Man I didn't get to see it but it was a game I thought we should win. This looks just like last year, in the game till the end but can't get those few key shot/s to fall. Oh well, we played fairly well in the opener. Time to move on.
One thing i did not get that BArnett pointed out a few times during the game. We had speedy vs claxton and for some reason van exel was matching up guarding duleavy for a streatch. Seems obvious to me that Dunleavy should be posting him up. Why they didnt expose this is beyond me. Yeah i chalk this game up to nerves. They all came out flat. Dunleavy seemed the least affected, however a couple of lucky shots fell to help him along. Fisher proved simple penetration will lead to easy baskets getting jrich a few dunks and seems to have a calming influence on the team, which we need for our young guys. the defense over all played well if you consider we held portland to under 80 points. It was a hot van exel, and poor D by Jrich that killed us, Jrich benched the last two minutes for a defense and in the game for offense. I am not a big Chaeney fan but the one possession we needed him he shut van exel down. Look forward to next game..... thank you NBa league pass on Satellite and tivo ..... wont miss a game this year
Why the hell did we re-sign Jrich. arggg... re-sign only Murphy not Jrich! And what is up with Dunleavy airballing the open look, I swear he cannot hit open j's. He needs a hand in his face at all times. Where was Foyle??? It's going to be a long season if they cannot find their offense.
Geez custodian, it was one game, chill. Like boogielew said, a lot of what happened in this game can be chalked up to nerves. btw, how often can we say that Dunleavy was the one least affected by nerves? Trust me, Richardson is going to have as many 14 for 17 games as he is 4 for 17. This is the guy who hit 7 consecutive 3's in a game last year. He's a streak shooter, all you can hope for is that he learns how to get in the groove more often.
I agree with Boogielew. The first period, there were a few blown plays. Missed free throws also are a sign. Hopefully, we can correct this next game.

BTW I also want to blame our home fans for booing Nick Van Excel. Everytime they do that he starts hitting trick shots. They should be cheering him or something.

Yea, the fans at the arena can be pretty weird. They booed Jamison last year, which I felt was uncalled for. Van Exel did deserve to be booed somewhat, just for being Van Exel I guess. Well, now he should be booed after this game...reasonably. But like yall said, it wouldn't do too good for the team. Richardson said "that's Van Exel, he likes revenge", or something like that.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"Afterward, Van Exel -- showing his usual swagger and say-anything attitude -- cursed the welcoming committee that once cheered him during his injury-plagued stint with Golden State a year ago."</div> -from yahoo well i just thought that was an interesting quote. how bout my boy NVE! droppin 20 on the warriors. im glad he got his revenge. the warriors didnt believe in him anymore just because he was injured most of last season. GS deserves this. He did it all in 23 minutes or something like that. Damon played more than he did. Im so glad to see nick get his swagger back.

And you know how much of a headache "Nick the Quick" can be. I still love the guy personally because he is an x factor in games and he's one of the better playmakers in the league when he starts getting double teamed. I don't know why some fans would boo him and Jamison last year. Jamison wasn't bad but I think they booed him because he asked for the max when he clearly was not a max player. The fans at the arena probably booed Nick Van Exel because he was complaining a lot last year and its one things fans hate is players that whine. But anyhoo NVE is still the man. I remember that one time he was double teamed by two blazers I think from behind the half court line with 2 seconds left and he shot from the hip fading sideways or something and he still nailed the 3 pointer from more than half court. When he's feeling it or gets passionate in the 4th quarter, he's like a broken light switch that won't flip back down.

I had a feeling that he might put a little too much pressure on himself and try too hard instead of letting the game come to him. The guy will come around.

