First off let me say that I know there would be about 1% chance of a trade of this level happening during the season. It would be alot of change involved for pretty much all the teams involved but giving their situations I think all the teams make out pretty well in the trade. Here goes... New Jersey Trades: PG: Jason Kidd C: Alonzo Mourning PF: Aaron Williams Nets Get: SG: Latrell Sprewell PF: Mo Taylor PG: Tyronn Lue Why does Jersey do this? They get rid of a boat load of contract money in Kidd & Zo. This is a better option then just buying out Zo's contract where they would still have to pay him most of his salary in the future. All the contracts they get in return will be well off the books by the time they move to the new arena in brooklyn (Lue & Spree come off the books this year). And they still put a team on the floor that can be competive on a night to night basis this year with Jefferson, Sprewell, Taylor as your go to players. So you keep some Nets fans interested in the team while your dumping salary, especially since Spree has always been a fan favorite in Jersey. Why Jersey doesnt do this trade? The Nets wanted a young talent as part of the deal for Kidd, they dont get that in this trade. Also you dont really know how Sprewell will react being sent from a championship contender to a team trying to rebuild even if its only for less then a full year. Houston Rockets trade: PF: Mo Taylor PG: Ty Lue *maybe send a draft pick to New Jersey Houston Rockets Recieve: PG: Sam Cassell PF: Aaron Williams Why Does Houston do this trade? They can an all-star level point guard in Sam Cassell. Who would be an excellent 3rd option behind T-Mac and Ming, Cassell could average about 16ppg & 7ast for the rockets, while shooting close to 48% from the field. And you get a servicable backup bigman in Aaron Williams. Both bring alot of playoff experience to the table. Why Doesnt Houston do this trade? Cassell isnt a protypical Van Gundy type point guard. He likes to score the basketball. And his intensity on defense isnt always going to be to Van Gundy's liking.... The Rockets lose Mo Taylor's scoring off the bench. Puts more pressure on Howard to carry the load at the 4 spot. Minny Trades: PG: Sam Cassell SG: Latrell Sprewell Minny Gets: PG: Jason Kidd C: Alonzo Mourning Why Does Minny Do this Trade? Cassell & Sprewell both want contract extension. But minny doesnt seem in a rush to give it to them. It seems that Flip Suanders has put handcuffs on their games leaving them on the bench for long stretch. Cassell & Sprewell may have worn out their welcome in Minny, from the wonderful year they had last season. Jason Kidd allows Minny to go to a 2 point guard lineup, giving them a look they arent having right now with Hudson & Cassell. A two PG lineup will bring more speed to Minny's style, something the Wolves have definately not shown much of at the start of the season. Also Zo seems to be back strong from Kidney transplant. And he gives the Wolves a inside pressance along side KG, something they dont have right now. And deseperately need, especially on the backboards. Why doesnt Minny Do this trade? Kidd's Knee, you dont really know it will heal and how quickly. Even tho Cassell has got off to a slow start this season, his shooting has been a key to what Minny trying to do, so many feel he is a better fit for the T-wolves style then Kidd in the long run of 82-games. And the playoffs. You take on some subpar contracts to just to win now this year if it doesnt work out as kidd gets older then the deal may handcuff your cap from making future moves. The trade is also a big change in the team concept of the Wolves, they go from a effiecent half-court team, to a team that really has to run in the opencourt alongside Kidd. I still think Cassell is the best pg for the Wolves. But based on the way Flip has used him so far this year maybe the Wolves dont feel the same. But do you trade Cassell to a conference rival to make the change? could comeback to hun the Wolves come playoff time, if the two teams meet. Anyway I think this trade has alot of pros & cons for everyone involved. But I wouldnt say that its a bad trade for anyone. When you move all-stars & former all-stars you are going to lose something in certain areas. And gain in others. Anyway what do you guys think of this Idea?
It's interesting but I don't think it will go down especially for Minesota. Giving up Sam Cassell for Jason Kidd is a downgrade. He fits in Minnesota's style perfectly and most importantly he is healthy. Kidd's knee is a major concern. This is his 2nd one in a little amount of time. Jason has not yet proved that he can still put up good numbers after a knee surgery. Also I think Houston is not giving up enough to get Cassell Taylor and Lue and a pick don't seem valuable enough.
how wud houston trade 2 role players for 1 all star and another decent role player?and y wud minny trade 2 stars for 1 star thats injury proned and another player thats also not reliable. i mean they DO wanna get rid of them but they can def get more value out of them.

But I think if you combine Taylor & Lue's contract situation with that of Sprewell's expiring contract then it looks presentable to New Jersey. There arent that many teams interested in Kidd ,Minny seems to be the only team out there that is intersted, according to rumors. Portland was interested but I dont think they wont to give up Telfair and thats who the Nets really want for the future. And Reef has played well at the three for them. So Portland might be saying no go for Kidd right now. So who left? And if Minny is going to get Kidd then its going to have to be a two for one situation from a contract standpoint, cause Kidd makes so much. I agree Cassell is a much better player for their style, you will get no arguement hear from me. But the rumors that Minny wants kidd are still pretty heavy, so they are going to have to give up a combination of Cassell & Sprewell or Cassell & Wally inorder to do so realistically. But Wally's contract isnt inviting to anyone especially not Jersey.
I dont like this trade for Houston...only particular PGs can thrive in Van Gundys system and Cassell would not be one of them...hes a shoot first, pass later PG and that just doesnt mix...
