Raiders sign Jordan ALAMEDA, Calif. - The Oakland Raiders finalized a five-year, $27.5 million contract with free-agent running back LaMont Jordan on Friday to boost their ineffective ground game. Advertisment Jordan's agent, Alvin Keels, said Jordan will receive $11 million in guaranteed money and $17.8 million over the first three years of the contract, including $15.7 million in bonuses. The Raiders confirmed they'd signed the 26-year-old Jordan, another move by the team to add young talent to an already youthful offense. "I'm excited about the opportunity," Jordan said in a statement. "I've played out here in Oakland a couple of times and it's actually my favorite stadium to play in, so I'm really looking forward to getting this ball rolling and hopefully being a big piece to us accomplishing our goals." Jordan arrived in town Wednesday to meet with the team, then signed his contract Thursday morning. Jordan, who spent his first four seasons with the New York Jets, carried 93 times for 479 yards and two touchdowns last season and also made 15 catches for 112 yards. "He's excited about the opportunity to come in and be able to contribute on a team that he feels has the ability to get to the Super Bowl," Keels said. "He wants to be an important piece of that puzzle." The Raiders are determined to revive their running game, and Jordan has been waiting to become a full-time back after playing behind Curtis Martin all his career. Jordan has a career average of 4.9 yards per carry. Oakland rushed for only 1,295 yards on 328 carries last year. Each week, coach Norv Turner said he was committed to improving the Raiders' production on the ground, but they continued to struggle. "We're thrilled to have LaMont Jordan as a member of the Oakland Raider organization," Turner said. "(Offensive coordinator) Jimmy Raye coached LaMont in New York, so we know a lot about him. We know the type of work ethic, the type of ability he brings. We're excited to have him and we believe he's going to be a premier runner for our organization." Finding a talented running back was one of the club's top priorities this offseason. Amos Zereoue was the team's most productive running back during the Raiders' 5-11 season, getting 425 yards on 112 carries with three TDs -- fewer yards than Jordan produced as Martin's backup. Tyrone Wheatley, second behind Zereoue, was released Wednesday, the same day the Raiders introduced star receiver Randy Moss. I cannot believe that they gave that much money to a guy that has never started a full season.
He should do well. He will never see a 8 man front, since other teams will have to keep 2 safeties deep with moss and porter on the outside.
i really dont think he is a risk, watching the Jets games you were always happy to see Jordan come in and take over for a quarter letting Martin getting a rest. He can be dominating and has been in Martin's shadow for 4 seasons. He will get at least 1000 yards guarenteed. He will be a great back for them. I wanted the Jets to sign him badly but you cant hold a guy like that back.
Raiders are going to have decent offense this year by the looks of things. Which should be a nice improvement from last season. I can see Jordan doing pretty good for them.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (TheBeef)</div><div class='quotemain'>300 carries, 1500 yards....</div> That is for best, moss probably will need to take off 300 plays at some point.
I'm still trying to figure out who the Raiders' QB is going to be this year... Gannon? Collins? Someone else?
I missed posting, but now with a new PC I might be more onboard... Jordan with Moss adds lot to the offense. Collins is hte guy to throw downfield and outside. If Jordon stays healthy, the "D" can't cheat nearly as much. If the "D" can't cheat, the outside receivers wont be as tightly covered... It all makes sense. Will it work? Can't say just yet. Is it a good idea? I would think that SD, DEN, and KC are crapping their pants right about now. I'm not sold on Moss making the thing happen, but once they signed Moss, I was seen singing the praises of certain power runner named Jordan.
