense!!!" Haven't heard those thing about a Dallas team in a while heh? I don't think they will miss Nash as much as I though after watching those two games. I was actually impressed by Terry's play, but the surprise for me was Henderson, he made some good plays. And how the hell did Marquis go undrafted? SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME? That's as mysterious a question as where do sox go when you to the laundramat and why do lids of tupperware always dissappear? Seriously, this kid is straight nasty. And he has those mean looking sleepy eyes. Future all star for sure.
Oh, but my only concern about this team is Stackhouse. I know he played a good game in the last one, but in the first game, he was clearly forcing shots. With so many weapons on this team, there is NO need to force any shots. Will he get it? Will he be OK with getting fewer minutes on the nights that he isn't lighting it up like against NO?
^^^Stack is fine, he knows he's on the same team as the Diggler and in the press conference he said that coming off the bench is better than losing. That is the difference with us giving our newly acquired players(Terry, Stack, n' Damp) less minutes at times, is because they all came from losing teams, and their tired of it.
Mav's Defense on Track While the Mavs still want to be an exciting scoring team, their goal is to become a top 10 defensive team as well. So far, so good. Maverick Defensive Rankings from NBA.com: 8th Rebounding Differential at +3.6. 4th in Opponents Field Goal Percentage at 40%. 2nd in Opponents 3PT Percentage at 29%. 7th in Blocks per Game at 7. 4th in Steals per Game at 11.
