Blazers @ Warriors: Game Thread- 11/3/04 Portland Trail Blazers @ Golden State Warriors Game Time: 7:30pm Where: The Arena in Oakland Starting Line-ups: Golden State Warriors pg: Speedy Claxton sg: Jason Richardson sf: Mike Dunleavy Jr. pf: Troy Murphy c : Adonal Foyle Portland Trial Blazers pg: D. Stoudamire sg: D. Anderson sf: S. Abdur-Rahim pf: Z. Randolph c : T. Ratliff Key Match up Troy Murphy vs. Zach Randolph Zach Randolph finally developed into that player the Blazers had expected. He is an intensity driven player and it will be key for Murphy to match that intensity. This will be a big challenge for Murph. Warriors Keys to the Game The Warriors have to adjust to Monty's offense scheme. The Trial Blazers, as usual, are a quick athletic team and the Warriors must play there own game. It will be key to try and get Dunleavy some shots earlier to develope some confidence. Speedy will have to go to work on Stoudamire as that is our one clear advantage. I think the biggest key for tonights game is to make the Trial Blazers a perimeter team. They are quicker and more athletic than us so we must try and contain the penetration and make them shoot jump shots. My Prediction: We start the season off right with a W. Get pumped Warriors fans, the season is HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!
If it were me, I would pound it down low to the post and penetrate from the perimeter. They only have 1 center available for tonights game
The two things I want to see both involve Speedy. 1. Since this is the first televised game, I want to see how well Speedy runs Montgomery's offense. Can he get Murphy, Dunleavy, and Richardson involved in the offense? Can he control the tempo of the game? The pg is the coach on the floor and Speedy has to be able to translate Montgomery's instructions to on-court execution. 2. Are Speedy and Richardson going to be able to be effective go to scorers? These are the two guys that can create their own shots and they're going up against two guys, Stoudemire and Anderson who are average defenders. Richardson is going to be the one the team will rely on long-term as a go to guy, but right now, I think Speedy is the better playmaker. Oh, and if Telfair gets in the game, I want to see Speedy vs. Telfair. It shouldn't have too much to do with the game, I just want to see two of the quickest guys in the league go at each other.
I don't. I'm usually just on here during games, but I wouldn't be opposed to getting AIM if other people were.

Hit it from the outside, penetrate inside and get to the foul line (take out Randolph by having him draw fouls on you or score on him effortlessly when he gets lazy on D) Also use guards like Derek Fisher to post up their smaller guards like Telfair or Mighty Mouse Stoudamire. If NVE is in, just have Speedy drive on him all day and hope there's no weakside defenders like Theo Ratliff coming at you. Good thing Pryzbilla is out with an injury right? Also have Jrich post up their two guards like Richie Frahm and Derek Andersen. Have Murph continue to kill the blazers from midrange, and use a combination of defenders like Sesay, Robinson, and D-square to control the paint and stop guys like Randolph, Shareef, and D-miles.
I am sooo pissed. I was listening to the game in the car, because I have sirius, but now I cant listen to it on line on KNBR. I think last year I forked out the $5 month for Audio League pass, as soon as I get caught up on bills, I think I am getting the NBA league pass to watch the games...
What is up with this game? Jrich 10pts Murphy starting to heat up after horrible start 15pts Dunleavy 15pts, started hot, has not done much since due to foul trouble 8pts COMBINED from our $80m men (Fisher $37, Foyle $45)
You can't stop Nick Van Exel in the 4th. We should know that. You can hold him down, stomp all over his bad knees, and he'd still find some way to make the shot in the 4th.
Well it was backwards day, Dunleavy was hot. Jrich was stone cold. The only one seemed to be earning his paycheck was Murphy. But he missed a bunch of free throws he normally makes. Everyone played sweet defense, but they made some lousy turnovers and missed out on some easy points. Jrich man, are you going to be playing like this ever since you got locked up in that big $70 mil/6yr contract? Damn. Good assists numbers by our point guards btw. I'm liking the way Dunleavy looks with the inside moves but I swear he's terrible off the screens. He can't move his feet to get them set like Jrich and Murph can do off a screen.
I cant believe NVE score 20pts...I am VERY disappointed in Jrich, Dunleavy, and Murph down the stretch. Can someone who watched the game tell me what happened???
Yeah Murphy missed a bunch of easy free throws which he normally makes and some easy inside layups, but he did pretty well hitting the 18-22 footers. He got a lot of rebounds and made some nice inside post moves where he drew fouls. Dunleavy was hot from the field. Jrich absolutely blew chunks all over the new hardwood floor. Way to go Mullin. I told ya you if you're going to sign anyone to a new contract this year sign Murphy only! Once Jrich is missing everywhere he's basically a non-factor. On defense, the warriors were great, but you can't stop NVE because he'll hit all these step back jumpers, running floaters, and fadeaway shots. You can't do it. If anybody was going to beat the warriors it was NVE. He was one of my favs when he was on Dallas.

The Blazers made their move at the beginning of the fourth when they went 8 for 8 from the field, and that was went the Warriors had Fisher, Cheaney, Najera, Robinson, and Davis in the game. As for the young guys, Custodian, it's time to pull back a little. It was one game. Murphy isn't going to start the game going 1/6 from the line and 1/6 from the field very often. Richardson isn't going to have many games like this where he shoots this poorly from the field. The one thing I was disappointed in was that Richardson knew he wasn't hitting from the outside, yet he only shot 4 free throws. He's going to have bad shooting nights like this, everyone does, but he's got to recognize that when he's having one he needs to get to start getting to the line instead. As for NVE, apparently the only way to take him out of his game is to put him in a Warriors jersey.
Murphy has definitely improved. His moves near the basket looked much better but his touch needs some work. He could learn from Randolph because that kid is awesome around the basket. Murphy missed a lot of shots he should have made. Dunleavy shot the ball pretty well and got some easy points. His passing ability continues to suprise me. Shareef is basically a PF so that was a hard match up for him but he didn't do too badly. Richardson definitely has improved on the defensive end. He moved his feet much faster and jabbed for loose balls. His J needs some work as shown tonight. Offensively JRich was pretty bad tonight and if he scored a little more we would have won. The moment the game jumped the shark was in the 4th when Monty put the whole bench on the floor to rest the starting five. Portland caught up and the damage was done. Well Van Exel did it to us. I'm not suprised...he get's traded then he vows to have a career year and starts his first couple games great. Then he declines and gets injured then before you know it he'll turn into his usual self. Let's check back in periodically and you'll see that bum wear down.
