The Lakers are competing. Very well I might say. I like their style of play and I think by mid season they will be in full stride. I was just curious to know how you felt about the current team, what you think our team is capable of with the additions of Divac and possibly Malone, and what positions we need to fill during the next off-season. GO LAKERS!
a new center, grant at pf and move odom to sf, bulter to sg, kobe to pg, but that will never happen lol
i wont look at the off-season just yet cuz its still early to tell what we really need. but i do feel that in mid-season they will be in good condition. hope they play better D cuz thats what they need.
This is looking freaking good to me. At the All-Star weekend the Lakers will be favorite for the championship. Remember at the end of the summer when everybody was saying its all over for the Lakers. Forget about that. This team is good and just a little growing up to do. Its almost a perfect team

Remember at the end of the summer when everybody was saying its all over for the Lakers.</div> before they become the favorites, maybe they should learn to keep and hold on to the big leads. So far though, I can't really judge the Lakers because it's too early and they don't have all the pieces yet.
Lakers are no where near perfect, but their not a horrible team. A lot of what if's like what if Vlade comes back or what if Houston had T-mac. But to me this Laker team will have a better chance trading Lamar Odom for Baron Davis. They also need to play up to their potential with out Kobe. I know it seems impossible, but when Kobe goes for 40 i know that must suck for you Laker fans when they have to see a Loss right next to it. Odom needs to become that other threat because Mihm and Caron arent capable (to me) to do it consistantly. They still havent beat a contender but you cant blame them if they have'nt played them so we can judge this team a lot better when Detroit, Minnesota, Indiana and Miami come to town. But for now they lost to San Antonio and Memphis beat a Tmacless Houston and beat a bunch of nobody's, not that impressive. Lakers dont make the playoffs in my view.
Ok i went overboard with some of my remarks. They aren of course not near perfect but still a good team. Alot of people had doubts before the season starting. Lakers will make the playoffs. No doubt in my mind. This team has alot of pontential. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">But to me this Laker team will have a better chance trading Lamar Odom for Baron Davis.</div> You gotto be kidding me man. Why would the Lakers do that? It doesnt make sense to me
^^^^ I know you've noticed that Kobe has had to take over with the point gaurds more than 50 percent of the time. And when he does that slows down his own pace at what he is known for doing. (bashing 30 plus on the other team) Lamar Odom always scores with an iso play or he's open for a three and none other than Kobe gives him the ball. If Lamar Odom was better at his one on one abilities like the other good PF in the West are (Duncan, KG, Dirk) than i'd be okay with Odom, but you have solid rebounders in Mihm and Grant, Chucky Atkins seems to play in the 1st half and disapear in the second (which is why you lose your leads a lot) btw, someone tell him to put his hand down after every shot cuz he's making people who can shoot look bad. To me it looks like Kobe gets tired and I would to if you have to do everything yourself. Baron Davis would be a great pick-up and he knows how to run the break, and with Caron always runnin' down court along with Kobe, you'll have Showtime back in no time. And he knows how to score on his own. Send Kareem Rush along with Lamar and Chucky and I'm sure you'll be able to get B. Dizzle and maybe the birdman.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Zoltar:</div><div class="quote_post">how Baron for Brian Grant salaries match</div> /chuckle, this made me laugh Here is a list of people I wouldn't mind being traded on the Lakers: Brian Grant Kareem Rush Luke Walton Chucky Atkins Slava Devean George I think by the all-star break the Laker's should package some of these guys up and ship them out for a good center or a good point guard.
^ In my NBA Live dynasty (superstar level) I traded Brian Cook, Bryon Russell (well he was still on the Lakers) and Luke Walton to the Kings for Bobby Jackson. The salaries worked, and I don't know if they consider this in real life, but it'd give a boost to our PG pos. no disrespect, Chuck. And, I traded both Devean George and Caron Butler to the Clippers to get Corey Maggette before shipping him along with Slava Medvedenko and Chucky Atkins to the Raptors to get Vince Carter and Milt Palacio. If the Lakers did what I did to my roster, what do you guys think of this lineup: C- Chris Mihm PF- Lamar Odom SF- Vince Carter SG- Kobe Bryant PG- Bobby Jackson 6th- Vlade Divac 7th- Chucky Atkins 8th- Kareem Rush 9th- Brian Grant 10th- Milt Palacio In Vince Carter, we get his problematic knee but also get a more reliable 2nd scoring option behind Kobe Bryant. I think Carter wouldn't mind stepping back to Kobe because his injury has affected the way he plays the game and he isn't as explosive as he used to be. But he's definitely still good enough to provide the scoring boost whenever we need him. How about Bobby Jackson at the PG? He's strong, quick and has range.
First off...let me say this much: the Lakers are 8 games into the season and are at .500 right now. Doesn't sound good for a team that was once on top of the basketball world...but now consider that we are a new team...one returning starter, a new coach, and with Vlade/Slava injured. Does our record sound better? I'd think so. Now, if we absolutely need to make a trade (by mid-season or whatever), then I'd say we go for either Sam Cassell or Jason Kidd. Why either of these? Well, both should be healthy by January...and there's a huge possibility that both will want out of their respected organizations. The Nets will want quantity, while the Wolves will want quality...so the best bet would be to unload Rush, Atkins and Grant for Kidd. For Cassell...it just depends on who the Wolves need come mid-season. Sam Cassell may not be a good defender...but he'd defend the elite PG's better than Atkins. Also, Cassell won two rings alongside...guess who? Rudy Tomjanovich. He also brings great three point shooting and he's a genius on the court. I don't have to speak for Kidd. He's one of the best PG's to ever play the game, and I doubt his surgery will slow him down more than Atkins and Brown's "disabilities" on the court. Now, if only the Nets and the Wolves would pull the trigger...I'd be happy. Let's get this party started, Buss...do what's needed for this team, if the time comes.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting samoan-maverick:</div><div class="quote_post">RealDeal why not Baron???</div> Because the Hornets wouldn't do it.
A team with Kidd, Kobe, and Odom would be spectacular. It would be Showtime again in LA. I can't imagine how the Lakers could possibly obtain him, though.
Here is a list of player's I think are on rough ice with there teams right now that could be a possibility for the Laker's to look for: Jason Kidd Sam Cassell Vince Carter(Well I don't know anymore if they stay hot like they are) Ron Artest Baron Davis(Doesn't seem likely, but possible) Latrel Sprewell(I don't know, good and has trade value, we could get him for a bigger trade for someone like Kidd) Well there is 6 big names that are I think shopable, but like Brandon said its 8 games into the season and we really need to see these players play especially the injured ones this season.
Vince Carter will be TOUGH to pull from Toronto, unless we trade Kobe...and that would never happen. Plus, I'd like to see Carter be a consistent factor for a couple of years before picking him up. Ron Artest's career is heading downhill...maybe not statistically, but controversy is surrounding him and he's already taking nights off for his "rap career" now. If we need a defender, I'd be interested in Hassell or Bowen before Ron Artest. Baron is a possibility...anything is possible...but that's if the Hornets continue their losing streak. However, I see Magloire getting traded before Baron, and I don't think Magloire is good enough for his salary (right now at least). Sprewell is a possibility, but Odom would have to go...and I'd rather have Lamar. Spree is wanting too much money, anyways.
I think our starting line-up is actually quite good, what I think we need are decent dubs for when Kobe and Odom get off. Mihm will improve by a lot next year, this year we should focus on Kobe becoming a better team player and having a good team when Kobe is off
