<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Is John Stockton the greatest point guard of all-time? While there is never a definitive answer to questions like these, its still fun to pour over the accomplishments and stats that the great players obtain. With that being said, Stockton stacks up incredibly well against the other legends of the league, like Bob Cousy, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas and Nate Archibald.

Here is just a sampling of his achievements to give you an idea of just how good he was:

Stockton was voted one of the NBA?s 50 Greatest Players during a career that saw him make 15,806 assists and 3,265 steals, both NBA records. He won two gold medals, one as a member of the original ?Dream Team? at Barcelona in 1992, and in 1996 at Atlanta. Stockton was named all-NBA first team twice, second team six times, and third team 3 times. He was all-defensive second team five times. He was an all-star nine times, including co-MVP once in 1993, when the game was held here at the Delta Center.</div>

The thing that has always surprised me about Stockton is consistancy, he seemed to get better with age. When he enter the league his measurements was 6'1 175, when he retired he was 6'1 175. Anyone to keep their exact playing weight for 19 years is dedicated to the team and the sport. He lead the league in assist for 9 consecutive assist, he also registered 7 season over 1,000 assists. Also something that is amazing, Stockton played 19 years for the same team and every year they made the playoffs. Sure Magic, Cousy, Isiah, and "Tiny" was great, but they has never been and will never be another John Stockton.

He's definetly up there, IMO he was the best, NBATV was talking about Stockton and they said he was to PGs what Dan Marino was to QBs.

That is a very good comparision, both are my favorites of all-time at their respective positions. If you look at their records, Marino's TD passes and Stockton's Assist record are similar. Both was more of a team-first type of players and no one really ever doubted either of their heart. Also, they both made their sports championship respective game, Marino only once, Stockton twice. Both of them was one really one key guy from their team from winning a championship. Also when you talk about greatest QB's of all-time, you get Marino, Unitias, Montana; when you talk greatest PG's, you get Stockton, Magic, Cousy. Erree similar.

I would say greatest PG of all time. He was the purest ideal model of one. He was an <u>EXCELLENT</u> passer (yes it was nessecary for all of that on excellent) He didn't care about his points he just cared about getting the whole tam involved. He still distributed the ball evenly throughout everyone on the team. I love Isiah, Magic and all the other PG greats but, John Stockton was the greatest. The only reason why he didn't have a ring is because of Jordan. One can't argue about the fact if Jordan had never existed at that time period, he would have atleast one championship. As a young PG myself I look at Stockton as a role model and one day wish to lead a team the way he did. I'm not the slightest bit shocked his #12 jersey will be hanging at the Delta Center in honor of the greatest and maybe forever the greatest PG in basketball John Houston Stockton!

I'll say that Magic was the best, but John Stockton is my favorite because of his competitiveness and approach to the game.

Are you crazy? Jason Kidd won't beat his record.Kidd would be lucky to get Magic's record,he has 6700+ assists in 11 seasons,he has 6/7 years at most left in him.He would have to average like 14-17 assists in them and play all 82 games to beat John's record.

John is the best half-court PG,Magic is the best fast break PG.
If it comes to a pure PG then I would take John cause he didn't score so much as Magic (pure pg has a pass first mentality) [IMG]

Yeah, he was one tough fighter. He knew how to play and he knew how to just plain play, I mean he went all out; small stature and all sacrificing it all for the greater good of the team. From a baller's point of view; now that's a role model.

As for what Martin said. Magic may not be seen as the purest; but he can be seen as the best as well. He had 'versatility' as well as the showmanship that could possibly only be done by a PG. Also about his scoring mentality? He had a double assists as an average per game; he prefers passing if you ask me. And although Stock scored less; he shot well; especially with the long range buckets so he was a scorer too. All about Stock and The Mailman.
