Sacramento could use more defensive oriented players, this is obvious, and they would also benefit greatly from more depth off their bench, particularly in their frontcourt. Anyhow, I was playing with RealGM's trade simulator and came up with this transaction between SAC and HOU and it was accepted... --------------------------- Sacramento trades: PG Bobby Jackson (10.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 21.6 minutes) C Greg Ostertag (1.2 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 0.2 apg in 8.3 minutes) SG Doug Christie (7.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 3.9 apg in 29.3 minutes) Sacramento receives: C Dikembe Mutombo (4.0 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 0.1 apg in 13.7 minutes) PF Juwan Howard (7.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 0.5 apg in 19.4 minutes) SG Bob Sura (6.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 6.0 apg in 21.0 minutes) Change in team outlook: -1.7 ppg, +2.9 rpg, and +0.6 apg. ------------------------- I personally believe this trade would benefit both teams, but would vastly improve Sacramento's depth and their overall defense. Dikembe Mutombo is far more productive than Greg Ostertag. Mutombo's far better defensively, and is a much better shot blocker, a department in which Sacramento has always lacked. Bobby Sura is a hussle player. He's great defensively, and he fills the stat sheet in several catagories every night. Don't let his statistics this season fool you, he's only playing 21 minutes a game in Houston. Than of course there's Juwan Howard. Reuniting He and Webber could improve team chemistry, which has been questioned this season, because of their prior relationship from Michigan. Howard would also provide a bonafide 6th man to replace Bobby Jackson (shipped off in this deal) and a potential starter if Webber goes down with knee problems again this season. I personally believe that is a huge addition and provides a BIG insurance policy. If Webber was to once again go down with injury, I dread to see what Sacramento's starting lineup would look like given their current situation on the bench. Peja at Power Foward? Perhaps Ostertag starting with Miller at Power Foward? Juwan Howard sounds alot better to me... So what does this forum think about this potential deal?
Not really feeling this. Houston wont do it. Nobody wants Greg Ostertag. That guy has nothing to offer. Just like Dallas wants to get rid of Bradley but nobody is stupid enough to take him

Just like Dallas wants to get rid of Bradley but nobody is stupid enough to take him</div> Houston NEEDS a starting point guard, Bobby Jackson would suit them VERY well given their current situation. Lue isn't getting the job done down in Houston and that would be the big selling point on this deal. The Rockets would get a point guard who's cluth, solid defensively, has the ability to post big scoring numbers and has even played on the biggest of stages giving him plenty of expierence. He's the PERFECT fit for Houston, that's why they'd pull the trigger. Even if that means parting ways with Mutombo or Howard and replacing them with Ostertag and Christie. They'd likely just start Christie or Jackson at the Small Foward and Mo Taylor at Power Foward. PG: Bobby Jackson (Bench: Lue, Gaines, Ward) SG: Tracy McGrady (Bench: Jim Jackson) SF: Doug Christie (Bench: Nachbar) PF: Mo Taylor (Bench: Scott Padgett & Ryan Bowen) C: Yao Ming (Bench: Weatherspoon & Ostertag) I wouldn't argue with that.
I don't think the Kings would do this because they are giving Jackson and Christie for 2 old guys who aren't good any more and a decent shooting guard.
I would not do it if I where the Kings you are giving up one of your best defenders, and a guard who is a former sixth man of the year basically just for Sura. mutombo just got traded to Houston so I do not think they are looking to get rid of him since they need a decent back up vetern center to help Yao. juwan Howardf would be a nice pick up for the Kings though, but they really have no use for him he would most likely come off the bench backing up Chris Webber he would not do them much good from the bench any how.
while just comparing numbers it might look like a good idea, keep this in mind. Howard would face little time on the floor behind Webber and Songaila (and Songaila would be coming in before Howard) so any numbers that he would bring to the team would essentially be wasted. Just taking his numbers out of the equation makes this appear to be a very bad trade

I don't like this trade at all. Bobby Jackson is the heart of the team and what he provides off the bench is irreplaceable. As much as I can't stand him, I would rather have Ostertag on the Kings rather than Mutombo who is way past his prime and is now a non factor. Who would be able to replace the defensive stopping power of Doug Christie if you also trade away the team's second best defender in Jackson? And to me, Juan Howard is a has been. (maybe even a never was)
no way. B-Jax is awsome no way I would ever trade him, plus Mutombo and Howard are gettin old. We need a new, young, productive player.
Wow Houston will DEFINENTLY pull this trigger if offered. We get a JVG type player in Doug Christie and a terrific PG in Bobby Jackson. Although Ostertag is worst then Mutombo....the Rockets will make this sacrifice. Again PG-Bobby Jackson SG-Tracy Mcgrady SF-Doug Christie or Jim Jackson PF-Juwan Howard C-Yao Ming This trade would put Houston back in the top teams. But it does seem horrible for Kings. I don't see the Maloof's wanting Jackson and Christie gone. King James x3 post this trade in the Rocket's trade thread and see what people there will think.
I would do it if I were Houston but, not if I were Sacremento. They lose the front court defense, and that bench spark for a real old Mutombo who isn't half way decent anymore, a role player in Howard who wont get any burn playing behind Webber and Sura something Sacremento already has a decent PG. Houston gets Bobby Jackson a Solid PG (especially when starting), a decent SG and great defender in Doug Christie, and Ostertag someone backing up Yao Ming. I see absolutely no benefits in this deal for Sacremento. If Christie wasn't in it the deal imo would still be bad. Jackson is a solid PG giving Mike Bibby some valuable rest as well as mental assurance the game wont get out of hane while he is relaxing on the bench. Not to mention the 6th man of the year 2 years ago. The way I see it the Kings lose backcourt defensive, offensive, and mental toughness and hardly make up for it by gaining little frontcourt defensive help.

Hight and capability of defending the 3 spot has nothing to do with the fact that Songaila is backing Webber up at the 4 and Christie/Jackson/Barnes are backing Stojakovic up at the 3
