I really have to say, after reluctantly putting my faith in Jason Richardson for 3 years, I've just about had it. He's the best athlete on the team, and also the worst basketball player. He has the body for it, but I'm not convinced he understands the game. I can hardly count the times in the past 11 games that he's dribbled into three defenders in the paint and tried to flail the ball into the basket. His ballhandling, even if imporved over last year, is still pretty lousy. Tonight, against New Orleans, he's firing away when he's 0-for-9, losing a dribble off his leg, looking completely oblivious all the while. It kills me to think of what we're paying him when we have a guy like Pietrus behind him who plays elite defense, has an underrated offense, and doesn't mishandle the ball. Quite frankly, I find Richardson's whining that he wants to be the go-to guy laughable. He's had any number of chances. Last year he won a game against Minnesota. This year he sent the Dallas game to overtime, but it was on a ridiculous shot that, truth be told, he had no business taking, and probably shouldn't have gone in. If he wants to be Mr. Clutch, maybe he should try to sharpen his rather dull awareness.
He tries to do too much is the problem. He needs to let the game come to him. And he does make some incredible passes you know. I think he's an underrated passer actually. He played some good D this time around, but I agree I'm as impatient with him as Dunleavy only I see Richardson making more shots when it counts over double teams and scoring while playing against the other team's toughest backcourt player. Jrich commands that respect, Dunleavy doesn't. I'm all for Pietrus, he looks solid in terms of his movement on defense and his open court offensive play looks better than Jrich. He's got some handles and he's not afraid to split two defenders.
JRich still plays horrible defense. The guy shades Wesley to the right? What is that? Same as before. He hit that spin move in the lane in the 3rd OT, that's the type of shot he is made for. Instead, he's shooting jumpers from the perimeter. JRich is someone who does not dog it and plays hard every minute he's out there, yes; but he's got to understand his limitations. Its gotten to the point now where at the end of the game the Warriors are forcing into JRich to create despite his failure to do anything to justify it. Sad. On the bright side, I got my firm's tickets and am bringing my 5 yr. old son to his first game on Friday!!! Watch, Dunleavy 20/15/6.
J-Rich does need a lot of improvement, although late last season he showed a lot of promise. I think I agree that he's trying to hard now and doing too much, but hopefully if he can listen and comprehend the lessons Montgomery is hopefully imparting on him, he'll become a smarter veteran. And as for phil, I hope you enjoy the game! I remember my first game as a kid, it was the first time I saw that many people in one enclosed space, so I was a bit scared, but it was a blast. Maybe because I was hopped up on all that food.

If that Dunleavy clutch 3 can get him rolling towards 20 points a game at the small forward position I'll be very happy and take back everything I said about the guy. But it's hard to see that happening. Maybe with Pietrus back we can have Dunleavy play some point guard beause he looks great passing the ball and handling it.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Casske:</div><div class="quote_post">I really have to say, after reluctantly putting my faith in Jason Richardson for 3 years, I've just about had it. He was forced at times to feel like he had to do something if nobody else was scoring otherwise who could he pass to? Dunleavy? The boy barely sinks .40% of the shots he has that are wide open looks with no around him for several feet. We're lucky we had Cheaney come alive even though he pulled some boneheaded moves himself during that game. All I know is we need to get Jrich lots of offensive help because he isn't the ideal go-to-scorer. I'm sorry he's not good enough to do it alone and we already have too many passers on the floor we don't need a guy who plays defense worse than him and who also passes more than he can score. I hate to say it but we traded Jamison away for nothing only to end up in the same situation (Overpaid players, safe draft picks that never amount to anything). So I think either Jrich needs to go or Jrich and Dunleavy both need to go. This team is such a patchwork quilt at times its getting ridiculous and our defense still hasn't gotten better. I'll take Joe Johnson over Dunleavy any day. Or let's even bring back Brian Cardinal despite the contract. Now that was a guy that knew he was slow but he hustled, played with heart, sank the open J, and he passed well and made his free throws. Oh yeah forgot to add... All that while playing with busted up fingers on his shooting hand. What was Dun Dun's excuse before he made that miraculous 3 point shot.
I have to say, listening to the game, Pietrus was the best player on the court. We need him out there. To me, if I had a choice between two players who score 10pts per game but one of them plays defense, I am going to chose the defensive player. Get Dunleavy off the court and get Pietrus in there for 30 plus minutes.

It's better than being beaten in transition or beaten on the drive. At least we'll have a potential lockdown defender in the starting rotation that can score in transition.
I love Pietrus. Even if he scored 0 points per game I would play him over Dunleavy because of his defense. Every good team has at least 1 great defender. Detroit-Wallace LA-Shaq, Kobe SA-Duncan, Bowen Nets-Martin Pacers-Artest, Oneil We need someone in there. I mean teams are shooting 46% average against us. We need to lower that in order to have more chances at winning. Remember when we played Dun, Jrich, Pietrus, Murphy Damp last year how well we played? We need to do that again...

