Anyone else sometimes been annoyed by Maggette's shot selection, he's been doing great lately, but earlier on he was taking stupid shots many games, and many times taking early jumpers with one or no passes made, and it was hurting the team. I'm fine with the times he drives and uses pumpfakes because he'll either score or get to the line, but when he starts shooting jumpers everything goes down hill. When you get to the line and shoot FT's, it also get's your jumper in rythm, which is something a lot of players don't realize when they're playing. With Maggette it's not always, of course it's good when he hits them, but when he doesn't it's bad, like I said I like when he drives, uses pumpfakes etc and get's to the line, what was it 21 FT attempts vs the Bobcats. Look at the previous game, 14 attempts and he shot 10-19 from the field, he's at his best when he's in attack mode. If you look at the games where he didn't get to the line and look at his FG% it's reletively lower. vs Suns: 2 FT attempts, 4-12 [33%] vs Rockets: 4 FT attempts, 5-13 [38.5%] vs Lakers: 3 FT attempts, 9-25 [36%] vs Pacers 4 FT attempts, 5-13 [38.5%] vs Blazers 1 FT attempt, 5-20 [25%] Average: 33.7% His season FG% is 43.2% In the other games: vs Bobcats: 21 FT attempts, 7-13 [53.8%] vs TWolves: 14 FT attempts, 10-19 [52.6%] vs Pacers: 10 FT attempts, 4-11 [36.3%] vs Warriors [15 mins]: 5 FT attempts, 3-5 [60%] vs Nets: 8 FT attempts, 4-12 [33%] vs Raptors: 9 FT attempts, 7-12 [58.3%] vs Bulls: 13 FT attempts, 6-14 [42.9%] vs Knicks: 11 FT attempts, 10-17 [58.8%] vs Pistons: 15 FT attempts, 6-13 [46.2%] vs Warriors: 9 FT attempts, 9-16 [56.3%] vs Sonics: 10 FT attempts, 5-14 [35.7%] Average: 48.6% If you watched the Laker game you would've cried at the amount of early and long jumpshots he was taking. Even looking at the numbers, he's most succesful when in attack mode yet some games he goes away from his bread and butter and thinks he's Ray Allen, and even if he wants to shoot, at least do it in the offense. I just hope he can get it through his head to to what is good for him and the team and go easy with the early long jumpers which is what mostly contributes to his bad shooting nights.
good observation man, i been thinking the same thing lately about maggette, he needs to play a little bit smarter and that'll bring consistensy and take him to the next level...once again, good observation, i didnt think many people would notice that...
Good observation. However, more often than not, CMag makes it up by being clutch in 2nd half. I guess we wouldn't be in that position if he didn't shoot so poorly in the first place but at any rate, I agree. He should have better shot selections and take it to the hoop more often and early on.
Good observation og15, personally that was what i noticed too. Maggette was always a classic 3 point play slasher in my eyes, and i was not that happy with him on shot-jacking mode.
kobe has been the same, too, poor shot selection and attempts. i know that these two are good friends and work out together. do you guys think that bulking up loses their shooting touch? kobe bulked up this season and maggette has been bulking up almost every season. just a thought...
I think Corey is putting to much pressure on himself, he feels that he has to make up what we lost last year which was QRich, that now he thinks that he has to pick up his work load to be successful.. I was watching the game the other day and I couldn't believe that he had 38 points.. But I saw that he made a lot of trips to the freethrow line
Welcome TDK23 I've actually been looking at CMag's stats and surprisingly, with the extra amount of scoring pressure and FG attempts he's been taking, his shooting percentage hovered around the same as last year's. Also I guess Cmag has to shoot some of those jumpers to make people respect his shots and makes him easier to drive and/or draw fouls.. Overall I think he's doing fine, if not better from last year.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting kobe_8:</div><div class="quote_post">kobe has been the same, too, poor shot selection and attempts. i know that these two are good friends and work out together. do you guys think that bulking up loses their shooting touch? kobe bulked up this season and maggette has been bulking up almost every season. just a thought...</div> I don't think so unless it's a huge weight gain, Maggette hasn't had anu significay change in weight, and it shouldn't affect your shot after you work in the summer and training camp you should be back. I bulked up for highschool ball before and it didn't affect my shot really. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I've actually been looking at CMag's stats and surprisingly, with the extra amount of scoring pressure and FG attempts he's been taking, his shooting percentage hovered around the same as last year's. Good thread. Maggette was horrible tonight with his shot selection. He was throwing out shots in the second half instead of sharing the ball with his teammates. He was taken to task by the TWolves announcers in the second half.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">always been a fan of Maggette, but I question his passing ability</div> lol, Maggette isnt even considered a passer. no offense intended, but why talk about his passing when its about his shot selection? on a more serious note, Maggette was playing bad basketball tonight. He was looking to fire a jumper almost every time he had the ball. and that was a factor in the Clippers' 113-86 loss to our T-wolves. when arguably your best player doesnt show a good example on court, the team is bound to suffer.
No it's actually not arguable, it's known the Brand is the teams best player because he brings more dimensions of play on the court with his offense, defense, rebounding, and pretty good passing ability from the post/high post. Maggette is a main scorer and second best player, but it's not arguable IMO, but CMag needs to improve his early clock jacking.
Very good original post. The one thing I take from Maggette is that he's darn good at getting to the line and he always makes his free throws when he gets there.
