<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">TORONTO (CP) - Amid an increasing backlash from fans over his requests for a trade, Toronto Raptors superstar Vince Carter made what may be his last charitable mark on the city Thursday as he officially donated a $100,000 playground to a crime-ridden east-end community.

The state-of-the-art structure, called the Vince Carter Embassy of Hope Playground, is in Wickson Trail Park in the Malvern area, which has been plagued with gang-related violence.

''Being that it's going to be guarded by police ... it'll give (the kids) a safe place to play and enjoy life,'' Carter, 27, said in an interview after the ceremony.</div>

why does he have to make every charitable donation a public event? i'm starting to doubt his intentions these days.

I don't know any other way... I mean if there was nothing in that area and then suddenly there is a nice playground, wouldn't you be like "Where the heck did that come from?" One way or another, reporters and journalists are going to find out who started the project.

coach clemons is much more active in the community and tv cameras don't follow him around.

Yea, but that's Mike Clemons, not Vince Carter. Mike might have got more publicity with the Grey Cup win but he's nowhere close to how reporters and cameras follow Vince around everywhere.

btw, do any of u find vince fascinating? he bores me, i really would like the raptor beat writers to do more stories on coach mitchell, rafer and jalen. those aforementioned dudes fascinate me, i would like to see more coverage of them.

^ same, I don't even know why reporters bother to ask Vince any questions any more. All they will get in response are generic answers or his famous "no comment". Rafer or Jalen would probably be much more interesting stories.

I hate to say it but I almost miss Oakley being on the team just for the hilarious things he would say to reporters.

Hate to break it to ya but Vince is one of the most popular players in the league. The media loves following him around because hes so popular and because of the trade talks. The man just donated lots of money. So forget about his "intentions" because yall dont have any idea whats going on in his life. He has been donating money for a long time and its not like this is something new. Such haters...geez...

What's with the hate, their's nothing Vince can do that the media won't know about, it's like Shaq doing something in Miami and no one knowing about it, man, the guy does something good and people still hate, dissapointed.

Anyways, I think it's a good thing, it's always nice to give to the community, Vince can't do things under the radar unless he's going to wear a mask around or something.

I know some people hate him after the trade request thing, but let it go, jeez, you don't gotta hate. How can you doubt his intentions if he donates $100,000 dollars?

    thanks for the update.... [IMG]

Just because the "media loves him" doesn't make him interesting. And in case you haven't noticed, the media are focusing on his recent struggles with his play and his injuries rather than being enamoured with him as they were a couple years back.
