Ouch! Carolina's shooting was 30% and Santa Clara was over 50%. Not a good start to the season for the Heels. Also, for those who didn't know, Ray Felton was suspended this game, and you see what happens...This team has got a lot of growing up to do...
Felton is a great player, but a loss to Santa Clara is almost inexcusable, especially by 11 points. You're right; this team is real young and does have a lot of growing up to do. Jawad Williams, Sean May, and Rashad McCants all shot horribly. Not to mention that Marvin Williams, who you'd think was the second coming of MJ by all his hype, only got 7 points and a few boards. And that was without one of UNC's top scorers. I doubt he's going to have as great of a season as everyone says he is.
No, he won't have as good of a season as everyone says, but you know which freshman will? Darius Washington with Memphis I was shocked to see this. I don't get it, you would this this would be a breeze for UNC. But they come up with a loss?
I bet you all were just waiting for my rant, and let me warn you I am not taking any prisoners in this post. 1. Roy Williams needs to finally get this team straightened out, and teach them to stop being primadonnas. 2. One player please, pretty please play some defense. 3. Clear up mistakes: C.J Hooker missed an open dunk, and they took bad shots 4. Someone step up at point when Ray isn't there. Quentin Thomas got the start in his homestate, and what does he do? He scores 2 points. Absolutely sad. 5. Last but not least, I know we didn't have Ray but who the hell cares? IT'S SANTA CLARA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's an upset like this every year to start the season, not that I expect UNC to win it all this year but remember when uconn lost to GT in the pre-season NIT? certain posters said that loss made them overrated and they would not win the championship? too early for the "told you so" speeches.

At the time It was a HUGE upset kind of like this one. It's the same situation. No one thought GT had a chance to even do anything that year, just like Santa Clara. This loss is not going to break UNC's season. Sryacuse also lost very early two seasons ago, the same year they went on to win it all. Just like Uconn, this kind games are good for the state of college basketball but at the same time at this stage, they don't really mean much.

Santa Clara is a small conference school that already has a loss. Georgia Tech was a team with a bit of a basketball history that played in the ACC and had three legit pro prospects.

Granted the teams are alot different but the situation compared to last year is the same. The point is, It's way too early for people saying "I told you so" just because a top 5 ranked team lost to a lower ranked school in november.
This game should have been an easy win for the Heels no matter they circumstances. I know Felton was out, but still; it's SANTA CLARA. I still think NC is going to go a long way, but they have to beat these type of teams before thinking about any other team...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Voodoo Child:</div><div class="quote_post">I hate to say I told you so () - http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/gameupdate?g...541&confId=null</div> Blown out? Since when is losing by 11 pts called blown out? Losing by 20 is blown out not 11.
It's a blowout because of how good of a team UNC is. When your #3 in thr rankings and you have a double digit loss to an unranked team, to me, its a blowout.

It's not like the NBA either where an 11 point lead can evaporate in a matter of minutes. There's a lot less scoring in the college game, so an 11 point lead means more in the NCAA than it would in the NBA.
SI Cover jinx, never fails. Hey but we had Felton are #1 playmaker in D and puts people in great position to score. The Heels will bounce back quite nicely, don't worry about it Heels fans
What a joke. The same team that goes out and beats UConn, NC State, etc. etc., loses to Santa Clara. Awful. Felton isn't an excuse. I didn't get to see the game, but I don't like Roy's starting lineup at all. I know I'm not in the practices, but how about putting Melvin Scott in for Felton, instead of starting freshman Quentin Thomas? The game isn't the end of the world. The Heels season isn't going to broken because of this game.

Interesting move by Roy. And who is Quentin Thomas? Usually UNC's recruits are all high profile prospects, but I've never heard of this kid.
Nice bouce back win by the Heels! 36 points, that is what I call a blow out, not getting beat by 11. It was the Cougars' worst lose since the 96' season when they went 1-25.
Okay, I'm not ready just yet to bring back all my mean comments about Sean May, but I am thinking about it. He has really lost weight and finally can get up and down the court easily.
