Webber: Percentage STILL a Concern Now, I know Webber's numbers are still quite impressive, but does anyone still believe he can return to his previous self? The one statistic that sticks in my mind, leading me to believe he's yet to recover, is his field goal percentage. Last year he shot 41% from the field and this season he's at 42%, this of course is way down from his career 49% from the field. My opinion is he's unable to dominate in the post the way he had in previous years and he's settled for alot of jumpshots rather than higher percentage low post attempts. Opinions?
Webber has changed alot since the injurys. He cant jump as high as he used to jump so if he goes inside to make those higher percentage shots he will get blocked. I saw this in the game against the Lakers. I know the Lakers so dont talk about that now but if you saw the game almost every shot he took in the paint he was either blocked by Mihm or Butler. I even think that Kobe blocked him once.
I dont think so. he just doesnt have the vertical leap or the lateral movement that he used to have. and if he was going to really get it back, he would be closer to it right now than he really is. I think he has really done a lot to get back into things offensively and he is looking really good right now as far as the numbers go. But I think that has more to do with him making adjustments to his game than anything else. really the big area this is going to impact him for the rest of his career is defensively. he just doesnt have the lateral movement needed to defend anyone in a one on one situation. but like you and I have both already said... his numbers are lookin pretty good right now!
Webber will never be the same player he use to be.that's a fact.he can't jump as high as he use to,and his declining will more than likely keep on going.not that i want that to happen, but that's the reality of the situtation. With his Knee surgeries over the last few years with his injuries it's been very difficult to return in his old forum, but this year his numbers are still decent.so on that level it's good. Bascailly if you want the old Webber of 5 years ago,uh-uh..not gonna happen, but if he plays the way he plays now and maintains his health, than he can still be a force in some capacities.
Will Webber ever return to his old reverse put back dunking self? No.However i am optimistic about his health improving, biases aside.Im less focused on the question of "will he ever be his old self?" and more focused on the question of "to what level will his physical abilities improve?".So far this season Webber has looked better and better, little by little as far as what hes capable of physically. His improving health became especially apparent to me in the indiana game where,in my opinion,he looked the best hes looked since he was his old self.