I thought he did pretty well actually. What killed us was .... us! Fans encouraging NVE by booing him, players not making easy baskets at point blank range, players not hitting free throws, Jrich taking 17 shots only connecting on 4 (Way to earn that 70 mil btw). Foyle being utterly useless (whether its injuries or not, that was money well spent if he's going to be like this for most of the season) Dunleavy not taking enough shots when he's feeling it. Just don't let him take any wide open corner 3's with his eyes open. Like a lot of fans I got some really mixed feelings about re-signing some of the guys. Earlier I think I said Murphy was the best option to build around rather than Jrich because you got Pietrus who has an impact on the defensive end, and Biedrens who will most likely be the next center when his time comes (the fact he dominated most bigger, older guys in the Latvian league and played well in the NBA summer league is promising). During the offseason I had said that Przybilla, Mark Blount, or Chris Mihm was the guy to go after and not Foyle... Of course I'll probably change my mind as the season goes, but you know what I'm getting at. I wanted to see changes in the lineup this year rather the most of the same old familar faces of the Twardzik/Cohan era. Foyle being one of the bigger busts we've. Jrich was all right, but I wouldn't consider him better than let's say Corey Magette/Michael Finley at "power guard". I don't mean to seem like I'm hating over one game, but like I said I'm just venting.

The guy will come around.</div> I know it's not unheard of for players to be trying to do something big with that new contract and all, (especially in a new style of offense/defense they've never played before) but I just don't know if it was wise to lock him up for six years if he's a veteran and he doesn't already know how to let the game come to him. He's got to set the tempo and be more in control at times but know when to step in and take over when all else fails. All he can really do is make good passes, take shots he can make, play good defense. He did okay on passing and defense I think, but most of the time I saw him take shots without setting his feet, missing layups, and playing way out of control.
Pretty sad to see them lose a game like that. Murphy looked like he got Duncanitis on the free throw line, he's a career 80% guy! Oh well. He did play well overall though. How can you guys rag on Dunleavy when he goes 8-15 and plays a pretty nice game, especially being aggressive without hesitation. JRich? Well if you want to be the go to guy, you do it the old way, you earn it. His D was a little better but still you see him shading/well daring the guy Derek Anderson, a righty, to go right. What is that? Stupid, that's what. Where was Foyle? Fisher is okay, but he's a very expensive 15-20 min guy. Speedy is the future and needs to be in there, he in fact played nicely down the stretch and set up the winner except Dunleavy missed the 3 (airballed, but a miss is a miss). The best thing the Warriors did was they did not fall into the dump it to post and stand around offense. They moved the ball around and shared it for the most part. (Contrast with Lakers on TNT which became dump to Kobe in post, stand around.) Warriors did not score much but hopefully the shooting will be there later. Good D all around.
The Warriors played a respectable game against Portland last night.this Warriors team looks very good, and i think if there's more games like this, than the Warriors will be in good shape.
I gave Dunleavy props for having the best game. I rag on him because he was playing the best and he did not score very many points when it counted, in the 4th quarter. This applies to Jrich, Murphy and Dunleavy...If no one else is able to score, you have to take it upon yourself to take over the game. Not only that, you need to shoot the game winning shots. I have been a guy almost all of my life to be an average at best scorer, but when the game is on the line, I want to take that shot. I would have to guess that in the last 2-3 years, I have hit more game winning shots than missed. But that is what I pride myself in is being clutch. IMO Jrich needs to be that one. On this particular game it probably should have been Murphy since he got hot in the 2nd half, or Dunleavy. Heck, I would not have minded if Fisher was in there to take the shot. You know he is clutch.

NVE didn't want to be traded to the Warriors, they never mistreated him while he was here, and they traded him because they wanted to go with Claxston, which is what NVE wanted when he was first traded to the Warriors! Of course I look at NVE's scoring the way I look at T.O.'s end zone dances, if you don't like it, it's up to the defense to stop it.
Haha not only did I love NVE's game I also love T.O.'s victory dances The guy's a riot And I guess it was a better game than I thought because of the tough defense, but it could have been better like walker mentioned how Jrich wasn't very consistent in recognizing the other team's offense. He'll be like playing someone really well and then he'll get lazy or he'll challenge someone to go toward the direction they always go! At least Dunleavy was daring D-Miles to go left instead of right. D-Miles is pretty terrible at finishing even though he can really drive the ball.
