Speedy Claxton is a defenders nightmare. Watch him play. He just gets fouled and fouled. Thats how he gets many of his points. He has good D and always strpis people of the ball and as a result makes fast breaks happen. I hope we can sign him resign him next year...
I love Claxton's game and that is why i was troubled when the Warriors signed Fisher. This guy deserves to be the man at the point on this team.
Last night, Claxton was the MVP. He had seven steals and played very aggressive D. He single handedly kept the Warriors in the game in the 2nd quarter by drawing fouls and getting to the line. Without him, they are down by 20 at halftime. Fisher? Ugh. The Warriors' offense runs so much better with Speedy in there.

And he is the master of getting fouled
I actually kind of like the fact that Speedy doesn't have a solid long range shot because it forces him to drive more. And when he drives, it disrupts the other team's defense and allows him to get fouled or create for others who get open. But the double edged sword is the more he takes contact and gets fouled, the more chances he'll miss half a month worth of games.
Mullin is definately going to have a tough decision come June if Fisher doesn't step up his game. He's got young talent at every position except pg signed to reasonable deals. He's going to have to decide whether to: 1) re-sign Speedy, 2) draft a pg, 3) sign and trade Speedy along with this year's pick for an upgrade at pg. My guess is that if Chris Paul is projected to be around when the Warriors pick, Speedy's gone. But if the Warriors improve and end up with another pick in the #10-#12 range, Mullin will have to re-sign Speedy.
I knew you guys we're going to love Speedy when you recieved him. When the 6ers had him he was a good player. I remember 3 years ago before he had gotten injured in his rookie year, AI said in the training camp that he actually made him tired as hell chasing him around the court like crazy.
I love the guy, he's great in his style of offense and he gets it done defensively (as long as it is not a 6'2 or taller point guard that can shoot consistently). I can see him just getting killed by Nash, Van Excel, Chauncy Billups, Baron Davis, Stevie Francis, or Sam I am Cassell. Also Stephon Marbury is he's actually having a good shooting game.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting philsmith75:</div><div class="quote_post">Last night, Claxton was the MVP.</div>He was MVP again tonight. He changed the game when he was in; no one could guard him. He is a defensive liability (they routinely posted him up tonight), but when he was out there it seemed like the W's were scoring at will.
Nelson's rotations were kind of crappy. Dampier got a team high 2 assists in today's game, but wasn't seen for the rest of the night. Then you got Nowitizki who isn't a good defensive player at center, and then you have a smaller lineup with a point guard that isn't known for playmaking abilities, Finely at power forward, Josh Howard at small forward and Stack out on the court? Wow... Those are all defensive liabilities going the other way. But that's Don Nelson for you. All scoring no defense.
Gotta find a way to re sign Speedy. I know he's undersized, but he's awesome. Can't deny it. Just get rid of Fisher sign a bigger more talented guy. Have Speedy start. On night where there are 6'2+ guards playing, send in the bigger new PG. Need instant offense? Bring in Speedy. I really do not want to see him leave the team. The chemistry is definately there. You guys must also realize, Speedy is not a selfish player. He does spread the ball around and at will drives to the rim and gets people to foul him at will as well.
