Golden State Warriors (0-3) at Dallas Mavericks (3-0)

Monday, November 11, 2004 at 5:30 PM PST
At the American Airlines Arena in Dallas
Golden State: Pacific Conference, 3 GB
Dallas Mavericks: Southwest Conference, 0 GB

Starters:
Dallas Mavericks
PG Devin Harris
SG Michael Finley
SF Josh Howard
PF Dirk Nowitzki
C Erick Dampier

Golden State Warriors
PG Speedy Claxton
SG Jason Richardson
SF Mike Dunleavy, Jr.
PF Troy Murphy
C Adonal Foyle

Quick Recaps
The Dallas Mavericks have been effective on the offensive end, as expected, scoring over 100 points in each of their wins. But, they have also been effective guarding the defensive end, limiting opposing teams to under 100 points; Memphis scored only 88 points against the Mavs.

Dirk Nowitski is having another great season, averaging 24.7 points and 10 rebounds a game. Michael Finley (20 ppg) and Erick Dampier (11.3 ppg, 10.3 rpg) have also played effectively, leading to a nice winning streak to start the Mavs' season.

The Golden State Warriors are playing their first game away from home, starting a five-game road trip. They have not found a success quite yet, losing their first three games at home, so a change of scenery may be welcome. However, the Warriors have not felt welcome at American Airlines Arena in the past, losing 11 in a row in the building.

There is not one Warrior in particular who has been extremely consistent in stepping up through the first three games, with Dunleavy, Richardson, and Murphy all in low double-digit scoring. The point guard duo of Speedy Claxton and Derek Fisher has been effective, but more contributions are needed from the entire team. The Warriors are currently shooting a league-low 36.8 percent.

Key Matchup
Golden State's Center-by-Committee v. Erick Dampier

The team traded Dampier this offseason to save money, expecting their center combo (Foyle, Davis, and at times, Robinson) to provide enough spark to fill Dampier's contributions. Although many voiced their opinion that Dampier was overvalued, too old, and inconsistent, he has been playing very well in Dallas thus far, posting very similar numbers as last season. It will be vital for the Warriors big men to keep Dampier off the offensive boards, where he excels at putbacks and gives the Mavs second-chance opportunities.

Prediction
To win in Dallas, the Warriors' young stars must step it up and send a message to the league that they can defeat one of the better teams in the Western conference. Considering Dallas' team makeup, it will be unlikely to win even if the Warriors play outstanding defense without having their offense kick into gear. If the Warriors remain cold from the field, expect Dallas' potent offense to blow the Warriors out of the water.

Expect another blowout similar to the one against Utah...

We all remember that Dampier always turns into Shaq when we play against Pacers. Wonder if Dampier will continue that tradition. I know the chance of winning this game is tiny to say the least. But, at this point, I pray for any kind of win...

I feel you Kwan. This game does not look to be in our favor at all but the Warriors have proved over the past two years that they can beat anybody on any given night. I hope Foyle is able to give Dampier problems.

Seems to me most people are saying it will be a Blowout??

I think this is the team that played the "Dumb and Dumber" movie before the game mainly for the hilarious quote from Jim Carey.

Jim:"the chances of me and you are like one and one-thousand?"
Girl:"more like, one and a million"
Jim:"So your saying that there's a chance"

Saying that this will still be a blow out but i still love Najera.

Here is my take, if we play like we have played so far this season, it will be a blowout for Dallas. If we play like we did last year, we have a better chance of winning.

The W's need to get it going somehow, and hopefully it will be against the Mav's. I'm not expecting a win here, but putting up some points would be nice. I hope the W's just played a bad two games in a row, and I sure hope the offense isn't as aenemic as its been lately. JRich and Murph need to step up badly and Foyle needs to stay out of foul trouble. Getting Speedy to drive and look for his shot before passing it out, along with Dunleavy being more confident would be nice too.

Getting within 1 against the Jazz and 3 against the Clips after being down so much took alot, hopefully there isn't a huge hole, but then again these are the Mavs. We can only hope for the best.

Oh yeah, is anyone doing the AIM thing. Let me know.

I think it will be close but the warriors will lose by 9 points and Damp is going to have monster game with a triple double.

Can somebody help out and say how our rokie Biedrins is doing? Montgomery says that he has to add more weight, beacuse he is basicly is being pushed around in the court, and thats why he is not geting any minutes. Seams like he will brake his psihology, like L.Brown did with Darko. I know that he is only 18 and no experiance, but still it seams like if Montgomery would get his hands on C.Bosh, than he would bench him as well... I heard that he is famos for benching rokies...

I'd like to think that the Warriors have a chance against Dallas.the Mav's aren't a good as of a team this year, than last, but still the Warriors are going to have to bust their butts in order to win this game.it's either going to be a decent game,or a blow out.i hope it's not the latter.

The match up that everyone is forgetting about is the Nowitzki and Murphy matchup if Murphy can play good defense and make Nowitzki play defense the Warriors will have a chance to pull the upset.

The Mavs are running their offense through Dampier. When he comes out of the game they will start raining 3's on us. We better hope we sub in good perimeter defenders. Wait... What perimeter defenders? Oh no!

It's only the first quarter, but Derek Fisher is tearing apart the Harris/Terry combo.