You know the Nets and the Spurs were teams I respected because every single player in the starting rotation could play defense for the most part. You had Ginobili, Duncan, Bowen, Parker who aren't bad defenders. Kittles, Kidd, Martin, and Jefferson play defense. Detroit had Billups, Prince, Rasheed, Big Ben last year. Also Rip Hamilton improved a lot on the defensive end. He used to be not that great. I guess Larry Brown got him working hard on it and he was willing to improve based on the rest of the team's work ethic.
You are totally right. Maybe it is just that we dont have anyone that can play any defense except for Robinson and Foyle...
I am sorry but i can not agree Kobe is a great defender. The only reason he ever got recognized is he played with Shaq so he constantly could cheat off his guy with the big fella behind him upping his numbers a bit and he got exposure on the lakers. HAve you seen what guards have been doing to this guy? Just the other night Mason lit him up. Without Shaq, kobe is at best Jason Richardson at defense.
Boogielew, I have to say I agree with you. There have been times where I thought, how could this guy be a all defensive first team player? I dont know, maybe when he needs or wants to he can turn it on...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Warriorfansnc93:</div><div class="quote_post">I dont know, maybe when he needs or wants to he can turn it on...</div> He spends so much energy at the offensive end now that he is the #1 and only scoring option that I don't think he has enough in the tank to play tough on the ball defense for 40 minutes. When the Warriors play the Lakers I want to see us attack Kobe constantly, since we have such great depth at the 2.
Yes let's get rid of Jason Richardson. Shoot why not just get rid of everybody on the team then? Maybe we should just forfeit all of our games for the next six years and then come back fresh and new! Now that is a bright future. Arenas wasn't good enough, so we should have gotten Jay Williams. Jamison wasn't good enough so we should trade him for a bunch of crap. Dampier wasn't good enough so lets trade him for crap and sign Fisher and Foyle to big contracts in his replacement. JRich isn't good enough so let's let him go for nothing. I mean yes Jason has holes in his game. But he's the best player we have. If you want to trade him because of poor management then I just hope you notice the recent trends that have occured since the Warriors have done this(Dunleavy starting, Musselman being fired, L8, NVE, Foyle, Fisher, Popeye Jones, Eschmeyer, etc known as crap). If you REALLY want things to change go try to get Chirs Cohan to sell the team. Getting rid of Jason isn't doing anything. I will say at least Jason makes plays. You can't say that about the majority of the players on the team such as Dunleavy and Foyle. Now if you want to come here with an idea about how to get rid of JRich and bring in a good player that will help more than JRich, then I am all ears. But if not there's no point ripping him when he's the only one making plays on the court. And if you want to rip someone go ahead and rip Cohan all you want. I have no problem with that. Everyone has known that JRich has holes in his game for a long time. But I don't mind it too much if he's leading this team scoring 28 points getting 12 boards, dishing 7 assists with only one turnover. Jason is the only one who even tries to get the post players involved, so, whatever you want to think about Jason I suppose...
It really doesn't matter. He is not going anywhere this season because he signed a new extension, and it's most likely that he won't go anywhere next year either, since he will be first year BYC. In other word, get used to it...
I have been very disappointed with Jrich so far this season to say the least. After last season I really believed that he could be a true leader and go to guy on this team. He has just been horid this season and I'm tired of waiting for him to develope into this "star" we have all been waiting for. We got Pietrus, send jrich's ass outta here.

He has just been horid this season and I'm tired of waiting for him to develope into this "star" we have all been waiting for. We got Pietrus, send jrich's ass outta here. Jason did start the season off a little shakey his first few games into the regular season, even after a good preseason. I think a lot of it had to do with him trying to fit into the offense along with trying to do too much after his big contract extention. I think it took some time before Montgomery and JRich got things going, even though I think they can still make things better, such as why not post up JRich against Wesley more? But in Jason's last five games, even though the competition hasn't been the best, Jason has averaged 24 points, 6.6 boards, 4.6 assists, 2.8 turnovers, and shot 43% from the field. I believe if he can get some help offensivly from the coach and from the other players so that he can get to the hoop easier, then I think he can maintain this pretty much throughout the season. But if he still has to try to score by having to go through 5 defenders, and if Jason has to keep working in the uneffective half-court set rather than the open court, then I guess we'll just have to watch Jason average 18 points on 40 or less percent shooting and look real ugly sometimes. Basically Jason is playing with players that don't make him better and a system that doesn't make him better. You bring a Nash or Kidd over though, and Jason is an all-star or at least an all-star contender, who might get some extra votes due to his dunking ability. And we might as well take everyone out and just play Pietrus, if you are tired of waiting for players to develop or arrive. Maybe we should just send a lineup of Fisher, Cheaney, Pietrus, Clifford, and Dale Davis if that's the problem. No more worrying about having to watch players struggle as they "develop".
