I hear a lot of people in the sports industry worried about the aftermath of the NBA Brawl. The NBA has done a great job of cleaning up its image and making it a family outing. Has this incident changed your opinion on the NBA? And how?
Well, I live in a country of hockey and soccer, and violence at games is no suprise to me. Infact, the first time I saw a NBA basketball game I was wondering why they had people sitting so close to the court. Now that I saw the video of it (in swedish TV, which shows you just how big this is) I saw the drawback of having so much people close to the court with no real security. My opinion of the NBA hasnt changed, just my opinion about how they should fix the fans-near-court problem, and my opinion about some of the players. NBA players, being as big as they are, obviusly have a naturaly high testosterone level, and now it has shown its danger.
The only way my opinion has changed is it sort of highlights security concerns at games and concerns about access between the fans and players. My opinion towards the players aren't any different.
My opinion hasn't changed at all. I hate those people who start crying and talking about "I'm done watching basketball, because of this". Basketball is a great game, it's above all that shit, and a shitty security at an arena is the last thing that will change my mind on the NBA and NBA basketball.
The only view on NBA that has changed for me is that our commisioner is a biased idiot. I used to think he's bad but not that bad, but this changed it all.
My opinion hasn`t changed. I now see however that players and fans must be seperated in games because you never no if something will go wrong.
Yes mine has; 1.I know longer like Stern.. 2.I absolutley DESPISE Ben Wallace... 3.If Artest retires, i will never watch an NBA game again... 4.DAVID STERN YOU MORON..

Was suspending your three best players for punching people wrong? No, it wasn't. Their punishment was fair and just. None of this would have happened if Artest wouldn't have lost his temper over the cup throwing incident, none of it. Now, has my thoughts changed. No. I still love the sport, despite this hellacious mess. I'm glad to see how quickly Stern acted upon this and what he did, showing me he's not afraid to suspend players to lengthy sentences, even stars like Artest and O' Neal. I believe what he did was right and justified. So, overall, my opinion has not changed on the NBA really.

my opinion on the nba remains steadfast. to me, this is the best and most watchable sport in the world, so even if a big scuffle like the pacer/pistons one broke out, i still will continue to support the nba. if u are a true fan, u would continue enjoying bball despite all the recent ruckus.
no it hasn't although i do disagree with the length of the suspensions, particularly in regards to Artest :thumbsdow
Even though one could make a case that Jackson should have gotten a longer punishment and that Artest's suspension was a bit harsh, I think David Stern handled the situation to the best of his ability and has a new respect in my eyes. What happened Friday Night was a wake up call for basketball. This situation was bound to happen eventually where players and fans had a huge altercation. It just so-happened to be Friday Night. I think that David Stern had to send a crystal clear message to the players that they under no circumstances are allowed to go into the stands. His suspensions that he handed out would set a precedent for all future acts of players vs. fans. I mean he had to send a clear message and he did. Even though I think they were a bit harsh, David Stern did what was the best for the NBA, so for that I applaud him.
Yes, Stern has taken back the NBA and put it back on the right course for continued development. Players should never leave the floor. That message is clear. Remember, no player was ever physically threatened (before going into the crowd.) Yet somehow you have Artest and Jackson throwing sucker punches to defenseless people. The NBA is still an amazing game in person when you have great seats.

It's a sport, I'll watch it because I love it. Violence happens in sports all the time. All of a sudden when such a brawl happens in the NBA, the whole world freezes? I understand that going after fans is wrong but you can't just say it's not the fan's fault neither. If he had not thrown the beer at Artest, none of this would have happened. People need to get a grip. They're saying "oh the NBA is going lose their fan base." Fan base? Either you're a hardcore fan or you're a bandwagoner. It's one or the other. Casual fans are usually bandwagoners. They know only of the major superstars and no one else. So I guess this would really influence the "casual" fans and thier outlook on this sport. On top of that, you got those know it all analysts who think they know how all this is a "black eye for the NBA". Case in point: If you're a true fan, you'll continue to watch the game no matter watch cause the positives will always overshadow the negatives. When Michael Jordan retired for the 2nd time, all the analysts thought the NBA had nothing left in it and all that crap. The NBA did have something left, they had lots of talent left, but to the ignorant and casual fans who couldn't see an image of the NBA past Michael Jordan just stopped watching cause he stopped playing. Those are not true fans. If your view of the NBA changed just cause of one sequence of events, then you didn't know much about the NBA in the first place. I'm talking about changing your view to the point where you say "I'll never feel the same about the NBA again." People who say that are being extremely naive. This situation is being over-blown and over-scrutinized much like the Kobe Bryant case was. The moment I saw Jim Gray and his quivering voice reporting the incident on ESPN, all I thought was "here we go again."
No it hasn't changed my opinon on the NBA at all. I've always thought of the NBA as just another sport,so a fight happened. This won't change my mind at all of being a fan,the only concern i have is what new procedures for security will occur if it does happen, but other than that..I Still enjoy the NBA
It hasn't changed my opinion of the game. The game is a constant. It changed how I view the league. I thought Ben Wallace had more self-control than that. It also shows how Stern's decisions are based on the media and public.
^Ha, ha I concur. It's kinda surprising to see it finally happen like it does in other sports. But my opinion of the game hasn't changed at all either. I won't be able to see any games in person anyways and if I had the chance to I'd probaly be seated way up. But yeah, the only problem is that to focus goes off games that are being played of course. Just getting a tad tired of seeing the fights a million times a day. Just a tad.
No, except for the security in games that needs to be tightened... as you see I'm on the players' side I don't see a change in my opinion of the NBA. Although the commish made the right call to protect the NBA, it is still unfair to the players! Ron DIDN'T THROW A SINGLE PUNCH while he was in the stands. Well, he was about to but other fans and other officials have already grabbed him and his hands he couldn't swing at all. To the commish, Ron Artest is one of his outstanding employees, but he is still expendable as opposed to the millions of fans that basically do not like Artest.
