Compiling a Management Staff: there is way too much nepotism in his staff, too many like minded individuals (the hiring of PETE BABCOCK). he should have hired a more diverse pedigree of basketball minds. the management team has a lot of experience (Embry, Pete Babcock) but they need an infusion of new blood.

    GRADE: C+

Drafting Rafuel Araujo: he's too slow, too obtuse to understand the game, too unsure of himself and too bad to be drafted eighth overall. babcock is preaching patience, comparing him to rik smiths and brad miller. i don't see the comparison, he's another raptor project center gone awry.

    GRADE: C

Drafting Pape Sow: getting a steal like pape sow 48th overall, ripe with so much potential is probably the best move he's done in his tenure as GM.

    GRADE: A+

Hiring Coach Mitchell: i think the hire was done too hastily, a more extensive job search should have been conducted. mitchell's asymmetry with the fragile personalities on the team should have been considered before the hire. most observers love his bluntness and this teams needs tough love, but the messenger may have been tuned out by the disciples before christmas

    GRADE: B-

Signing Rafer Altson: excellent foresight to realize alvin wasn't a reliable option because of his health problems. also, his contract seems to be bargain considering how well he?s playing, the raptors may be winless if rafer wasn't in town. however, babcock should have considered rumours of personality conflicts with players like vince carter.

    GRADE: A

Signing Loren Woods: good reclamation project, he was signed cheap so there is real no drawback to this move

    GRADE: A-

Matching Mo Pete?s Offer: most of us believe that was done in anticipation of carter and rose being moved. If that?s the case, its unfair for me to pass judgment.

    Grade: To be Determined

Dealing with Vince Carter's trade demand and the ensuing factionalism of the club: Carter should have been jettisoned in the summer when his value was higher, he took a chance that carter would perform well and his value has plummeted substantially. rumours and factionalism have overwhelmed the club, clearing creating cliques. his irresponsive attitude thus far is tantamount to world powers not intervening in a genocide.

    GRADE: F

    Cumulative Grade: C

For the most part I was agreeing with you until I reached this point. The last thing you want to do when a player requests a trade via the media is to give into his demands and rush a deal. He said time and time again that he would only pull the trigger if it makes the team better. Obviously when there are rumours that a player wants out, teams will try their best to low-ball the player's team and I believe this was the case in the off-season with the Raps and Babcock. Let's face it, Carter on the market does not spark an equal amount of interest as other stars such as T-Mac, Shaq, and Kobe, so when Carter was being shopped around the league, not too many teams were interested and the ones that were, weren't willing to give equal value. What was Babcock to do? The only thing left to do was to let Carter play a few games and showcase his skills to opposing teams so hopefully teams would realize he still has it in him to perform at a top level. Season starts and Carter decides to play some games and tune out the rest of the games..... but I doubt Babcock expected this to happen. It would've been logical to assume VC would play his @ss off so that his trade value would increase but who would've known he'd do something like this?

It's a good thing that he waited because I'm pretty sure the offers on the table right now weren't there a month ago or in the off-season. The tensions and fractions that came as a result of all the rumours are beyond Babcock's control so he shouldn't be blamed for what's going on in the locker room. It's natural for teams to go through a phaze of tension when trade rumours are rampant.

He hasn't been perfect but I'd still give him at least a A- for handling the VC trade demand.

very little of my evaluation had to do with the trade demand but of the dysfunctions, schisms created in the locker room as a result. i happen to think vince carter has little to do with that, jalen rose is the culprit. rose poisoned that bulls locker room, curry and chandler once promising stars in waiting became labeled underachievers. we are witnessing the same thing happening to bosh, coincidence? i think not. plus, don't u notice how woods, roger mason and mo. pete admire him? Vince has a nominal leadership presence in the locker room, notice when he got hurt in detriot the only teammates that helped him out were pape sow and bonner? factionalism is a concern, rose and his sycophants are united against coach Mitchell and Rafer

It can happen to any team that is put in the same situation so I fail to see how Babcock is the one to blame.

I agree that Jalen is most likely responsible for a lot of the animosity in the locker room, but again, how is Babcock to blame? It was GG who brought him aboard and in fact, Babcock is the one trying his best to rid the team of Rose. The fact that he'd rather have Eddie Jones on the team is proof of how desperate he really is.

well according to published reports the raptors had reef, DA and stephania for vince+ jalen and babcock walked away. he could have mitigated the disaster waiting to happen in a rose led, divided locker room. do u honestly think we can get a better deal then the portland offer?

Actually, even with the injury I still think we could get a better deal (assuming VC's achilles isn't too bad).

When he was offered that deal, they were pushing to get Van Excel (whose contract expires) instead of DA. When the trade rumours sparked interest in other teams, Portland was forced to include NVE to top everyone else. So as it stands, we can already get more than the original offer (assuming the injury has no effect). There are even more rumours of us getting Magloire in a deal involving Carter and that should be better than the original offer also. And don't you remember when Portland first offered the deal w/ Reef, DA, and Stefania? The very next day there were numerous calls going Babcocks way from teams bidding on Carter. He had the upper hand in all the wheeling and dealings so what's the point in rushing? The more he was patient, the more offers were becoming available. He was just trying to get the most from a deal involving Carter.

Of course, the injury had to come but hopefully that doesn't ruin things too much. That was just very unfortunate and again, I wouldn't blame Babcock for not making a deal soon enough. It was rumoured that he was within days of making a trade before the injury so it's absurd to think he was too hesistant in pulling the trigger.

your reply is based on a set of false assumptions; magloire was never offered up. all we know for sure is the portland and the ny packages. in fact, according peter vecsey (sp.) only those teams are in the bidding cause babcock is insistent on rose being part of the deal and those are the only teams in the league with the financial wherewithal to trade for rose and carter.

^ well I'm sure there's been talks with the Hornets and it's pretty hard to think of anyone else on that team besides Magloire who would spark interest from the Raps. And there also has been speculation that Nazr Mohammad may be involved in a deal with the Knicks so this immediately makes it a more intriguing deal than the Portland one.

if your asking me if i would like a center over derek anderson, the answer is yes. but there is a scarcity of good centers and thats why i don't think we would be getting back a center for our two losers

Remove these 2 and draft Iguodala, and the could be a C+ to B overall, and don't say we'd have too man swingmen, we'd have the same amount as we do now and not paying MoPete to try and do statue of liberty dunks or have one of his better games of the year by scoring in garbage time when it was over.

Oh I wish, but with Big Dog expiring, Iggy being a good young prospect, and with us wanting to trade Rose too, it's just not going to happen [IMG]
