I really like what Saban is doing with our team. We may see a totally different defense next season, hopefully a lot better. How does this look? We look through our list of players and find out who has a high salary cap or who we DONT need and could easily replace, like: David Boston, Sammy Morris, Rob Konrad, Brian Gilmore, Damien McIntosh, Rex Hadnot, Jeff Zgonina, Romero, Eddie Moore, Pat Surtain, Sammy Knight and Arturo Freeman are not expected back next year...Junior Seau is getting old and Olindo Mare can be cut and replaced too...so we cut them or trade them for draft picks, save loads and sign YOUNG players who are proven good, like: Chike Okeafor, Marques Douglas, Matt Stewart, Kennoy Kennedy, Steve Hutchinson, Victor Riley, Gus Frerrote. Then in the draft, we take Ronnie Brown, draft down and take Alex Barron, our next pick can be Ernest Shazor, then pickup in our final round, Mike Nugent to Kick. Thats almost like a brand new team full of proven YOUNG good players who can get us in the playoffs next year...and for a cheaper price. What do you think??
Sounds like a good idea in theory, but it looks a lot like Daniel Snyder. I don't know what the contracts are for all these guys, but if they are not free agents, you'd have to look at what the cap hit is to cut all these guys. Very few are worth any trades. While maybe a good idea for a backup, Gus Frerrote is not young. There's also a pretty good price tag for young, proven players. They are very expensive. Surtain is not over-the-hill and could qualify as one of these people yet.
Alot of the Dolphins you mentioned have very low cap numbers or are better than the other players you want to bring in.... Heres how its going down: Seau has restructered, he stays at a lower cap number....Mare has been assured that the job is his if he will restructure....Surtain is only being talked about becuase he has good trade value, if they dont get a decent offer, they will keep him....Boston doesnt want to restructure, so he may get cut soon.....Konrad has some trade value, so he may get dealt for a low pick, if not, they will release him....Macontosh has agreed to restrutre and the Dolphins have agreed not to bring in a LT high in the draft.....Gilmore, Hadnot, and Moore are young cheap and very promising, especially Eddie Moore, no way they get rid of them....almost none of the guys you mentioned to bring in are all that young....Hutchinson and Douglas would be really expensive and I dont think Hutch is a free agent.....Kennedy is possible, but there is a lot of competition for his services, that drives the price a bit.....Stewart and Frerotte are likely at this point....Ronnie Brown in the 1st round is what Im expecting, but theres no way they get Alex Barron too, hes going high and they dont have the ammo to climb back up....Nugent will be gone in the 3rd round, no way you get him later than that.....It all sounds great, but very little of it is practical and almost none of it will happen....expect Saban to sign 5-10 young guys that can contribute some and be coached, if a few of those guys turn out to be diamonds in the rough that just needed to be coached up, than you get some serious bargains....
