Where did Karl Malone go? I haven't seen him play with the Lakers yet andI was just wondering if he was out with knee problems or if he had thrown the towel in.

If he comes back, his agent said that it would be with the Lakers...and he doesn't want to make a comeback until he is 100%, which means he probably won't be back until January or later, if he does decide to.

I really don't know how much Malone could help this team. I'm sure he's still a very good player and is capable of putting up impressive numbers with a half-court team, but I don't think he'll fit in so well into Rudy's system. It might be better for the Laker's long-term goals to develop the young players and build up the chemistry with the existing team rather than to resurrect pieces from last year's team.

I think he will be great. THe Lakers completely lack any presence of a big man in the middle. Karl will fill the void nicely.

I think Malone would be a great addition to the laker team they have building up. Him and kobe would work well together and remember how he basically shut duncan down last year in the playoffs? He could be a nice piece for the team if he does come back.

Here's the latest on Karl according to the LATimes.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Karl Malone is getting closer to a full recovery from knee surgery and should be physically ready to play in a few weeks. Then it becomes decision time: Come back for a 20th season or retire.

"Karl's still looking at his options," his agent, Dwight Manley, said Friday.

Malone, who averaged 13.2 points and 8.7 rebounds last season, is still believed to be committed to the Lakers if he chooses to play again.

Malone had surgery on his right knee in June to promote blood flow after doctors found a small lesion in the cartilage of his knee. New Jersey guard Jason Kidd, who had similar surgery within a week of Malone, is expected to return early next month.</div> [IMG]

he would be a nice addition obviously but he would considerly slow the Lakers' game pace down...i'd be curious to see how he'd fit in to their new fastbreaking style...

I found this letters very touching . I hope Karl gets to read them and comes back to the Laker Nation. Go to the site there are two more I will only post one so it wont take much space.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">'OK, Miss Carothers, grab your pen and legal pad and take down a letter. Address is it to the Mailman -- upper case M -- and then give it to the mailman -- lower case t -- to deliver to Staples Center. I'm sure someone there can forward it.

    "Dear Karl Malone,

"Come back, please! The Lakers need you.

"More than that, Laker fans need you. They need a reason to feel some passion for this year's squad.

"Ironically, after 18 years of loathing you in a Jazz uniform, in less than one season of wearing purple and gold you made them love you.

"What wasn't to love and admire? You played hard every night, played hurt, and most importantly, played team ball. Despite being the second leading scorer in NBA history, you were the only member of the 'Fab Four' whose ego was smaller than his shoe size.

"Losing Gary Payton in the offseason was addition by subtraction. And while Shaquille O'Neal's trade to Miami has left a big void in the paint, not having you is a far greater loss. Leadership and wisdom are harder to replace than points and rebounds.</div>

Karl is in an old folks home enjoying some therapy and some nurses [IMG]..contemplating whether he wants to waste another year of his career and be called a hasbeen or just go off as a legend of UTAH.

Latest on Karl Malone. I get the feeling he will come back but after the holiday season so by Jan or Feb he should be joining the Lakers.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Malone, furthermore, is not expected to consider a return to the NBA until the new year after undergoing knee surgery in June, according to agent Dwight Manley.

"He's physically there, or almost there," Manley told ESPN.com. "He's doing really well. It's just a question of when he wants to make a decision. He has some family plans through the holidays."

ESPN.com reported in August that Malone had informed new Lakers coach Rudy Tomjanovich that, if he plays a 20th season, he would only sign with the Lakers. Malone and Manley later had lunch with Lakers owner Jerry Buss on the eve of training camp to let Buss know that Malone wouldn't sign with another team.

But San Antonio and Minnesota continue to check in regularly with Malone, according to league sources, promising to save a roster spot for him.

Manley said the Lakers remain a virtual certainty to sign Malone, if he does play, with Malone reluctant to move his family out of the neighborhood he shares with Kobe Bryant. Manley said Malone's wish to stay in the Western Conference rules out the Miami Heat as well as the Pacers.

"In all my conversations with Karl," Manley said, "he just didn't have a desire to play in the East."</div>
