Looking at Songaila's numbers I certainly believe he deserves a shot at more field goal attempts per game. Here's a quick breakdown: Darius Songaila: 15 MPG, 5 PPG, 3.5 FGA-PG, 57% FROM THE FIELD. Now given the fact that Sacramento lacks a dominate low post presense with Webber's slight decline, should Songaila receive more attempts? He's shown great awareness on the block, and undoubtably has the ability to play low post, back to the bucket style basketball. Perhaps he doesn't average 15-20 Points a night, but as a 57% shooter he should at least be attempting 7-10 shots per outing and receiving a few more minutes too. To me it makes perfect sense, Sacramento could use more toughness and activity in the low post and Songaila could provide that given the playing time. I just think The Kings should and more importantly NEED to find room and time for Songaila to progress and improve...
With Webbers offensive numbers being what they are right now, I dont see any way that Songaila is going to get any significant increase in playing time. that combined with the fact that what they really need from him more than anything else when he is in is rebounding which is something that he is doing fairly well in his limited minutes with about 5 rpg. I would like to see him take a few more attempts when he is in.. but when you have as many scoring options on a team like the kings do sometimes you just arnt going to be able to take that many shots...
With Songalia's numbers he should get more playing time.but now that Webber looks like he's back in his old forum,Songaila will sit on the bench more. If Webber were to get injured again,i have no doubt that Songaila would come through and keep things going the way they have been going.so at least we have a steady backup player, but who knows..he may get his chance soon,as it's been stated he is a 57% shooter,so that's something to consider. Overall Songaila is one of the best kept hidden secrets Sacramento has on the team.
Darius has the skills and abilities to play the SF or C position without ever interfering with Webber's precious playing time.
so then you are going to move who out of the rotation to have him play at sf or c? and sorry, there is no way Songaila is going to play center in the west unless the games outcome is in NO DOUBT or Miller, Webber, and Ostertag are all injured.
I think Songailia has a great all-around game, the fact that the C's let him go for next to nothing irks me to this day.
Quick Follow up, with Webber out Songaila shines... [12/07/04 vs Bobcats] D. Songaila: 37 minutes, 7-12 shooting, 17 Points, 11 Rebounds Prayers answered, Songaila shows his worth and perhaps earned himself some more minutes with this performance in the absence of C-Webb.
