So now we all know, a high scoring team like Dallas and Sacremento doensn't really win you a championship. Instead, defense wins you championship, just look at the Spurs and the Pistons. A champinoship team also has to have good role players, and almost every year, there is a superstar/star on the championship team. Now come my question, what kind of superstar/star makes the team most succesful on a championship. Would you rather have a defensive center like Ben Wallace or an amazing point guard like Jason Kidd. Or would you have a versatile player like Kobe, MJ,KG, or a dominanting center like Shaq.. Please don't make your choice based on the players career. Ex, don't say you don't want to have a PG like Jason Kidd because he hasn't won a championship. I want this to be fair to every kind of player.

I think the most important part of a championship team is to have a dominant center that can score and play good defense. But a supporting cast is another important key.

A dominant low post player is the most essential piece. The reason being is their field goal percentages are always the highest because they play closest to the basket,as well as control the glass and change shots in the paint.I think you also have to exclude jordan from any list of versitile players such as KG and Kobe because Jordan was simply the best player ever by far.

I think first and foremost every championship team now a days needs a dominant big man (ala the Spurs) or a team that really gells together and plays great D (ala the Pistons) without one of those I do not see a team going anywhere. You can have a Tmac, a Kobe, a LeBron, and so on, but if you do not give them the proper players around them, you wont get far.

The very first piece is a commited front office. The front office has to want to win and not just worry about the bottomline. The attitude of the front office sets the tone for everything else. If the front office is commited to winning then everything else falls into place because they go out get the pieces neccesary for winning.

dominant big man over a great pg IMO not to say that a good pg isn't required.

    Team work
    Team play
    Team harmony
    Team commitment
    Team orientated players
    Team chemistry

    See a common theme?

Basketball in essence is a team sport based around fellow team members, and when everyone plays as a team, and plays as a solid team, not sure if you will be losing much games.
    Just ask the Detroit Pistons.

^^Yes, one of the best ways for teams to acheive is to play as a team. Players have to think as one with their teamates on what to do on both sides of the court running the plays the coach assigns.

personally, i think great defence wins championships, as for the players, you'll need a emotional confident player like kb or kg,
i'd just like to say that a great centre isn't much without a pg, and a pg isn't much without a free person

Well to answer the question about what players I'd rather have is: a versatile big man like KG. Now the reason, I picked out KG, instead of saying some one like Kobe is because I want some one who can patrol the lane. But on another note, judging from my screen name, you know I'm a Detroit Pistons fan, so I'd rather have team oriented guys and depth on my team. The reason why it works so well, is that it makes it so much more harder to defend guys who are talented and trust their teammates. You see, lets say your defense is focusing on Rip Hamilton, you're basically making it easier for Chauncey or some one else to get an easy bucket, and that's where the unselfishness comes in, Rip then passes it up so Chauncey gets the easy bucket. And it just goes on and on. You get it?

I would like this year to be the year where D doesn't win a championship. For the most part teams that play really good D are boring to watch, ala Tim Duncan and the Spurs.

Obviously, D does win championships because we have seen the spurs and Detroit win some...But like others said its all about the TEAM.

You can either have a versatile player who can do it all for you, or a ppoint guard.

Even though defense is the key to championships offense is going to score you points and eventually win you games. But if you dont have a solid point guard to run your team, I dont care how good your defense is, you probably won't be as effective or win as many ballgames.

IMO, I think its the belif in your self to succed. The vast majority of people all counted the Pistons out this year, and were so hot on the [srikeout]Lakers[/strikeout]. The Pistons belived in them selves more than anyteam against the Lakers, the Sprus felt they couldnt come back from that heartwreching lost(what i belive) thats why they let game 6 slip away.

But player wise I have to say a good Point Guard that can get a good visual of the court. The PG to me is the most important peice on the game, if you dont have much of a point guard, the team isnt that much. I mean Chaucny Billups is one of the best PG's in the leauge(he is so under rated) and look where he lead his team too..

Tony Parker - good point guard, took his team to the championship the year before..

Derek Fisher - the year before..

thats my opinion on that one

I agree with the point guard being one of the most important pieces. He is the floor general, without him you will not be successful.
