Heres an issue mentioned in the SAC@HOU thread which I thought would be good to discuss.

Should Juwon or Mo be traded for a more defensive minded PF?

It seems that Mo is starting on the lineup to get his trade value up, but someone has mentioned that we are better off keeping Mo and trading Juwon.

Yes I will agree that Mo is producing more than Howard, but Howad isn't starting.

On theo ther hand, if we were to get a defensive PF who is a starter, it would be better having Mo on the bench rather than Juwon.

    Thoughts?

Mo has better trade value, but he puts so much more effort into the game. J Howard is not a bench player, and always gets the last-second shot -- and doesn't hit them.. I would trade J Howard, and a few draft picks for a good PG. A PG who will let Tracy set the offense, and can spot up whenever he needs to. I think Mo should start over any other 'defensive' minded PF, because, as long as the weak side, and helping defense is there, not everyone of our starters needs to play defense. Like the Pistons, Rasheed isn't known for amazing defense, but Prince, and Ben Wallace are there to help. I think Weatherspoon has proved that he is a good Role-player, I wouldn't mind him being at second string. Just my 2 cents.

Definitely Taylor, I've never been a big fan of Howards

This is my thought. I think that Yao and Tmac maybe need 1-2 years before they go into their prime. It will be then, that hte Rockets can win a championship. Howard is already pretty old, and he's not getting any better.

Taylor is younger, and has shown great potential.

Neither of them play great defense, but taylor is much bigger, so he has more potential to play defense.

Howard is awful off the bench, but Taylor brings good energy. Finally, i think that Howard has more market value, so we can get a better PF by trading Howard than by trading Taylor.

yes i agree with zhuang with alot of those things.

sorry magnomonkey, but what you said doesn't really make sense to me. JVG is playing Mo to get his market value up, yet you say that he is worth more than Howard? Doesn;t make sense.
Coming into this season, I thought to myself that this year's Rockets success depended on how well Howard played. As you can see, with Howard playing bad, we've lost our 1st 2 games.

He is definitely worth more than Taylor because of his experience and the fact that he is a better starter.

Another problem with magno's thoughts is that if we trade either howard or taylor for a PG, we will be undersized. Comparing our defense to Detriot is just crazy, because while Rasheed isn't a defensive stopper, Tayshaun and Ben are VERY good. We don't have the defensive brilliance of the Pistons.
Also, we have too many guards. I know that our PG situation isn't the best at the moment, but we have enough guards to last us this year, especially with Sura coming back.

a defensive PF is what we really need.

    Any more thoughts?

By the way, do you think it would be wiser to start Howard to keep his trade value up, and then trade him?

The way things are going now, Howard's trade value will continue to go on the decline. Because he's coming off the bench and not getting great numbers, his value will only be based on what he can give a team now, not what he used to give. His contract is also not very optimistic, and is getting older. Taylor on the other hand has shown a great work ethic and is an improving defender.

i guess its a matter of playing a lineup that will win games over a lineup that can raise trade value.
