I realise that I may be reigniting an old thread on the usefulness/uselessness of Ostertag to the team, but I just had to ask. Is there any other reason to his lack of minutes, such as still recovering from injury or is it just simply his lack of contribution to the team? If the latter, you have come back and rethink the decision made by the kings stuff. I know Petrie is well known for his abilities, but you have to wonder if there was anybody better to have been picked by the kings instead of Ostertag.
I can suggest a reason... HE SUCKS!!! Why the Maloof's spent some of their free agent money on him is still beyond me.
Ostertag worries me, his lack of mobility and his inability to stay healthy brings serious concerns for this franchise. For Sacramento to be successful, it's my opinion, they need a frontcourt stud coming off their bench. They had one in Keon Clark before losing him to Utah two years ago, and more recently with Vlade Divac before he headed back to LA. This season who does Sacramento have that could even come close to matching the contributions of the two aforementioned players? In the offseason, after the annoucement of Vlade Divac not re-signing, I thought it was a given that Sacramento would be addressing this issue. I myself had my fingers crossed that Sacramento would make a run at Al Harrington after rumors he was on the trading block, but obviously we didn't aquire him or even make an attempt to. This is not smart strategy on Sacramento's part, I personally have serious doubts relying on Webber's health for the entire season. In previous years it wasn't as big of an issue because of their depth, but I can't imagine what The Kings could possibly do if Webber went down yet again this season. Whether it's Peja at Power Foward or starting Ostertag one thing is for certain, either move would make our defense a bigger liability in years past...
Osertag has been a non-factor so far this season. He isn't the player that Petrie thought he would be when he signed him,but maybe he will improve in time, but at this moment,he really can't do much to help the Kings out.he is irrelevant, and more than likely we can do well without him.
Is there some rule or way that he could be released by the kings so that they may pick up another free agent or something similar?

If Ostertag shows signs of improvement this season, than maybe he will get some major time. It's a big maybe, but who knows??
there are a few answers that will cover your question. 1) he is a backup & miller has been pretty solid so far this year. one reason he hasnt played a lot 2) its a game of matchups... you arnt going to put miller in a situation where the offense he is defending against will run circles around him with their leggs tied behind their back. 3) he missed all of training camp & they have publicly (at least on the radio) said that they are working him into the lineup slowly (cant say if that is b/s or not... but there it is) 4) some other reason that has not publicly been stated. perhaps he has tripped over another box & reinjured his hand again...... (see sig)
and at 7'2 he is going to be able to get rebounds, force people to adjust their shots or just get some blocks. as far as a backup goes, he is better than a lot of backups. no one is saying he is a great center that will get you all star performances... but he can do the small things that the Kings need to have done when miller is not out there. he doesnt need to score because we have a lot of scoring options right now & what we really need is defense. any scoring he gives is going to be a bonus in all reality. strictly looking at the reasons he was brought in, he wasnt really all that bad of a signing.
hey... I just found this on sacbee... maybe this is why he was out to such a slow start... he only has one kidney! http://www.sacbee.com/content/sports/baske...-12460018c.html ok, its a good human interest story, Im just kiddin about him being slow because of it...
