I was skimming through the Baltimore Sun, when I came across this article. This is the exact article.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Carmelo Anthony: The surveillance videotape used in an attempt to alledgedly extort $3 million from Denver Nuggets Guard Carmelo Anthony(Towson Catholic) shows the star beating up his girlfriend's ex-fiance "pretty severely" according to an attorney of oone of the men.
"There really is a tape," said defense attorney Larry Bronson, who represented New Jersey attorney Rodrigo sanchez in Manhattan criminal Court yesterday for his role in the alledged shake down of Anthony. Two others also were charged in the plot and arraigned. Bronson said the tape was "of a fight where [Anthony] beat up one of the other individuals pretty severley"</div>

I wonder how much Carmelo realizes the importance of keeping a good reputation if you're a superstar. The pot incident, bar fight, t-shirt/political statement, etc...it could be all downhill from this point on.

Im really getting sick of Melo's off the court problems these days its something new every week, and it is getting annoying. I never liked Melo from the beginning, but I think after the playoffs last season he has become way to arrogent in the way he carries himself.

His reputation is slowly but surley being soiled. I'm tired of hearing about Melo doing this or that, just let the man play the game. I am not saying that some of the things he does are wrong because they are. People just need to leave him alone, let him play the game.

I feel that Carmelo has to realize that everybody is looking at him and that if he keeps doing stuff like this, it will keep being put out into the public. His image is slowly going downhill.

This shouldnt tarnish his image. And if you like him less for this your an ignorant person. Carmelo didnt do anything wrong. A "fan" was trying to extort money out of melo. Carmelo did the right thing here. He showed us how much hes matured by going to the police and letting them handle this one. Instead of reacting like he may have before he did the mature thing and let the authorities do their job. The police set up a sting operation and right now that mans sitting in jail and faces charges of, Grand Larceny, and criminal possesion of stolen goods.Stop hating.

Im not hating boogieman470 believe me. I love Carmelo's game on the court, but off the court he is having some issues. Yes he did the right thing by going to the police, but if there wasn't a tape "of a fight where [Anthony] beat up one of the other individuals pretty severley", then he wouldn't be in this situation. And when exactly did Carmelo mature? In between the drug possesion charge and the NYC bar fight? All I am saying is that he needs to think more about his off the court actions.

I thought Melo was a high character guy but, obviously he has a lot of issues. Man everyone was looking at him so positively untill this. NBA players these days are killing the league.

Has anyone noticed how Lebron James isnt bein bothered but Carmelo is? Every single move made by Melo is publicized while everyone else just praises Lebron...Lebron and Melo are two innocent individuals with clean slates...Melo is in no trouble he just is ALWAYS in the wrong place at the wrong time...

Melo isn't the same. He needs to stay out of trouble for about a week. He has a terrible reputation among all my friends and family. Nobody will take him seriously if he keeps this up.

Being in the wrong place at the wrong time is trouble when there is such a magnifying glass on you like there is on Carmelo. Anything that happens will be put out into the public. Also, I don't think that being a part "of a fight where [Anthony] beat up one of the other individuals pretty severley" or getting in a fight at a nightclub in NYC is being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The drug charge maybe, but everything else is on him.

You don't see Lebron getting into fights in NYC Clubs do you?

I'm getting tired of hearing Melo getting blamed for Club fight. If anybody wouldn't have done what he did, then that person is probably a wussy.

True, but that comes back to the problem some people are stating about the crowd Melo is hanging out with these days. Its not like every day your at a club someone spits in your girl friends face. I would not blame Melo for that fight although it did tarnsih his rep a little, but the back pack thing that is a different story.

Anyone defending Melo in this instance is off base. Am I the only one who realizes that he's just a younger version of Artest? The only difference between the two is that Melo does his stupid stuff off the court.

Melo needs counseling just as much as Artest does, I have a serious problem with this kid. Please don't compare him to Lebron, not only is he not as good, but he's not as intelligent. Stay in school kids.....

You would think that having the chance to play under a championship coach would be a chance to learn something, but instead he complained about it. You would think that being a star would make one smart enough to not hold weed for your friends (even though I don't believe that story). Lastly, you would think/hope that people would be smart enough to not complain about election results when they choose not to vote.

I guess filming all of those corny jumpan23 commercials has taken a toll on the kid's sanity.

Melo's rep has gotten pretty messed up in just one summer. They were talking about what a great kid he is, his name "Melo" really describes and all that. But, I guess his true colors are showing. Like what Jurassic said he might even be another version of Artest who knows maybe even worse. I don't remember Artest getting into this much trouble as a rookie.

You see, as a professional athlete, you have to look at things differently. You have to know that everything you do will come out to the public. So even if someone spits in your girls face you gotta think, "Ok, if i mess this guy up, its gonna end up getting to the media." The club fight may not have been Melo's fault, but he was involved in it.
