Just reported 5 minutes ago by Jim Gray on ESPNEWS:

Ben Wallace called Ron Artest and apologized for what happened and Big Ben said he feels bad that now everyone is going after Artest and blaming him entirely for what happened last night.

That's good that he apologized, but it's not going to change anything that happened in yesterday's game...

seriously, good move by Wallace. But he'll still get the suspension he deserves.

BEN Wallace reaffirmed my belief in him. Kudos to ben wallace for the apology and rasheed wallace for trying to pacify the melee last night.

Good hopefully this situation will clear up and we can stop ranting on it. At least he realized his mistake. Ben Wallace has redeemed my respect.

Now I know why he overreacted and shoved Artest in the face: It's because he was supposedly robbed of last year's Defensive award. Anyways, Ben did the right thing.
I hope the NBA shows sympathy for Artest and gives him less amount of suspended games.

It's cool of Ben to do that he's actually a gentle giant... frustration happens here and there... the coolest thing that happened in the fight last night was I think those two teams, who initially fought against each other, eventually teamed up to fight off the fans. Unity rocks!

Good Guy Ben. I feel good about that. I still dont like the fans in Detroit who were there though. They acted like a MOB.

The fans were out of control but Big Ben started it when his emotions ran high but that happens to everyone. He's the only Piston I actually like. Something needs to be done about the fans though.

u know what ron artest is seriously disturbed, he doesn't rationalize like an adult. i don't think he has an understanding of consequence, remember when he got in altercation with coach riley and said both of them were just being competitors? also, there was a published story in his rookie season by sam smith of the chicago tribune that he applied for a job at "best buy" cause he spent all his 1.7 million on his friends.

Very gracious move by Ben. That is a true man. I respect him for that, but I still think that his shove was uncalled for, it wasnt a hard foul. I hope Artest was man enough to accept it and apologize back.

i agree. i've seen countless number of posts about how Artest is a "man" because he didn't take crap from anyone. that's BS. anyone can lose their temper and snap. that's not being a man.

ben showed what it takes to be a real man.

It takes a bigger person to correct their mistakes that it takes to make them.

Ben showed a good example of proper behavior of an NBA player.

Smart move by Ben. He's probably counting on the league to take notice and reduce his suspension.
