<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">MEMPHIS, Tenn. ? Avery Johnson is the heir apparent. That will become even more evident Tuesday, when he will coach the Mavericks against San Antonio.

Nelson picked Tuesday's game because Johnson is familiar with the Spurs after all the years he spent in San Antonio under Gregg Popovich. Nelson will sit on the bench and serve as the assistant.

I'll give him my opinion and he'll have to make the call," Nelson said. "Just like when he gives me his opinion, I reject some of them. He can reject mine."

Nelson said he intends to give control of the team to Johnson five or six times during the season.

"This is the most fun I've had coaching I can remember," Nelson said. "Just being around Avery, watching him grow... . He's such a great guy along with a great coaching talent. I'm having a ball. The older I get, the more he can do."</div>

Since Johnson knows all the moves that the Spurs could make, this could give us the advantage and bring us to .500 out of our "tough schedule"

Since Nelson thinks that Avery Johnson is going to be the future coach of the Mavericks, how do you Maverick fans feel about Johnson maybe being the next coach of this team?

I cant comment until after the game to see how he manages different situations. But I like the move and will make the players to be more focussed for tonight's game to give Coach Johnson his first victory.

Im upset NO we didnt deserve this win. 22 turnovers they should be ashamed! There is NO excuse for this NONE. 22 turnovers, thats all thats running through my head until Finley comes back. I still love my Mavericks but right now.. im upset with them.

Oh well on to the next game.

lol Well it was worth a try from Dallas. Better luck next time but I agree with dee about the turnovers problem. Dallas is very good at handling the ball.

He wasnt very involved in the first half at all. He must've probably been nervous and it with players making turnovers it made things even tougher for him. It was a tough game to start his coaching career. Maybe they could've chosen an easier team. Nellie seemed to be controlling situation by yelling at players and refs. More eyes will be watching him the next time and he'll certainly be more aware of it. It will be tough to get back if he fails next time as well. He may be a good coach behind the scenes, but he will need to prove it on the court next time.

Seems to me like Nellie doesn't want to coach against the elite teams (first San Antonio, now Minnesota). [IMG]
