K i know this sounds a bit stupid but i was just wonderring if we HAVE to be sponsorred to join a college team or we could do a type of tryouts like in high-school, also if there a tryout type thingy then can we go to any college or do we have to be studying something in that college etc???
I think I know what you're talking about but next time word it better. You do not have to have a scholarship to play on a collegiate team. They do have tryouts. Each team has about 7 scholarship players.

Yeah, usually there are a lot of walk-ons on a team, but the usually aren't standout players. You'll have that one guy that plays like a scholorship player...

Even to be a walk-on you have to be super talented. You have to have gained admission to the school, paid for your schooling, and beat out hundreds of other very talented basketball hopefuls. The chances of becoming a walk-on are usually very slim.

I mean, it depends on what team your talking about, but a UNC, has more than that. Right now, they have atleast 10 players on scholarship. You don't HAVE to have a scholorship to be on a D1 team, but the chances of being on the team without it are real, real slim. Those players that walk on are usually very good, and had the opportunity to play somewhere else. You can't just be an average player, and decide to play for a D1 team. Thats what intramural basketball is for.
They actually have 8 scholarship players, Rashad McCants, Ray Felton, Sean May, Melvin Scott, Jawaad Williams, Marvin Williams, Jackie Manuel, and Quentin Thomas. So it is usually between 6 and 10 depending on school's skill ability, NCAA sanction status, financial history, and what level they play on. Like Division II only gets like 3 scholarships.
a guy came into my school (it was a all sport thing i was there for football) and he told us abuot how to get into cooleges its really hard to. the schools only have 8 scolarships(i think that is the most) for all the players (frechmen sophmore etc.) so if ur a jr. and they take ur scholar ship away and give it to a frechman then that person will proabably get the spot(so chances of being a walk on are extremly difficult) and other than that u do need to be passing in school and get a high sat score and you have to take a whole lot of special classes. after that i was like screw college sports lol

I thought Reyshawn Terry and David Noel have scholarships? I think Jesse Holley got a scholarship for football, but it was understood he would play basketball also. Not sure though. There is no way Terry would just come to UNC without a scholarship. He was a top 100 player in high school, even though Roy rarely plays him.
Yes they do quite a few have been drafted, but you have to truly stand out. I believe Scottie Pippen played in D-II. STC I thought Terry's was tooken away by Thomas, but that's just what I heard. And no I don't believe Noel has a scholarship. He came on a football one, but that was tooken away when he decided to play basketball instead.

I went to an open tryout at a Community College around here, and it would surprise you at the talent jump from High School to a Division II Community College. The was guys there who started in high school for four years just trying out to make the team as a walk-on. So if you think about walking on, just remember it is a lot harder than you would think.
