Bobby Simmons to me is the leading man for Most Improved Player right now, he's always had the defense, and last year started showing glimpses of a good jumshot, this season he has a high FG%, and is averaging:

    He
If it was comeback player then Grant Hill....

Other players are: Kyle Korver, Keith Bogans, Drew Gooden [the Tmac escapees [IMG]], Lebron James, Dwyane Wade [they're in here even after their good rookie seasons], Primoz Brezec.....

Right now actually I think you could make a strong case for Dwyane Wade, but I too think it is Simmons. I loved him on the Wizards and I wish they would of kept him, I always thought he could become a good player in this league.

you would have to seriously consider lebron james too. sure he got rookie of the year last year, but he has really stepped it up impressively this year. just look at where the cavs stand in the east.

btw, i thought the mip award was no longer given out?

No, thats comeback player of the year. MIP was given to Zach Randolph last year.

    I quote myself:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Lebron James, Dwyane Wade [they're in here even after their good rookie seasons]</div>

Wade would be ahead of him though because he has a larger improvement, 16-4.5-4.5 to 24-6-8, Lebron is 20-5-5 to 25-7-7, and they both also improve defensively both off and on the ball.

my bad - i skipped over him in your initial thread. as for the wade - james competition you have to take into account that wade has more favourable conditions for improvment with shaq now at center.

    It's Simmons hands down.

    7.8ppg to 16.4ppg
    4.7rpg to 6.3rpg
    1.7apg to 3.1apg

and, most importantly, last year Simmons shot 39.4% and this year, 55.2%!!!! That is a ridiculous improvement in itself. If Bobby can keep it up, he should be able to win the MIP award based on his FG% itself!

How about Amare Stoudemire he was great last year, but has really upped his scoring even more and taken his game to a whole new level this season so far. He is averaging a near double double only .3 rebounds away from doing that. He is leading the league in scoring with 30.7 points. Now that I have given Amare his props let me just state that I think Simmons should win it, but do not think he is going to. The NBA always under rates Clipper players Maggette each year he has been in the NBA has improved his game. yet he has never even been relly considered a serious contender for the award not sure why. I hope he wins it though I would seriously give it to him if they make the playoffs or have a good season.

I think that Wade, Lebron, and Amare wont be really considered for the awards because although they have raised there games to amazing heights the award has a tendency to go to players that went from a mediocore season less than 10 points to a double digit scoring season. Not to players who went from 20 points to 28 normally. Not saying they wont get it, just saying does not seem likely to me. I think the only one that might have a shot really out of those three is Wade because he averaged less points last season then either of the three did. I think that Lberon and Amare will be top runners for MVP votes not MIP votes.

If Simmons wins it it will be a good story since he came in the league from the NBDL not many NBDL players really become that good in the NBA Wilks never really did much, nor did that other NBDL player who was playing for the Sonics last season. i think Simmons could really help add more legability to those players coming from other minor NBA leagues.

I think that Simmons might take it this year, but if he doesnt take it I'm almost positive he'll rank 2nd or 3rd. This guy is shooting great and rebounds well for a gaurd, Simmons is playing a lot better than I expected, I truly think he is one of the most underrated players I've ever seen.(I've only been into basketball for 2 1/2 years so yea).

Pure Skillz, good call on Amare. He did improve his FG% by 10%!! Wow.. but besides that, and 6 ppg, his improvement is not as big as Simmons' though. But yeah, as someone mentioned, Bobby might not win the award just because he's a Clipper.. [IMG]

Yes, Shaq helps his assists numbers, and also draws double teams which helps the shooters more than it helps Wade, but in turn, the shooters open the floor for Wade to penetrate, but if you look per [38.9] minutes at Wade's numbers last season, they're:

    18 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5 assists, 1.57 steals

this season, 24 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, 1.63 steals

[+6, +1.5, +3], and this year he's not taking three's [only 7], and he did last season, but without three's last season, or equating them to the same amount he's taking this season, he would've shot 48% from the field, and is shooting 51% I think this season.

So he improved his game obviously because you can see his jumpshot and decision making are much improved, and he's also getting more touches with Odom and Caron gone because Shaq doesn't need many shots to score because he shoots a very high percentage.

The situation is good, but Lebron also has a good team with Gooden and Ilguaskas, and it doesn't take from Wade's accomplishments from last season to this season because we saw him do it last season, and also in the playoffs without the DIESEL.

He was drafted by the Wizards then got traded to the Pistons who released him, then he was re-signed by the Wizards, and then went to the Clippers in the off-season.

I really liked his hustle, rebounding and defense last season, but didn't expect this offensive outburst from him at all.
