<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Myklas:</div><div class="quote_post">araujo was a terrible pick, Igoudala would even fit in Raptor's current roster much better. And i don't believe Araujo has much potential. In fact i don't see him improving much</div>Any reasons why you don't see him improving?

Also with the 3 swingmen we had at the time in Vince Carter, MoPete, and Jalen Rose how could we know that Iguodala would have been a better pick? Hindsight it very 20-20 and I was even adverse to picking up Araujo.

But since he has been starting he has brought something to this Raptors team that we didn't have since Charles Oakely, that being toughness. IF you have been watching Raptors games you would know that no one goes into the lane without being hit flat on his back when Araujos around.

He has been improving his rebouding and shooting in the past 5 games so i don't see why he can't improve even more as the season goes along. It is known that it takes longer for big men to develope and I don't mind waiting on this kid a little bit longer. He will have his off nights but as far as I see he is learning as he plays more.

Hoffa's been showing up big time as of late. Career high 14 points last nite and career high 14 boards 2 games before that. Also, he is a very hard worker and does not complain at all if he does not get playing time. Also notice an interesting stat....he's 13/14 from the free-throw line. A big center who can block up the lane and is also good at free-throws? That's kind of hard to find. Another thing i wanted to mention is that his interior passing is much better than i would have expected. When he passes, it sometimes reminds me of Arvydas Sabonis....of course he's not nearly at that level of passing yet. But maybe someday he will....

if hoffa can continue to play the way he is, he will indeed become the steal of the draft.

as much as i like iggy...a good big man is harder to find. id rather have hoffa now, and in next years draft pick up hakim warrick. i think he's gonna be better then iggy anyways

Well I don't know if that's considered a steal since the players ahead of him except Childress are all better and have more potential [Okafor, Howard, Gordon, Harris, Deng], but he's not as bad a pick as he's looked earlier in the season.

well isnt a steal someone who turns out good, but was picked up later on?

not comparing him to anyone picked ahead of him...but if he ends up giving us 12 and 9 on a nightly basis, id certainly call that a steal

not saying he will avg those kinds of numbers...im just throwing hypothetical situations out there

A steal is someone who could've gone higher, and was passed up by many teams and picked up late, a steal would be a Jameer Nelson if he becomes good, Josh Smith, JR Smith, a Gilbert Arenas, Carlos Boozer, Michael Redd.

Their was no chance of Araujo going higher, and he wasn't really passed up by other teams, they just took players who were better, so, no he wouldn't be considered a steal just because he produces. Matt Bonner is a steal, Araujo would be a steal if we picked him in the 2nd round, or if someone else picked him with the 21st pick or something.

well jesus...then what is the term you call for someone that was passed up by a few teams, and picked up, but nobody expected anything from and turned out to be decent?

oh how i love these debates on proper terminology [IMG]

It's funny.. the start of the season everyone hates on him just because he's white and big. Didn't play much, looked like he dind't know what he was doing. ALTHOUGH he only played like 5 garbage minutes per game.

Seems like all Raptors fans lose faith in every player they have if they are doing bad for a certain period of time. Wonder what would happen if bosh played bad for 1 month... he's not the franchise anymore???

Noone ever gave Hoffa a chance. Now he's starting, and he's putting up solid numbers. 14 rpg in 1 game, 14 points in another game. Nice fora rookie big man who wasn't supposed to be any good at all. Let's wait til next season's over before we judge Hoffa.

raps management did horrible in the draft... they shudve drafted iguodola or jameer nelson and get araujo late 1st round or early 2nd round and hes 24 dats pretty old for 1st yr man. that is probably why carter wanted to get traded and didnt work hard this season as a rap

I don't know what you're talking about, Araujo wasn't passed up by any team, he was supposed to be the second most ready big man in the draft after Okafor just with little potential, he was the other player that could come in and help right away. I don't know how you're trying to justify him being a steal, or how you're trying to say he fits into that category.

It's like saying Dwyane Wade was a steal for the Heat, or Livingston was a steal for the Clippers [IMG]

That's just nonsense, their's no possible way Araujo would drop to second round, we didn't have a late first round pick, and our second round pick wasn't that early, I don't know where you got this garbage from. [IMG]

You really think Araujo would last that long in a draft weak with centres? I think not.

And now you are saying Carter wanted to get traded because we chose Araujo at the pick instead of the second round? Has anyone seen a Vince Carter troll roaming the Raptors forum lately???

Actually you could say that Wade was a steal... he's playing like a 1st overall pick, not a 5th. 4 teams passed him up, and he's proving some of them wrong. They thoght he coudnt play PG, and was too short to be a SG...

Arajuo will develop in 1 year... give some time. 24 is still young.

Him being too short to be a SG was just nonsense, he measured at 6'4 3/4, which would be a listing of 6'5 for any other player, and has a 6'10 wingspan, any team that thought he was udnersized at the 2 was just retarded.

The Cavs have Lebron, the Nuggets have the great Carmelo, we have Bosh, and the Pistons have their Darko, the Pistons had too many guards to have drafted one.

im not trying to say he's a steal by what you're defining as a steal...im saying (or at least trying to say beyond this pointless discussion) is that it seemed that everyone was trashing him as the 8th pick, and it seemed everyone was projecting him to do nothing and turn into a scrub...now it seems people are projecting big things for him...if he turns out to be something special, it seems we were lucky to get him at the 8th pick. thats my opinion...am i allowed to have it? that opinion is even based on a hypothetical situation...so whats the big deal?

btw...dwayne wade is considered a steal by some people since he was available at the 5th pick....he's an mvp candidate this year some would say...and he was passed up for darko. its a steal in that sense. i suppose those peoples opinions are wrong too? [IMG]

Sorry, but that would mean he exceeded our expectations, just the wrong choice of words, but like you said, pointless discussion. A steal is someone you get where you shouldn't have, even with Araujo's current production their's still people that think he should've gone lower then 8th, and for the 8th pick he's definately not doing anything steal worthy, I hope it is all clear now [IMG]

Araujo would be a steal if next year he starts averaging 15 points and 10 reobunds a game, and in 2 years is an All-Star in this league. Also in terms of expectations, before the season I actually thought he'd be our starter from the get go, then he didn't do anything for 25 games.
