Jamison: "Vince is not enjoying what he is doing at all http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/artic...-2004Nov22.html <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">When Washington Wizards seventh-year forward Antawn Jamison was a rookie at Golden State struggling with his confidence and his limited role on the team, friend and former North Carolina teammate Vince Carter was his sounding board. Nearly every day, Carter would be on the other end of the phone helping Jamison through his difficult times with advice and encouraging words. Six years later, Jamison and Carter have reversed roles. "We've been talking every day and I've been listening," Jamison said. "My main thing is that he has to enjoy what he's doing. Because now, he's not enjoying it at all. You can just see it." </div> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"I've kind of been through the exact things he's going through," said Jamison, who was traded for Carter the night they were drafted in 1998. "I told him, even though you may not be happy, it's part of the job. Go out there and have fun. When you're not having fun playing the game, it's not worth it -- all the money, the perks that comes with it. You have to enjoy what you do." </div> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"I told him, you might be there all year, try to make a difference and go out there and have fun," Jamison said. "It's the game of basketball. You're supposed to have fun with it. If you're not having fun, you're coming in like, 'It's another day of practice, let me get in and get out.' You're not really accomplishing anything. I'm going to do everything possible [tonight] to make it fun for him."</div> Well...Discuss
its good to know that vince's sounding board is a dude that has been traded twice in six years and is finally happy on a borderline playoff team in the eastern conference. i know jamison and carter were a bunch of jokers in college where they never won a national championship in spite of all the talent at carolina.
Thank god Vince has someone other than his "yes" men and his mother giving him advice. Jamison is totally right in the way that Vince just is not having fun playing the game anymore. You can see it in his game night in and night out. I hope Vince takes his advice to heart and just plays the game for fun.
Hopefully Jamison could help Carter out... sounds weird when they are on different teams and such, and Purple Fever, who is this Hook guy? whats his real full name?
Hook Mitchell, he's old now, was hooked on caine, went to jail, and came out like last year and is doing stuff to help the community now, he was 5'11 I think and was a mad dunker and would be in the NBA if he wasn't on caine.
It seems as if all the enthusiasm that Carter released earlier on in his career has evaporated. I can't remember the last time I've seen him pumped up to play. I remember when the Raptors played the Knicks in the playoffs (those were the days) he seemed to be bursting with energy. That level of energy has been dropping over the years, it's pretty sad to see it happen.
IT WAS ALL JYD ... JYD got VC pumped up... now he's gone.. and no one there to fill the energy JYD use to fill...
i have been patiently reading the posts and as a raptor fan and VC fan try to analyze his state of mind..... i mean as a player matures in both mind and body its the natural evolution not to be as aggressive to the net (and i'm looking at the trend with dominique, jordan, etc)...but VC should be still in his prime and attacking the net in that aggressive way... look a kobe, steve francis, and even the new stars, 'melo, lebron, wade...and so many more high flying ball players, they all attack the net... VC knows that it's his explosivness to the net that was his claim to fame, personally he is not a fault for wanting to round his game out and be a threat from the paremater, but to say that he will not dunk again so if he's on a open break to the net, what will he do...a lay up?...it just doesn't make sense, and it may relate to what jamison said, he is just not fired up playing ball... makes you wonder, you have a coach who's whole game plan is to have an up tempo offence, yet VC seems to want to do the opposite...let's hope 'dr funk' gets out of this 'funk'
Remember the reverse windmill between two defenders, or the windmill underneath Olawakandi, or even last year the up under up dunk. Come on VInce i know u still got game, cuz just last march you averaged 27ppg,6rpg,5apg. Those were damme good numbers.
Give it up people, he's never gonna be the same Vince he was. I doubt that even a trade can change his attitude. I waited for him to get back to the way he was for 2 years now and I just had to accept the fact that he'll never change.
Despite the bad season that he had last year, this current season makes Vince look like Michael Jordan last year. Even though he might not have been happy last year, he was still willing to come out every night and play his night. This year, it seems that nothing will motivate him. I don't think anyone is to blame here but himself; although he tries to put the blame on the coaching and player changes.
when vince plays..it looks like he is still not awake ....he just wonders around shooting up wild jumpshots and on defense just stands around
He's actually not been too bad on defense with the exception of the Portland game, he was very active against the Spurs defensively, and that's also how he picked up his steals, and against the Sonics both times he was pretty good on defense.
VInce just looks, unmotivated. Maybe it was JYD, but I doubt it. THe team has changed alot, and so has he. Vince has gotta bite the bullet and still try his hardest. To have fun he's gotta try hard too. I still think Vince can make alot better out of this year and make some stuff happen. But recently(especially after that...stupid "no dunking comment") that confidence has been waning.
