Ever since the brawl, there has been just such an incredible amount of negative press about the NBA and all of it's players, so I figured we could use this thread to discuss some of the GOOD GUYS in the NBA.

The most recent one, Richard Jefferson buying a handicapped 5 year old girl a necessary wheel chair that costs $20,000.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- While Richard Jefferson may be a multimillionaire NBA player, the New Jersey Nets forward has not forgotten the lessons taught by his missionary parents.

A couple of hours before a much-publicized brawl gave the NBA a black eye last week, Jefferson quietly showed the charitable side of the league's players.

After reading about a 5-year-old girl with disabilities whose wheelchair had been destroyed during a school field trip, Jefferson offered to replace the vital chair, which could cost as much as $20,000.

"Everyday I look at it that we are blessed, not only to be doing what we are doing but just to be healthy," Jefferson said earlier this week. "Zo (kidney recipient and teammate Alonzo Mourning) is a constant reminder of that and that little girl is another reminder of that." </div>

Its good to hear news like that, cuz I really dont hearing news on the fight anymore. I also heard that the money the players lost in their suspensions is going to charity. They dont need all that money, theyll live.

Indeed. You have to love stories like that about players doing something other then getting arrested.

Wow i didnt know that about Vince. That is really great that he did that.

I always knew RJ was a good man. You can tell by just looking at him. You wont find him fighting in an bar or having a gun in car. Thats a perfect example of a true gentleman. On the court and off the court

KG promised a woman in Chicago that he would come back once he makes it and take care of her troubled grandson. KG adopted that kid, not to mention he also is the legal guardian of his younger sister. http://www.nba.com/features/hoop_kg_040219.html

Well members from the magic team such as Jameeer Nelson donated and helped hand out turkeys to over 800 families during Thanksgiving. This is something a lot of players and teams due every year. Steve Francis also has his annual charity game in Houston. I like it when players do not have to do a charity, but choose to do it. A few years ago there was a clause in every Magic players contract that said they had to do at least one charity a year.

Allen Iverson has that big baseball game for a charity during the summer that raises tons of money. Aaron McKie also has that big Thanksgiving turkey drive. It`s good to see NBA players giving back instead of being very selfish.

Very good article. Whenever somebody donates something, you really make a diffrence.
I like the title too, "The Big Assist".

The Kevin Garnett story is awesome. I never knew he had adopted kids. What a good guy. I always thought KG was a great guy and this just proves it.

I agree with Magicfan, before I read the article I just viewed KG as a normal NBA superstar. Now I really respect him for the things he did to adopt the kids.

It's nice to hear about what nice things these guys have done. Rip Hamilton is joining in on it too. On November 18, Rip held his own thanksgiving feast for 900 less-fortunate people at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit, and has been very involved in the community, encouraging children to read, and it worked. One school that he went to had a severe increase in meap teasting scores, in the reading section, and the kids said because Rip said he reads and is encouraging them, they never stop reading and want to be jus like him. Awww that is so sweet.
