I was visiting the Houston Chronicle site and checking out the Rockets' headlines for the Rockets-Hawks summary. Here's what I've found under Jonathan Feigen's articles: "Press row view With players signed during the summer available for trades beginning Wednesday, the trade rumors began to swirl around the league, including one involving the Rockets. That had the Rockets in talks about the Raptors' Donyell Marshall, possibly as a third team in a Vince Carter deal. But according to NBA sources, the teams have no deals on the table. It will not be the last whisper, however. With the Rockets below .500 and holding a $5.2 million trade exception, phone lines will buzz. Deals, particularly involving the Rockets' hefty contracts, will be tough, but there will be talk." Who should the Rockets trade? I was hinting one of our unproductive forwards. I think this trade should provide us some rebounding and defense thru Donyell Marshall. He's also a good outside shooter. What do you think? Do we benefit from it?
Donyell was actually one of my prospects for the Rockets in the offseason. He looks like he could give us 15pts 10rebs which is pretty much what our PF's are averaging combined (as sad as that is), along with more blocks and steals, and low turnovers. He also shoots from 3 extremely well for his position. As long as we don't give him some ridiculous contract, then I'm loving it. He's only making 4.5 mil and his contract is up at the end of this season. We could go after him with our trade exception, but that leaves us with 3 PF's, and 5 if you count Padgett and Weatherspoon. Strangely enough, I just saw that Mobley is being shopped, and that Houston is interested. I have no idea why, considering we have T-Mac now. Maybe the plan would be to move T-Mac to point, Mobley to shooting guard, and leave Jimmy at small forward. Or perhaps, Mobley at point guard, Jimmy at the shooting guard, and T-Mac to the small forward. Neither of those sounds practical to me, although I do like this starting lineup: PG - Tracy McGrady SG - Cuttino Mobley SF - Jim Jackson PF - Donyell Marshall C - Yao Ming
mobley aint going anywhere...book it. marshalls an awesome player. look at his numbers last year...there's no reason why he cant be doin that this year, except for a guy named Bosh.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting 02civic:</div><div class="quote_post">mobley aint going anywhere...book it. </div> Not according to the Orlando Sentinel, and the owner Mr. Weisbrod himself. Probably not until after the season, but it's pretty much going to happen, from the looks of things.
Mobley or Donyell would improve us, either way. Sadly, I don't see neither of the trades to be working out. Mobley is putting up big numbers for the Magics right now, although he has been out alot from injuries. That's a huge set back for any team. He's so early in his career, and he already is pretty injury prone, so we must keep that in mind if we want to consider him coming back. Donyell Marshall would be a great addition to our team, but there's just no way of getting him. Who would, or could we trade? Howard, Taylor, Lue, Ward? Trash. Our powerforward's contracts are way too expensive for any team to want to pick up. Plus, the Raptors already have a great PG in Skip. Free Agency? Like Sniper said before, we would be overloaded with PF's, and our rotation would be basically screwed. Although, perhaps we can maybe trade Taylor or Howard for some scrub and draft picks?
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> that's ludacris he looks like a lizard..i'd rather keep our forwards </div> This is intelligent posting? He's still better then the power forwards you have right now, I would take him over Juwan or Maurice anyday. Those two have more muscle and power but Donyell has long range shooting as well as excellent rebounding skills. Only downfall is that he tends to fall in love with his outside shot, he's not shy of jacking up threes and he's a pretty good 3 point shooter for a big guy.
Well... since Raps are in rebuilding stage, you could give like 2 1st rounders and a crap player for Marshall... I'm sure the Raps would bite... the 2 1st rounders doesn't seem too out of hand, since the Rockets are aiming for a championship soon.
We haven't made a good draft pick in years, other than Yao. We gave a lot of picks away through various transactions over the past 5 or 6 years, but when we do have them, we seem to get trash. I say if they're just going to keep on picking players that never develop, throw those draft picks around and get a proven veteran such as Marshall. However, DO NOT PAY HIM LIKE ROYALTY AND DO NOT SIGN HIM UNTIL THE END OF FREAKING TIME!
I said at the beginning of the season that Donyell is a perfect fit for us and that it would be a possibility. No one believed me but here we are discussing the matter. Enough of "I told you so" and lets move on. I would give up Mo AND Juwon, and maybe also Lue just for Donyell. He would do much more for us than all 3 players combined.
You and me both. Actually as soon as the season was over last year, I jotted down some PF possibilities in one of my college notebooks, and Donyell was one of them. I was actually very surprised that day when I was writing down his stats. I didn't realize he was a 16 and 11 type of guy until that point, and that's where my interest in acquiring him really took off. I actually just pulled the notebook out and looked at the list and it's pretty funny. Dirk Nowitzki Lamar Odom Shareef Abdul-Rahim Keith Van Horn Donyell Marshall Stromile Swift Juwan Howard These were all considered possibilities BEFORE we dealt Steve, Cuttino, and Kelvin. I sure as hell wasn't planning on getting Dirk or Lamar with what we've got now (and without trading Yao or Tracy). Maybe I cursed us all with that Juwan premonition...
donyell would be good but there's no way we can get him without getting jalen rose too.. toronto wants to deal him and might take a couple of our big contract players, ie. weatherspoon in return, but rose makes 15 million this year and has a reputation of not being a "team player"
If we're getting Rose as well, forget it. His contract is hefty and lasts for a few years more. We'd be stuck with his contract if we get him. Marshall though would be a good choice, considering his ability to stretch defenses and giving Yao more space to work with in the post. Then again, forget him if we are to get Rose too.
Donyell would be good. He could help out with his shooting and his rebounding. He would be a good addition.
