Last nights loss just shows how much the Lakers need another floor leader like J. Kidd. Mitch and Jerry need to look at this team and see that as it is, this team is at best an eight seed and out. Unless they make a serious run at getting J. Kidd, who is available and wants to come to LA, we could be in the lottery next year. I will guarantee this team will not be playing on Christmas or any other holiday next year on national tv with the players on this roster. I know it is early in the season, but I know great basketball when I see it, and this team will never be great. Get Kidd or watch those expensive seats start to empty by season end.
I thought bryant can do everything by himself? hehe who will the Nets get if they trade Kidd to Lakers? and I think the chance will be very very slim...
I know its a lot of money and Kidd's health is a big question mark, but I think Buss and Mitch should make a pitch to the Nets to bring him to LA. I think its obvious Chucky is not doing the job at the PG position. If we can get Kidd and a solid PF, we are an elite team in the West again.
Do any of you Laker fans think this is a real possibilty to get Kidd to the Lakers? And if so when do you expect he will be on the team??
^I think it's possible, as anything is. But I doubt it. I don't ever expect him to be on the team. I don't think it'd be worth it, unless he was willing to play for less...

I would love to see what Kidd could do for us in L.A. Most of all, i think he'll be happy playin for the Lakers. I just dont want to lose Butler in the deal.

Butler would probably be used as a filler and trade bait to compliment whoever else the Nets want. The only player that the Nets might be interested in is Kobe or Odom and we all know Kobe > Odom so that's outta the picture. Remember though, Kidd and any good PG makes a team way better, especially for the type of offense the Lakers want to run, he's a great fit. So you would have to be willing to sacrafice someone to get this guy. I tried on the RealGM trade simulator and a trade would be ok is trading LO and Atkins for Kidd. The Nets get a franchise player (?) and a starting PG, and the Lakers get the PG they need to start building the type of offense they want to run. Jason Kidd is more important to the Lakers than Lamar Odom would be. Just look at what Nash did for Pheonix.
The Lakers also lose their starting power forward in the trade, and they don't have anyone to replace Odom with. Kidd would be a nice addition, but his contract is a killer for any plans on building a team around Kobe, and the cost of trading Odom is not worth it. Any team would like to add Kidd to their squad, but his health issues are still uncertain and his contract is an eyesore. Unless the Nets are willing to take Brian Grant in a deal, I don't think it's in the best interests of the Lakers to acquire Kidd. Cook - Butler - Atkins - Grant for Kidd works salary capwise.

We dont need Jason Kidd and i odnt want him. We just need to be patient were jumping to trades allready let some time pass.

I agree his knee and contract are an issue but he might just be worth the risk, although the whole situation has to be analyzed. Either way Shapecity, your missing the big picture: Jason Kidd is the PG the Lakers need to run the type of offense they want to run. The only trade bait you have is LO, nobody else on the Lakers is even worth mentioning in a trade for Kidd (besides Kobe). There is never a 1000% lop sided trade and the Lakers are not gonna be the first to pull it off
Missing the big picture? The big picture is cap-room for the Lakers and building with youth. Jason Kidd kills both of those possibilities, as will Shaq for your Heat when they have to re-sign him to a monster deal. I agree Kidd would be great for the Lakers, but relying on Grant and Cook to play powerforward is not plausible. Let's not forget the West is dominated by powerforwards. I do not expect the Lakers to compete against the likes of Garnett, Duncan, Nowitzki, Stoudemire, Webber, K-Mart, Brand, Boozer etc. with the Grant and Cook. There is no way the Lakers can trade size for a point guard, even though it's one of the best in the league. Now let's look at Kidd's age and salary. He's 31 years old and is signed until he turns 36, where he will be making $21M a season. His salary combined with Kobe puts the Lakers close to the cap level alone. This makes it impossible to build a championship team with Kidd. The Nets know they cannot get a franchise player for Kidd, this late in Kidd's career. They let K-Mart go for relatively cheap because they didn't want to pay him a max salary, and they were happy to get draft picks instead. The Nets do not have the luxury of making demands because of the state of their franchise. The team is losing money and they are struggling to sell tickets. They are banking on the future, and the Lakers can offer them two solid young stars, Cook & Butler, an soon to be expiring contract, Brian Grant, and probably some draft picks to take Kidd's salary off their books, and maybe even Mourning. The Lakers are not looking to win a title this season, they haven't even talked about making to the playoffs even. So adding Kidd doesn't make sense for the Lakers.
Maybe the Nets might want to unload kidd so that they can rebuild. They need to. Bottom line, they went from Playoff Caliber team to nobody in a year. They traded K-Mart for next to nothing. Who knows, they might do that with Kidd. It could happen.

I would rather wait 2 years for the team to gel and players to get better then get Kidd be good for 2 years and then all of a sudden go back into rebuilding mode. Doing the Kidd trade is the same thing as reversing the Shaq trade. I say keep them both out!
yeah, we need new players not old players, i think we should think of getting a young gun out of college like lebron with the cavaliers
