Why is there no talk out there about the Lakers getting JKidd? LA would have to be at the top of Kidd and his wife's list and LA really needs him. The Lakers have a good bunch of young players available to provide the Nets with salary cap relief next year, along with some veterans with contracts that expire next year. What will it take to put JKidd in purple and gold?
i just wanted to say the rockets need a pg too. but as was already stated in a laker thread, teams around the league are waiting to see how kidd comes back after surgery. if he can still play well and provide good leadership from the 1.
Because Kidd is their franchise player and the Nets would probably want a franchise player back or half a team's starting lineup. Either way it looks like the Nets are not gonna let Kidd go unless the trade benefits them.
I don't think the Lakers have what NJ wan'ts for the trade to happen. All I know it will be a package with Odom and someone else pretty decent. The Lakers won't be able to get Kidd unless the Nets get equal or more value.
New Jersey trades: PG Jason Kidd (15.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 9.2 apg in 36.5 minutes) C Alonzo Mourning (8.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 0.7 apg in 17.9 minutes) New Jersey receives: PF Brian Grant (8.7 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 0.9 apg in 30.3 minutes) SF Devean George (7.4 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.8 minutes) PF Chris Mihm (6.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 0.3 apg in 17.5 minutes) SF Caron Butler (9.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.9 apg in 29.8 minutes) Change in team outlook: +8.1 ppg, +12.4 rpg, and -5.4 apg. L.A. Lakers trades: PF Brian Grant (8.7 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 0.9 apg in 30.3 minutes) SF Devean George (7.4 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.8 minutes) PF Chris Mihm (6.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 0.3 apg in 17.5 minutes) SF Caron Butler (9.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.9 apg in 29.8 minutes) L.A. Lakers receives: PG Jason Kidd (15.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 9.2 apg in 67 games) C Alonzo Mourning (8.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 0.7 apg in 12 games) Change in team outlook: -8.1 ppg, -12.4 rpg, and +5.4 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to New Jersey and L.A. Lakers being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. New Jersey and L.A. Lakers had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Why would the Lakers trade 4 players for two old injured guys? The reason is because this trade will dump Brian Grant's HUGE contract. They also lose Devean George, who doesnt seem like he will get any playing time this season. This trade is practically Chris Mihm and Caron Butler for Jason Kidd and Alonzo Mourning. Zo's health seems pretty good so far, and he can give u 12/6 on a nightly basis. This is to back up Vlade Divacs. If Zo's health improves more,he can play more minutes and maybe become a 16/10 player. Jason Kidd, injured. People are afraid that he will not be any good when he returns. Let me tell you, even if he doesnt go back to how he was before, he will still be better than what the Lakers have right now. Chucky Atkins? Sasha Vujavic? And if Jason Kidd does return to what he was before the injury, then the Lakers will become championship contenders right away. PG - Jason Kidd/Chucky Atkins SG - Kobe Bryant/Kareem Rush SF - Jumaine Jones/Luke Walton PF - Lamar Odom/Brian Cook C - Vlade Divac/Alonzo Mourning I dont know about you, but this lineup looks pretty impressive. The Nets would do this trade to get rid of an unhappy Alonzo Mourning, and Jason Kidd, who no one knows how much the injury will affect his game in the future. Also, he is getting old. Since the Nets are rebuilding, they will get Caron Butler and Chris Mihm, 2 young players who could blossom in NJ since there really is no "goto-guy" except RJ. This would give them both a chance to show what they've got. In LA, they wouldn't get this chance because of Kobe and Odom. NJ also needs a banger. Brian Grant provides this. Devean George will provide the Nets will a spark off the bench with a trey here and there, and a few nice dunks. He will not get the chance to play in LA, behind Kobe, Rush, Jumaine Jones, and Luke Walton. PG - Travis Best/Jacque Vaughn SG - Richard Jefferson/Devean George SF - Caron Butler/Eric Williams PF - Brian Grant/Aaron Williams/Brian Scalabrine C - Chris Mihm/Nenad Krstic The Nets would have a relativly young team, with a few veterans to provide leadership.
I would not do that trade if I were the Lakers. Mihm is having a good season thus far, he's just struggling with consistency problems. Grant may have a huge contract, but it's not likely that the Nets will take on that contract just to get rid of Kidds. Butler is too young to trade, and if he continues to play the way he's been, me as a Laker fan, does not want to trade him, nor would I want to trade Odom since that was brought up. If that's what it takes to get Kidd, I won't want it. To me, it's not worth trading away half of a team to get one or two players, even if one is the best PG in the league. And about Devean George real quick, the reason it seems like he will never play is because he is on the IR because I believe he had ankle surgery during the offseason, something along those lines, and is recuperating from it. He's expected to be back around December.
While none of those guys have long term deals, I think the Nets want to see some immediate contracts come off the books in a deal for Kidd. Caron Butler is pretty similar player to Richard Jefferson, just has kind of fade the last two years. Anyway, I dont think Jersey would trade for a player with the same style as their franchise player(which RJ is now, and especially if Kidd goes). They would look to add some who would compliment RJ, if that player doesnt have an expiring contract. Mihm has looked good for the Lakers, so they might not want to part with him. And New Jersey doesnt really have much use for him, either, he has 2 years left on his contract I believe. And only looks good because Kobe gives him a bunch of layups all night. And Brian Grant's 2 or 3 years left on his hefty contract just kills the deal, completely. No way would the Nets bring him into the fold because he would never be tradeble. The Nets goal should be trying to get rid of all big contracts in the next two seasons.
I think Kidd will definitely be out of NJ sooner or later...I've heard him going to Denver for Miller/Nene and another expiring contract which would be ABSURD for the Nuggets...I dont see him ending up in Houston, they dont fit his style...the Lakers make sense but who would NJ want from them? It's likely Kidd could end up on a team even worse than NJ...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting jtam101:</div><div class="quote_post">maybe kidd might be traded to portland. for like shareef abdur rahim or sumthin. who knows</div> Not likely. There's a reason they got Telfair, and by getting Kidd, it prolongs him going into a starting role because of the fact that Kidd still has what, 4 years left on his contract? I don't see it happening. Granted it would be great for Telfair to have someone like Kidd to show him what to do, it might prolong him from being their future starter, but who knows. That might be more than 4 years down the line.

And John Nash has made it clear the Telfair isnt going anywhere. Btw, a couple of months ago, I would have said Kidd for Nene/Miller would be absurd for Denver. But right now, I honestly wouldnt be shocked if Denver made that move. They are in serious need of some leadership on that team. Someone to bring it all together. And Nene plays the same postion basically as Martin, so that might be a poor mix. Nene seems to be on the trade block. maybe Denver sees a new version of Kidd/Martin & Rj except replace Jefferson with Melo. I dont think Kidd going to Denver is as unrealistic as it was 2 or 3 months ago during the offseason, when there was a light rumor. If Denver keeps struggling they are going to make a blockbuster change maybe player related or coaching related. But something got to happen, cause they look really bad right now. And the expectation level for them is so high. But I think Kidd & his Knee is still a big risk for them.
NO! dont bring him to the Lakers the Lakers look good the way we are we just need to get used to eachother give us 20 games, and that trade you mentioned is insane we have young talent were not going to trade it for old and injured talent.

Either way I think the Lakers can benefit from a PG. Steve Nash would be awesome for what they're trying to do. Him and the Suns are an awesome run-n-gun team.
