How is this incident different than Vernon Maxwell's antics in 1995? He went twelve rows deep to punch a fan that was heckling him all game? He got a 10 game suspension and a $20,000 fine. The League is thinking about suspending him for a year when Sprewell got 68 games for choking his coach and i don't think this incident is worse then that All be shocked he gets suspended more games then 20
They fans punched got what they deserved I thought. If you were innocent, you moved away from the fight, the guilty ran into it.
Max got 15 games but what he did is not anywhere near as bad as what Artest has done. Max didn't go after basically every fan in sight.

And for the record, even If they did deserve it why does that make It right? Artest should be in jail yet he likely won't be because he is an NBA star but you can bet he will get what is coming to him, a 20 game suspension at least.
The point is, the players did wrong. Artest made a cup of beer worth a long suspension, a hefty fine from the league, making his reputation worse than it already is, and the possibility of a couple of lawsuits. If anyone was to beat down the fans, it should be the security and police, having to contain them. That's why they have badges and pepper spray, night sticks and cuffs. The game should've been called immediately after fans were throwing things...and all of the players should've been sent to the locker rooms after the cup-throwing incident...including Artest. AllNet...the quote in your sig caught my eye. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"I get up for everybody.I played my son today in the backyard, and I didn't let him score"</div> He also "gets up" for Piston fans.

Is it right to step on the court to provoke the player? Is it right to throw chairs, popcorn, drinks at players who are leaving? artest lost his temper. but the fans lost their sanity.
Yanix, you're right, also...you can ask the same thing. What makes it right for the fans to do what they did? What makes it right for the players? BOTH were wrong, both will more than likely be punished, whether it's suspensions or jail time.

The point is, the players did nothing wrong. Wallace made a flagrant foul (at best) a big stadium fight, a hefty fine from the league, and in the process hurt alot of people physically and financially. The game DID get called immediately after the fans were throwing things... and what the hell did you think they were trying to do after that? They were trying to send everybody to the locker room... Are you watching the same clips I am?

I'm glad there are going to be suspensions and fines, and I hope the fans find themselves in jail. It's embarassing to see NBA players acting like this, and NBA fans acting like this. Nobody can sit here and say that these guys shouldn't be suspended, and that the fans shouldn't be in jail...because they all should be in trouble.
The players that involved themselves were wrong. However, fans of all sports have seemed to slowly become more rebellious and rowdy, inciting confrontations. Take for example the MLB. Last year, a fan threw a bottle at right fielder Milton Bradley of the LA Dodgers, and during the 2003 playoffs between the Yankees and the Red Sox, when fans started a fight behind the bullpen area. These fans seem to think that since they purchased tickets for x amounts of money, they can do whatever they want. I understand sporting events are supposed to be safe for spectators, but then spectators become active and disruptive by throwing and punching people, there is just no excuse for that kind of behavior.
