The thing that you guys are failing to realize is that the player wouldn't necessarily get injured, especially if they know what type of player bowen is. They could avoid the foot (and the injury), but it would mess up their shot.

Like I said earlier, this will affect their shot for the remainder of them game if Bowen is guarding them. They would be conscious of his foot while shooting.

I wouldn't do this tactic if I was playing anyone. I think when you intentionally try and hurt soemone whether it's a cnontact sport or not, it's simply wrong. I heard Bowen say he didn't mean to with Carter. I think that is just dirty. Intentionally injuring someone is dirty. That's just my point of view.

So your saying that it's okay for a defender to step underneath an airborne player and, not only take away the right the player has to come down in their space, but also chance to player of injury? Think about it, is someone is airborne and you place your foot underneath them, what is the chance that they will not be injured by landing on it? So by your right, jumpshooters should kick their legs at Bowen to give them space so he won't do that. But wait, that should be an offensive foul by definition. I've play against schooled teams and I've played on the streets, and in neither of these places is it preached to be okay to do something like that. You do something like that on purpose where I come from, and you'll be thrown off the court, literally.

There's a difference between kicking the legs in a "Nike Air Jordan" to pick up a foul, and "Stay the hell back" kick. [IMG] Actually, you did not answer the question, are you saying that placing yourself under an airborne person is okay. A jumpshooters game is about flow and balance. A good defender can impede these by being in your face before you even receive the ball. And harrassing everything afterward. I've seen alot of players give a good defender (or defensive scheme credit), but when it goes to the point that a person has to feel that they have to fend for their safety, that another story.

What Reggie Miller does about that kicking thing is now being changed to an offensive fouls by the officials. Marbury tried to do it and draw a foul vs. Minnesota and the officials called it and I found out that they are going to be more strict about that call.

imo...its a dirty play to intentionally slide your feet underneath a player while he is in the air taking a jump shot. its a dirty trick and a dirty play. winning at all costs shouldnt include potentially injuring another player

bowen has been accused of being a dirty player before...and by ray allen no less. that tells me something..ray seems like a pretty stand up guy

If a defender threw a punch at his man right after he comes down from his jump shot, it wouldn't necessarily land. He could dodge it. But if that punch is legal and is consistently thrown, it sure as well will effect that guy's shot. So, should the punch be legal?

If Bowen is intentionally sticking out his foot to force his man to have to dodge it to avoid an injury, that's a dirty play. Yeah, those kind of things could happen unintentionaly by an aggressive defender, but then the defender should be aware of where his feet are positioned. The NBA rules should be implemented to PROTECT the basketball players. Ankle injuries are very common, and should be minimized. He should at least get a technical for doing something like that.

Yes, you got my point perfectly. Punches should be legal, as should guns and bow and arrows. But only as long as the bullets/arrows don't actually hit the offensive player. [IMG]

You missed the analogy. A defender has no right to intentionally try to injure a player. You say that he's putting the responsibility on the offensive player to dodge his foot, and so it's ok. That makes about as much sense as saying its ok to throw a punch, because its the other guy's responsibility to dodge it. An NBA player shouldn't have to worry about dodging punches, and an NBA player shouldn't have to worry about dodging defenders who stick out their feet.

If a player takes a swing at another player and misses, he gets thrown out of the game. Even if he expected the other player to be able to dodge his punch, he'll still get thrown out. Just because Bowen might expect his man to dodge his foot, that doesn't make the act ok.
